Just got back from the boba. Not quite sure what happened. Went to a pho place with an all Mexican staff. I stared at the menu for five minutes and then asked the guy what the difference is between this boba drink and that one. He said they're the same. His answer to every flavor was that they're all the same. I asked for a regular milk tea boba. Gave me my drink. It tasted like iced coffee. The boba was also black. I thought boba was a different color. Went next door to a Korean place where I realized they also sell boba. I told her I had a Mexican boba that tasted like coffee. She looked at my drink and said it's definitely not tea because it's not even the right color. She begged me to let her fix it for me. She poured golden tea into it. So I ended up with some kind of VietMex Korean coffee tea black ball boba drink. All I really wanted was a regular, real boba drink like the originals? It was just alright. The drink part was okay. The boba didn't even taste like tapioca or anything. Totally flavorless and almost choked me a couple times when I drank it without looking. I drank the drink and threw the rest away.

Sounds like you had a Latino boba.

What's funny is, when he said "they're all the same", I thought we were having a language barrier problem. But now that I confirmed it's the wrong color and tastes like coffee, I think he really meant it when he said they are all the same! They probably only have one kind and just market it as ten different flavors.  :P

For qwerty:

Do you guys eat when you're grieving? I don't. I'll go a couple days without eating when I'm really gutted over something. Right now, I'm covered in flour. I cleared my schedule and have been working in the kitchen since 9 a.m., cooking a baking a huge meal and dessert for 6 adults. It's for the family of the girl who was killed in the accident mentioned in the O.C.R. I kind of think this is all going to end up in the trash. I've been asking myself, "WHO is really going to eat it??" It's one thing if there are small children in the house, depending on you to feed them. But that's not the case here. Two years ago, the husband told me this one dish I made (not realizing it was me who made it) was "amazing" and "a life saver". (I literally memorize every comment someone makes about my cooking.) I am making that with the hopes it will not go to waste. But I'm okay if it does. It's more of a gesture of support than anything else. I just don't think I would want daily deliveries of dinners if it was me who lost a child.  :-\

Nice gesture cooking for them but why dessert?

The sign-ups offered a tip to bring something they can munch on at other times of the day such as breakfast or a snack. So, I made oatmeal cookies.

I can happily report to TI this place is ready for primetime (unlike EMC Seafood). They were moderately busy for a weekday morning. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. You line up to order and they give you a number to place on your table. Waitresses were friendly and came by frequently for coffee refills. I tried the pancakes (tasty, not too light, and some chewiness which I enjoy), Portuguese sausage (nice and spicy like you would get in Hawaii), and fried rice (goes well with the spicy sausage). I would definitely come back and can foresee long lines on the weekends. The nice thing is you can do takeout and still find additional seating by Starbucks or Burnzilla in the morning.

+1

Finally tried it over the weekend and just love this place.  That coconut syrup and that Captain Crunch macadamia nut french toast is just crazy.

Had it too this weekend
Will report it is worth the wait! Went on July 4th, wait was around 30 mins to take order, but around 5 mins for food to arrive

It's awesome! Highly recommend Kahlua pork eggs benedict as well as the loco moco with fried rice (I chose spam as meat) as well as the French toast.  Pancakes are fluffy too

Go try it folks

I was there around 7:15 and there's no waiting but it's about 75% full already.

Tried to go last Sunday at around 8:30a, line was out the door and not even moving. Went to Knowlwood's instead.

I guess you have to get there really early.

Yeah, I drove by a couple of times, and there was at least 20 people in line outside the door each time I drove by.

Tonight for dinner, I made a homemade copycat version of Taco Bell's "Crunchwrap Supreme". It's very close but better. Much fresher and better quality... let's put it that way. Anyway, I instantly thought of Qwerty and decided I'm just gonna leave this right here:
http://life-in-the-lofthouse.com/taco-bell-crunchwrap-supreme-copycat/

The only thing I changed was that, instead of a nonstick pan, I toasted them in a Lodge cast iron skillet. Oh. And I also served them with a bottle of Cholula. Use a flat iron, if you have one. It comes out perfect that way. And don't worry. They actually do hold together extremely well.

(Not my pic but they look exactly alike.)
