I think the biggest fear on the left is that Trump could be wildly successful....

Trump says SoftBank will invest $50 billion in the US, aiming to create 50,000 jobs

Donald Trump said on Monday that Japan's SoftBank agreed to invest $50 billion in the U.S., aiming to create 50,000 jobs.

He announced the deal after meeting with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/12/06/trump-says-softbank-will-invest-50-billion-in-the-us-aiming-to-create-50000-jobs.html

Just saw it on TV.

This is insane. But the different kind of insanity that the left is preaching.

50,000 jobs!! Obama is still the President. INSANE.

The left is trying everything to spin everything Trump did into doomsday tactic.

LOL. Americans rejected the Obama 3rd term. I guess you and Obama can pop a champagne to celebrate jobs at minimum wage.

;D ;D ;D ;D Your ignorance on the subject is astounding but amusing nonetheless. Almost half of those jobs had incomes > $58k.

We do - it's astronomically more accurate compared to what can be put in 140 characters.

I would love to see data more accurate than astronomical science.

American Airlines still exists, United Airlines still exists, US Steel still exists albeit in better forms, that is what capitalism does, shapes efficient use of capital. It would have done the same in the auto industry. Cash for clunkers and the GM stock bailout just transferred tax dollars into union coffers. That GM stock the government bought went to $0.  The new issue stock, which the union and pension fund still own 60% of today is $35 a share...we got hosed.

Yeah, I think neither the GM deal nor the Carrier deal should have been done. But it is also easy to forget how scary the economy was back when the GM deal was done.

Sure, Pence was the carrot but Trump was the stick...got er done.

What stick was that? They are still moving 1300 jobs out of the USA. Wow, he really showed them!

Its probably less but if tax relief was the carrot then the threat of tariffs was the stick...again just a threat not actual action saved those remaining jobs...that is good negotiation and a win.

Carrier still may move 500 jobs to Mexico after Trump deal

Again the GM deal lost $11.2 billion in real tax dollars spent...the Carrier deal means the government collects a little less money that it cant blow (tax relief). There is a huge difference

I'm still not sure what Trump had to do with the Carrier deal. The tax break comes from Indiana, not from the federal government. In general, I don't like state or federal governments giving money to a specific company. There is too much chance for corruption and unfairness. There are reasons our economic priorities come through laws, policies, and programs that apply more broadly. If I was a competitor of Carrier, I would be pissed. Also, Carrier is part of United Technologies Corp. UTC had a profit last year of over $7 billion. The year before that it was over $9 billion. It's previous CEO got $172 million when he retired after just 6 years a couple years ago. And $7 million made them keep 800 jobs in the USA? Seems like they could have done that if they had really wanted to, without the $7 million from Indiana tax-payers.

I don't see the difference that you see. A tax break isn't really different than a tax refund if it results in the same net dollars going to the company.

The GM bailout saved 1.2 million jobs and preserved $34.9 billion in tax revenue.

The 550 are just from one plant in Indianapolis and an additional 700 from the Huntington location that were slated to be gone. Despite whatever carrots and sticks may have been used Carrier is moving 1250 jobs to Mexico.

Ford cost the taxpayers nothing, and last I checked they are still in business.  Chrysler and GM bailouts were money down the rabbit hole just like the shovel ready jobs of the failed stimulus bill...government intervention and waste at its most profound level.

LOL. Ford got around$5bn line of credit from the DOE during that time. Yes, they did not take advantage of TARP but did dip their hands in the honeypot as well.

Line of credit (paid back) is very different from direct investment and loans that went to $0. Total, hard dollars the taxpayer LOST on GM and Chrysler is around $13-$14 BILLION.  That is government wasting money it collected from taxpayers (us). Tax relief just means the government never gets its mits on it to begin with (Carrier).
