Boeing blinks; promises Trump lower cost for Air Force One

WASHINGTON ? After meeting with Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg on Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump said he persuaded the Chicago company to cut the price tag for the pending Air Force One order by ?a tremendous amount.?

On Dec. 6, Trump threatened to cancel or renegotiate Boeing?s Air Force One deal and accused Boeing, with no evidence, of ?doing a little bit of a number? over costs.

?Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!? Trump said on Twitter.

According to the General Accounting Office, delivery for two new presidential planes is planned for fiscal year 2024. In a March report, the GAO pegged research, development and actual procurement for the aircraft at about $3.5 billion. Any plane a president is on is called Air Force One.

Trump and Muilenburg met at the president-elect?s Mar-A-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. After the afternoon discussion, Trump talked briefly with reporters and was asked if the Boeing CEO meeting ?produced positive results.?

I just thought this observation was funny

I just think that the left is deluding itself when it tells normal people that they were somehow suckered by the Russians? truthful revelations of true stuff that showed the true depth of Democratic corruption. ?You flyover rubes are so stupid that you can be manipulated by the facts that we were too incompetent to effectively hide from you!? is probably not a great way to win hearts and minds, but hey progs, feel free to go with it.

How do Trump supporters view his behavior regarding the issue of Russia hacking us? He seems to be in a very small minority here.http://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...ees-hard-time-for-trump-picks-rejecting-intel

I'm not Trump supporter but here's how I view it.  Russian meddling in the election, bad.

End of statement on that

Now let's talk about the sausage making that the meddling exposed, and Imho, we can assume both major parties are operating the same way and that again, IMHO, is far more problematic for our country than the Russian meddling.

Stanley Black & Decker to open U.S. plant after Trump's 'border tax' threat

Stanley Black & Decker said Thursday that it would open a new $35 million manufacturing plant in the U.S. after acquiring the Craftsman tool brand from ailing retailer Sears Holdings.

Expanding American manufacturing makes "business sense" amid "pervasive" uncertainty regarding the future of U.S. trade with China and Mexico, Stanley Black & Decker CEO James Loree told investors Thursday in a conference call.

About a half century ago, the Craftsman brand was primarily made in America. Today it's largely made overseas, Loree said.

"We believe this is an excellent opportunity to re-Americanize and revitalize this legendary brand," he told investors.

Macy's to close 68 stores and layoff 10,000. MAGA!

He's not even President and you are blaming him.

I think or I want to say I know more people are buying online than at malls.

So it's ok when he takes credit for the Softbank announcement but not the Macy's disaster. Got it.

I'm interested to know if they plan to make Craftsman hand tools in the US again?

For now if you want made in US quality, you have to pay SK Tools price on Amazon.

I couldn't afford Snap-On tools back in HS/College so bought craftsman tools from Sears for home & autoshop.  They were of good quality back then and, when I worked at computer shop assembling PC's, my coworkers stole them.  ;p

Sears had a pretty sweet warranty for Craftsman tools. That's probably gone now. :(

I wouldn't bet on it.  That warranty is a large reason the brand accrued the value it did over decades.  Made in USA is the other reason.  Unlike shitforbrains Lampert, I'm pretty sure SBD knows that.  They are taking a huge risk I think, but it is  a long term investment.  It only pays off if customers are happy and repeat.  I think they will do their best to position the brand back to its roots; affordable domestic quality.

I started stocking up on USA Craftsman tool sets years ago when I caught wind of the offshoring.  I'll always treasure them, but Sears can go to hell AFAIC.

I hope they do what you say.

Craftsman has been going down the drain yoy. But I still stick with them. The warranty is the best.
