To me it appears that people who over pay in Irvine always try to convince other people that irvine is the best and to be honest it is not the best city to live in.
Heh... Irvine *IS* the best city to live in. :)

And yes... it is also overpriced... but isn't that why people pay more for stuff they think is the best? I think MBZs, BMWs and most luxury vehicles are overpriced but I don't see people having to explain why they buy them over cars that do the same thing for less.

I'm actually ashamed of what we've paid for homes in Irvine... don't even want to tell my relatives/friends because they'll think I'm crazy.

I've got some "Chocolate Diamonds" for sale. Only $12k for a "premium" industrial grade diamond. Act now!

"Brown diamonds, the least valuable of the diamond family, are so common they were once only used for industrial purposes, attached to blades on cutting machines. But now an increasing number of jewelers are being criticized for ?pulling the wool over women?s eyes?, by charging the same price for them as their rarer white diamond counterparts thanks to some clever marketing techniques. Instead of 'brown', the gemstones are referred to as 'chocolate', 'champagne', 'cognac' or 'caramel'-colored by outlets, instantly giving them more of a luxury appeal."

I would never buy in Irvine for various reasons. Property values will go up in all locations. To me it appears that people who over pay in Irvine always try to convince other people that irvine is the best and to be honest it is not the best city to live in. I would rather Live in Newport Coast over spending = money in Irvine. I Know a lot of people who cant wait to get out of Irvine along with people who specifically choose to live in other cities.

Is it not the best city to live in because
a) too expensive to find the kind of house you want
b) too many Asians
c) don't like the city itself (i.e., city planning, the location, the amenities, recreation, safety, etc.)

I know people who don't want to be in Irvine also, but usually not because of c)

Everyone i know can afford 1million + homes and all gave the same answers B
That's known as The Homie Principle. You must know him. :)

Yes the schools are major attraction. I understand by sending kids to top schools doesnt guarantee they will be in Ivy leagues or highly paid professions etc but this environment makes kids more aware and prepared of real world challenges and competition.
Also I would rather have my kids feel the pressure of tough competitive environment and try  to excel amongst the best than being best in a mediocre average school environment.

The biggest fish in a small pond is still a big fish. I would rather have my child attend a mediocre school and score in honers and AP classes than be average in another district. AP class count the same no matter what district the kids attend. Also the public HS you attend has no affect on the school you get into, that only applies to private schools.

PURE GOLD!

Hmmm Eric must be a foreigner!

He is not a foreigner, he just doesn't own an electric car :-)

I don't think people pick irvine just for the school,  I think school is just one of many other reason they decided to live in Irvine.

If the school is the only reason, then they would move to Cerritos for Whittney high or Cypress for Oxford Academy, both school rank a lot higher than any of Irvine's high schools.  But Cerritos and Cypress is not Irvine and there must be other factors other than just IUSD for picking Irvine.

Where were all you Irvine-lovers when I was battling all the Irvine-haters back on the IHB?

Harumph.

I was lurking in the background and enjoy a good fight.  IHO is quite a good fighter, put out a really good show. :)

irvine is a great place to live, hard to argue with that. i really like the open spaces, very well planned, perfectly manicured, three lanes for each major street in each direction, tons of jobs within a 15-30 minute commute, a shopping center in every village, etc.

The diversity of this board has shrunk significantly after the IHB forums closed. All the Irvine haters moved on to the defunct OC Reader.

He took his ball back to Floral Park and never came back. Though I suspect his spirit lives on in TI.

I love bkshopr. #1 Speaker of Truths. His knowledge and professional expertise helped even the creator of TI see the light. For that, I owe him and will always be thankful to have met him. We are all truly better off for having known him. The man knows his stuff. He enriched our forum. There is only 1 person on TI who is similar to bkshopr... what's his name... something-shopper.

The haters went to OC Reader and the Irvine circle jerkers created this forum.
