Bike Trails

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

I went for a quick ride on Friday morning before work and still had the Cam mounted on the Bars after the Tour de Palm Springs Century...

Anyway, this is going down the San Diego River Trail to the Backbay in NB....

That's the exact same route that I take my kids to ride our bicycles, from UCI to the bridge in Jamboree, once that we go under the bridge and enter Back Bay (yes, nice surprise) we stop and watch all kind of birds living there, very entertaining. I "discovered" this specific segment using Google maps, backtracing from the birds watching spot.

The only "logistics" problem that I have is after I park my minivan in the UCI parking structure and before I arrive to the bike path, my wife and myself need to find a way to pull up my kids and their bycicles and cross the street. I haven't found parking close to the bike route and at the same not that far away from the birds, 1 mile max.

Thanks, Peter. I felt like I had my exercise today without getting off my butt!

Hubby and I are planning to hike the Holy Jim Falls trail this afternoon. I'v been meaning to do this hike for over a year now.

http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/HolyJimFalls_4472.asp

CalGal - last I heard, you have to request special permission to hike the HolyJim trail because of the fires...you might want to check before you head out there.

I just got back from Peter's Cyn. I went alone but it was not dangerous - there were so many people on the trail I felt like I was at Disney!

xsocal, I use the Flip Ultra (60 mins) http://theflip.com/ which I got for my Barfday. I wanted it specificaly for the Bike, it's very shaky the way it's mounted right now but the Cam itself is so simple to use plus the Software is always in the Cam so all you have to do is flip the USB thingy from the side of the Camera and plug it into the Computer...

Youtube only allows 10 minute clips...

Oh, and btw, the Cam operates off 2 x AA Batteries and they last 2.5 hrs.

The Ultra is a little more spendy but much better than the others if you read the specs...

It's a great, cheap, easy to use Cam, highly recommended!

Size wise it's only a little bit bigger than my Blackberry Pearl so it easily fits into your Pocket...

Rocker, a great place to ride with the Kids would be on the Backbay itself...

If you Drive:

Jamboree (towards NB)

Right on San Joaquin Hills Rd

Right on Back Bay Drive (One way street)

Then on the LHS you'll see a parking lot.

Otherwise I've seen plenty of Cars parked on University on the trail side of the road, I don't know if it's legal though.

ISM, we've ridden from here (Westpark) to my (Peter's) Canyon a few times but on Road Bikes, I've never ridden the Trail on a MTB, how is it?

Peter

I gave an ATC 2000 to a friend for Christmas. He seems to like it but it also is a little shakey on playback. I am thinking of a cam for my off road vehicle which has the added vibration of the motor.

Thanks for the input.

Regards

ISM - I want to respond to your comment, but I don't want to hijack this thread. I'll comment on the hiking thread:

xsocal, I'm going to design and make a different mount for my Bike this week so I'll post the results...

My Bike has Flat topped Carbon Fiber Handlebars which came with a Part that connects to them to mount Computers etc which have a round mounting profile, it's good for Computers but for the Cam, because it's made of a springy Resin Material it makes the Cam vibrate more than what the Bike does...

I want to make my Flip Cam work better because it's so light and easy to operate and control the Bike at the same time...

Where/how are you going to mount your Cam on the Vehicle?

Rocker, here's a Video from Today's ride starting at the Parking spot I was talking about...I didn't start the ride there I just stopped there for a break...

I ended up chasing a Miata..boy, those things are Fast

Peter

This is the cam. It is a helmet cam.

It has a mount for the handlebars but my vehicle has 1.3/4" roll cage that I would mount cam at eye level onto. I may put some insulation between mount and cage to reduce vibration.

Thanks
