Bike Trails

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I used to ride that trail (picking it up from Bryan Ave) every Sunday. Oh New Years resolution, why have you deserted me? I'm trying to use that Britney Spears VMA performance as motivation to clean up my act and get into shape.

I'd like to join you guys. Were you thinking Saturday or Sunday? Morning or Afternoon? Count me in if it's Sunday early morning.

On a (somewhat) related note, does anyone know of a good Pilates place near Woodbury (near Irvine Blvd x Jeffrey or Sandcanyon).

Sounds very cool! I've always been curious about the Mountains to the Sea signs :)

Is the whole path paved? Will both mountain bikes and road bikes be ok?

I'm with hopia on the timing

In my view, rides of this nature should always be a "Nobody dropped ride", I'm always willing to hang out with the last group or person on the ride so everyone has fun and rides safely. So whatever your ability or type of Bike I would encourage you to join.....Cycling is all about Fun, exercise, fresh air and taking in the views. I do enough rides where I'm pounding on the Pedals at max HR trying to stay with the Peloton Thankyouverymuch ;-) By the way, I also think Helmets should be mandatory on this kind of ride too...but that's just me.

FYI, this ride from north to south is a gradual downhill and then flat, so it's pretty easy to accomplish. I think there might be one climb near Chapman?

I prefer Sundays afternoons, and would be happy to meet up with other IHB riders at Bill Barber Memorial park off Barranca/Harvard. This park is 'sort of' in the middle of Irvine, and a good place for everyone to meet up. Also, there is a roundabout w/ bike racks and a drinking fountain there, in case any of the slower ride want to replenish before continue on. Zovall, the entire trail is paved as I see many mountain bikers riding the trail. However, when you come back from PCH/Back Bay, you are going to wish you have a road bike, as you climb the entrance/hill back up to Newport Promontory point. :)

I don't know, I forgot all about it to be honest....I guess we need to come up with a Day and time, or did we already do that?

Be carefull out there everyone!!

Sandy Nelson Julienne of Huntington Beach had been on a bicycle riding northbound on Culver Drive near University Drive at 10:04 a.m. when he was hit by a semi hauling construction debris, said Lt. Rick Handfield of the Irvine Police Department.

As the driver of the large truck passed Julienne in the bike lane, the wheels of the second trailer apparently hit the bicyclist, Handfield said.

Julienne died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was interviewed by detectives and later released, he said.

Anyone with information about the collision can call Detective Johnathan Cherney at (949) 724-7024.

eff, the meanest Climb? Well, it depends on why you are climbing, if you just want to climb to get better at it then I'd suggest riding down the San Diego River trail, onto the Backbay (Off east Bluff) then a couple of miles down turn left on San Joaquin and climb that, it's short and a good starter (I don't know your fitness level)....you then do a U-Turn at the top....I use this for repeats...

The longest and highest climb I've ever done personally is Mt Haleakala in Maui, 10,022ft. It's only an average of 6% but 35 miles....

PeterUK,

So the truck driver was not held at fault? I ride Irvine Center Drive between Harvard and Red Hill every morning on my way to work and trucks are constantly passing me by.

peter, u rode Haleakala? man, that's nuts... *major props* i thought i was crazy in riding laguna canyon every weekend... my time is now down to 30 each way (on the 133)...

Re: the accident: I was talking to a Guy who's friend was riding with his group, he (the Rider) was on the outside of the Bike lane, the truck was around 8" INTO the Bike lane, it's not clear whether the Truck connected with the rider before he fell but he did fall and went under the rear Wheels. There's a memorial ride on sunday but unfortunately I'll be in Vegas.

vicstah, the actual Haleakala climb wasn't bad, just tedious, the problem is, I started around 15 miles away from the climb on Haleakala Hwy and fought a fierce headwind all the way...then, 30 seconds after reaching the summit a huge cloud came in and it started pouring with rain and as you probably know it never gets about the 30's up there....I'm gonna do it again in march...I'm impressed with your 133 time...way to go!!

Hokay, did the Santiago Canyon Loop on Saturday afternoon. I had no good reason to fear this ride. I paced myself as if I were doing a century and I finished strong. Took all damn afternoon but that's fine by me.

I took a side trip to Tucker, went over Modjeska Grade, then another side trip to Performance for a new helmet. 42 miles in all.
