So I just saw that they put a communal mailbox up for the 1st phase of homes. I didn't realize that each house would not get their own mailbox. There is one communal box at the beginning of the street for 16 homes.

This obviously sucks for the person's home behind it. They will get more foot traffic and the mailbox is just an eyesore from outside.

I see how the box is more efficient for them but really? These homes don't come with their own mailboxes? Why couldn't they place it somewhere less visible. What is up with that?

That must really suck for the Mulberry homeowner that gets stuck with that giant box in front of his home.

But I do think clustered boxes are better as there's more security since it's locked.

Magnolia has the same thing, but it's placed in front of a wall so it looks better and not obtrusive.

Having it on the wall like that seems more thoughtful then just placing it in front of someone's house. These damn home builders cut corners to make money wherever they can.

Heh... the other advantage of older homes... your own mailbox.

Even with some older homes, it's a "cluster".  Just a smaller "cluster".  My in laws in south county have a 4-some (yes qwerter, a 4 some).  Not locked.  They still need to walk down to it.

Unlocked clusters look kinda ridiculous.

Most people, but I know my next door neighbor (we have two boxes together) regularly has outgoing mail and the two right across the street as well......... four out of four but I'm positive no one has as much outgoing mail as I do.

For me, it's not as much about having a cluster box as being able to get my mail to the mail man without excessive humidity or even light showers.

Exactly how thick can the mailpiece be to fit in the outgoing box?

I might schedule a priority mail item to be picked up rather than bring it to the post office or put it in the box so the mailman can ring my bell to get it along with all my other mail.

bones is a quick learner, i dont even have to think anymore!

No, I'd like a box that I can SEE the mailman at so I can run my mail out to him when he comes to my street.

In case you didn't know, the post office ADVERTISES you can schedule a pick up for ANY mail that includes at least one item that uses expediated services including priority mail and you can ask them to ring your bell (unless you want to just leave your package in the open and in that case what is the point of locked boxes?
https://tools.usps.com/go/ScheduleAPickupAction!input.action.

Or I could order one priority mail item that is brought to my door per day if I get really upset about it.

For someone who mails out at least 50 first class letters (NOT BULK MAIL) plus priority packages and first class packages, I think I should have the option to run my mail to the post man when he drives by, but hey, maybe that's just me. For most people, they don't care if they ever get mail again.......... not mail from me........ they like getting mail from me........ they pay me for it.

Btw............ just because YOU don't use the mail and the post man has to run by your house for nothing, doesn't mean they don't have things from other people who DO pay and support people who do not pay a thing cuz they email and pay bills on line, not that would be you. I'm sure YOU spend a lot to support the post office, right?

Agree with you on the poor placement of the mail boxes.  According to the lot map they gave me back in May, I suppose to have a mail box in front of my home too (a mail box in front of every 2 homes.  Located in the lawn area at the border of two homes.)

I wonder if there's any disclosure about the mail boxes for that particular home.

I would say I'm above average postal customer. I still mail some bills through usps. I even pay the $1 for them to mail me my stamps so I can save a trip to the post office or wait in line elsewhere. I also get amazon packages a few times a week. Sometimes they use usps to deliver it. I'm ok with the cluster system for my postal needs.

So you think because I would like a cluster box I can SEE, I'm being unreasonable? In that case, hopefully someone like you who mails out their bills doesn't share my cluster box when I fill it up.

I hardly think the post office is going under because I would like to SEE my cluster box so I can give the mailman my mail.

So, I've never had a cluster box. How does it work when I receive packages? How many people can get packages in the same day? What if someone doesn't pick up their package and someone else gets packages the next day? What if the package is too big to fit in the box?

The post office isn't losing money. It's an accounting issue that has to do with their pension funding.

And yeah, I subsidize a lot of other people.

Then no problem.

To get the postman to come to my house, I mail myself a box that is too big to fit in the box.

Nice to know.

Thanks.

Just find out that the current mailboxes location are only temporary.  The Mulberry still will have mail box clusters but it will be located at the end of the street, on the side wall, not in front of any one's home.  The mail boxes will move to its permanent location once the construction on rest of the street is done and the street is open.
