Santiago Canyon Fire in Orange by Irvine Lake

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
EvaL, please keep me updated if you hear anything about Northpark. The OC Register site is worthless right now. I'm checking the OCFA website as well but no evacs in our area as of noon.

I suspect NP will be ok. I saw that the line jumped Portola, but could get no info as to where along Portola. Obviously, I'm less concerned if it was Portola and the 241 than if it were Portola and the 261. But without any info, I felt best about working from home.

In looking at the TV news, fire is close to homes in Foothill Ranch. Best to all there.

Google map of fire areas in SoCal. (Not useful for details on Irvine fire, but good if you want to know what fires are where generally in SoCal).

From the OC Register: "A voluntary evacuation has been called for residents on three streets in the Foothill Ranch area of Lake Forest: Alonda, Calle Cabrillo, Coca Street. El Toro High School is open for those who leave their homes; it’s at25255 Toledo Way."

Thanks EvaL. I was also concerned about where on Portola but couldn't find anything.

I'm still not worried physically but if there's a voluntary evac I want to get my pets, pictures, and documents out of there. I'm at work in Fullerton right now.

Hey all,

this is my first post. I've been a reader for a while, but I thought you all might like to know that Irvine Valley College just announced that it will close for the rest of today due to air quality. So if you or your kids have classes... they are cancelled.

there was a fire along the 261 at portola pkwy this morning, the FD had put it out by around 10:30 am.

they are continuing to keep that area wet so it doesnt flare up again.

way to close for comfort.

Thanks interloper. I am extra interested in any area where the fire jumps Portola or the 261.

Also, if you look up at the top of the hill next to the 261, the building with all the antennae is the County Emergency Management center - an extra reason to keep that hill from getting crispy.

Thats called Loma Ridge. Its built like a concrete bunker for just that reason. The Orange County Sheriff and the County are very protective of that facility. I do work for them on the computer systems that handle the 911 system once in awhile. It has no windows and is very secure. I am in Orange at work and it looks like everything is happening south over by Bake. Looks like Foothill Ranch and then Rancho SM will be the next targets if the wind does not back off. The OC Register Web site is a joke. You would think they could do a better job. Its just a pop-up and advertising POS.

Here is a good link for The Loma Ridge Facility http://ludb.clui.org/ex/i/CA3396/

I think IUSD should have closed the schools for a day or two due to air quality .It is smoky plus kids are more sensitive. They can be indoors but spend considerable time going to and coming back from school.
