Triple double tonight but still finding that three ball.

I do get excited watching him run the offense. Hope he can be agressive on offense too. Needs to develop a floater.

Yep, a floater would compliment Ball's game very well. That was an impressive showing last night. What's most pleasing, and promising, is Ball is such an extremely effective passer, that defenders are too hesitant to pick Ball up for fear their man will just receive a pass and score easily. It makes Ball's lane probing much more effective. On his 11th point, the sea parted on the fast break giving Ball a wide open throw-down.

One game is a worthless sample size from which to judge Ball's value. However, this game did demonstrate some my concerns about Ball. He likes jackin' 3s from well beyond the arc, and in the halfcourt offense he can seem way too passive - almost like he's unsure of what he should be doing.

I preferred Fox to Ball, and while Fox missed the three 3s he took, consistent with the only concern about Fox, everything else about his game was awesome last night: 18 pts, 3 rebs, 4 asts, 5 stls, 1 blk, all in 27 minutes. Fox will be awesome, even if he only shoots 25% from three.

Not to poke Laker fans in the eye twice, but Josh Jackson had a great game too. This draft continues to look like a generational draft, like the 2003 LeBron draft. I'm just hoping we're not the team who selected Darko second in that draft.  :-X

Tonight would have been a good match up Ball vs Fox. Ball will sit out tonight due to injury.

Ball will get hammered for sitting out.  It's a shame.  I was looking forward to seeing the matchup, even though I think Fox would've owned him.  He's just too quick.

Dennis Smith Jr. drafted by Dallas looks good too.

I think Dennis Smith Jr is the steal of the draft so far

He's the one we're going to regret in a few years down the line...his change of speed and finishing ability (first step) is elite.  He looks better than Fultz and Fox so far IMO, we'll see if he can do this against nba competition.  Tatum has some of the most advanced offensive moves I've seen in a long time (he's got that dirk 1 leg fadeaway down) but can he expand his explosiveness/vision/3 point shot is the big question.

Lakers related: I think Kuzma looks good! makes randle expendable.  Thomas Bryant showed nice hustle and decent touch...can he expand his range?  Didnt' see enough of Hart but he'll be fine I think as well.  Zubac is a bit concerning as he looks slow out there still, maybe he needs to lose weight... Lonzo needs to work with his shooting coach to make sure his feet are set when he's pulling...seems he's going for that chest flick like curry for a quick release, but his feet don't seem set to make that shot consistent.  I think his shot will be fine come October.  Sad we didn't see rematch of Ball vs Fox tonight

It's concerning to me that only 2 games into Summer League that Ball is hurt.

What is up with today's youth? When I was that age I would play at least 5 times a week outdoors a few hours a day and not get hurt.

Weak.

They are extra cautious.. he's just sore and they wont take any chances.

Fultz injured, Ingram injured, and Fox possibly injured.

Young guys aren't as sturdy as they used to be.

Fultz had a real injury.  Ingram was ready to come back in the game.  Ball would have played today in a regular season game.

Old School dudes, (Byron Scott!) would expect you to play through every injury. If you can stand, you should be playing. Damn the consequences following this game to your long term health.

Who is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope?

(Lakers signed him to a 1 year $18 mil contract)

I see him as an average starter. Can play decent defense.

KCP is a decent 2-guard, a bit injury prone but can score.

This was actually a good signing compared to Deng/Mozgov... only a 1-year rental so they have cap space for the 2018 Superstar Lottery.

So what happens to Clarkson?

I think Clarkson is a great fit for a 6th man and will get plenty of playing time.

He was the 8th pick in a horrific 2013 draft, not that this means anything. He shot 35% from 3 last season, which isn't great, but not too bad. He'll probably be more of an Eddie Jones type, playing great defense, shooting the 3 respectably, and running the wing on Ball fastbreaks.

He only received the minimum qualifying offer from his team (Pistons). Granted, that's all they needed to offer in order to retain the right to match any offer he received elsewhere. But if they loved him, and wanted to please him, they could've offered him a bigger contract than just the minimum.

It's a good gamble. If he's good this season, the Lakers can still sign two max free agents next July, and resign Pope afterward going beyond the cap (like the Warriors are doing with vets on roster).

These large expiring contracts are valuable at the trade deadline too, to facilitate trades for highly-paid stars on the move. e.g. We might be able to unload Pope for PG13 at the deadline.

Seems like Laker management was concerned pushing Clarkson into a starting role. I think they like him as a 6th man gunner off the bench.
