[quote author="optimusprime" date=1225936319]The vitriol here is appalling. Good thing Prop 8 passed!

?Marriage between a man and a woman is vital to the stability and preservation of our society in which a father and a mother raise and nurture children.? - Rick Santorum

AMEN!!!

As a woman who got married with no intention of having children in that marriage, and also as a woman who someday will be no longer able to bear children, I find that offensive.

Amen, indeed.

So what's next for the religious nutters now that they can buy constitutional amendments with out of state money? Maybe they will go after atheists next?

Offended? I believe it applies in a general way to marriage between a man and a woman who have children.

If you had no intention to having children then it doesn't apply to you.

Seriously, take the the statement for what it is and not a derogatory statement towards you.

SoCal....you were asking for me...and I think you've missed me b/c I've changed my avatar. I am no longer pink handcuffs, I am now "2nd Class Citizen". Please make a note of it. Thank you for your kind words.

Ditto. One of the reasons it took me so long to meet my husband is that I had no intention of having children. And actually, my father had a lot to do with shaping my view of the world in my formative years. He was an absolute bigot and and the things he said started turning my stomach by the time I was 10 years old. I really didn't want a society like the one he believed in and I'm glad that we aren't preserving the society he believed in.

Gotti....sigh. As much as I appreciate your effort...pls look at the thing you posted and tell me what is wrong with it.

I am not a bible thumper. I laugh at people who think i am because i vote Yes on 8. So much for the open minded liberals.

BTW... interesting 2 gay men (couple) who are voting Yes on 8. They make a lot more sense then all of you "NO on 8" people throwing f-words at me.

Ah-ha! There you are. It's funny, my brain automatically scans for the pink cuffs instead of reading user-names like I should.

Step, I understand completely. I was raised by bigots and racists. I recall having a "special" tee shirt that I could only wear inside the house....and I recall feeling very privileged to do so. Want to know what it was ? A KKK tee shirt.

No kidding.

My father brought them home for my brother and I when I was about 7 years old. He also taught us how to do the, "Heil Hitler" salute. My brother had a huge Nazi flag up in his bedroom when I was in high school.

Perhaps this helps you understand why my parents kicked me out at 17, why we really don't see eye to eye to this day, and why my brother and I don't speak.

It's called learned intolerance.

Parents, don't let my situation repeat itself in your family. You will never be able to recover from it......take it from one who knows.

Gotti, you are truly the antithesis of an open-minded liberal. You have sorry basis, and no argument.

In trying to insult me as a douche bag for voting YES on 8..you use as image which uses a very degrading "Gayer" term.

The irony.

Optimus,

I am still waiting for to answer my question. Since you believe gays should get to have Civil Unions but not Marriage, what is the difference? I really hope you answer this.

As for the history of marriage, history is full of marriages between more than just one man and one woman. There were same-sex marriages in Greek and Roman days. Is that not going back far enough for you? How about all those guys in the Old Testament that had multiple wives? Are you in support of returning to tradition there? Should we also pass a law to stop people from picking their own spouses due to "love" and go back to arranged marriages designed for political and financial advancement?

Nothing, according to definition #3. Gobot also falls under the definition 3.

Sorry about your upbringing. It doesn't mean people who vote Yes on 8 are discriminating you. Maybe some want to uphold the true sense of marriage?

I'm just stating the facts Moses. I think you're doing a pretty good job of insulting yourself.
