Voting is so ridiculously easy to do, even with these changes.

This sounds like the beautiful high school cheerleader who thinks "geez, everyone is so nice to me all the time .  what a great world we live in "

Put your self in the shoes of people struggling to make ends meet or working multiple jobs and what they are giving up (by waiting upto 10 hours in many cases) to just to be able to cast their vote.

Many countries hold their elections over multiple days , on weekends , and make registrations super easy. Not what we here.  Every step taken by the GOP has been to make voting more and more and more difficult.

Agreed.  I make it a point to vote and even I barely got in before the 8 p.m. deadline and ended up in the wrong voting location.

That's not to mention all the areas where IDs are now required...also ignoring gerrymeandering.

In OC you can register online very easily, and the voting hours are quite reasonable (Wait times as well). Also very easy to get an absentee ballot.

Where are these wait times and poor hours occurring? That should definitely be addressed.

i'm all for anyone coming for this country as long as they do so legally.  i think that's the position of most people on the right.  what is the other option?  open borders for all?  open borders for whoever can sneak/get smuggled through?  open borders for some but not all?

the left would have to make major concessions for immigration reform like that or the welfare system we live in will fail (spoiler: it's already failing).  so goodbye birthright citizenship, goodbye social security, goodbye medicare/medicaid etc.

How'd you get the location wrong? Did they switch it last minute or something?

What's wrong with checking ID? Seems like that would help prevent voter fraud if anything.

On a tangent we really could use a cryptographically secure national ID. Using SSN's in place of that as a 'eff it it works' stopgap has been a total shitshow.

exactly.  i haven't been to a voting location in years.  i mail in my absentee ballot 2-3 weeks before the election without even leaving my own home.  if you're waiting 10 hours in line to vote you're doing it wrong.

didn't you know, the poor people who use their ID to drive, apply for foodstamps, buy cigarettes and alcohol can't get an ID to show at the polling location?

Exactly, need a shared understanding of the role of borders and nation states before being able to reasonably address immigration. Dismissing entire paradigms of international relations out of hand won't get us there.

In my opinion, ultimately we should to move to open borders. We aren't nearly ready for that, however. It's intractable for many reasons inlcuding those mentioned in your post. Several more years of exponential economic and technological growth however, and it could end up not being difficult at all.

Because I live in Stonegate and my polling place was in Portola Springs.  I went to Stonegate Elementary to vote...but learned that my polling place was at PS Elementary.

Voter fraud doesn't exist on a realistically level...the need for an ID seeks to solve a non-existent problem and hinders voting.

I work every election as a volunteer for the Registrar.  Few know the ballet that goes on every election and the stunning scope and complexity of the bureaucracy that counts every vote.  It is really amazing and I suggest you volunteer some time to find out.  I assure you extreme precaution is taken to make sure every voter has the opportunity and every vote is counted.  I have never understood the argument against showing ID.  If anything that is the weak point for voter fraud to take place and the arguments against it are tepid at best.

Because I live in the real world and in a country where people of power have placed hurdles and roadblocks to prevent people from voting.  Voter ID seeks to resolve a problem that does not exist while creating extra hurdles/burdens for people to exercise one of the most fundamental rights one has as a citizen.

Interesting article.

I think the bigger issue there is that getting an ID is a burden for some folks. If someone really can't spare 25 bucks to get an ID, they need to be helped out.

That needs to be improved. I see no fundamental issue with requiring an ID at the polls, though do recognize that the underlying motivations for doing so are not pure.

It's a problem that doesn't exist...why look for a solution?  Especially one that is going to prevent people from voting.

It's not just a burden...it's an unnecessary hurdle.  If I decided that I wanted to vote today...an expired driver's license shouldn't stop me.  What if the election rolls have my name wrong or my ID doesn't match the rolls?  There are a million what-ifs that don't need to exist just to prevent a hypothetical problem.

Again, we here live in a world of privilege and plenty .  It is truly difficult for us to fathom the difficulties poor and disabled people go through

after all it is their fault for being poor (and lazy) in this land of opportunity - look how conveniently someone brought up food stamps , cigarettes and alcohol ...

It?s all too easy. This guy told a poll worker he was Eric Holder and the guy was willing to give him the then atttorney generals ballot.  I tried this at my polling place bc I knew my neighbors name and address, guy said ?no problem. ? Easy to stuff a ballot box with readily available lists of names and addresses.

Voter ID activist posing as Eric Holder OK'd at D.C. primary polls

A man from James O?Keefe?s organization, Project Veritas, entered a precinct in the Spring Valley neighborhood of Northwest on Tuesday and suggests to a poll worker that he was ?Eric Holder,?

In Mr. O?Keefe?s video, the ?voter? tells the pollworker he forgot his ID.

?You don?t need it, it?s all right,? the pollworker replies.

?As long as you?re in here you?re on our list ? and that?s who you say you are, you?re OK,? he adds.

"The difficulties poor and  disabled people go through..."

Like the California residents who cash their food cards on Caribbean cruises? Like them? Hundreds of them. Or the hundreds who cash  their food cards in Hawaii?
Rough life for them, huh.  Welfare fraud is a growing business, or at least it was under Obama.  Maybe now, not so much.
