Thanks everybody. I just got home from the protest in L.A. A rally that turned into an impromptu march. I'm sure many of you saw it on the news (I was the one holding the sign "WHEN CAN WE VOTE ON YOUR MARRIAGE?") The outrage was off the hook and I thought the organizers did a very good job and keeping everyone calm.
I would estimate the crowd to have been 10,000 at the start....not bad for an event that was thrown together at about 10:00 in the morning. Non-violent and no arrests I can proudly say. When they all decided to sit down in the middle of the intersection of Hollywood and Highland, facing a skirmish line of my fellow co-workers in riot gear....thats when I stopped participating. It was very odd for me to be marching past my own officers, holding that sign. I got the stink eye from a couple of them, but I'm glad I did it. Perhaps it made them think, "Hey, that's my Sergeant....wow....I guess my vote did affect someone I know." Perhaps it didn't matter to them...who knows.
The protest didn't end until 1:00 this morning.
Tomorrow we march on the Mormon Temple. Saturday we rally in Silverlake. And so on, and so on.
This fight is just beginning.
