CZ, on second note, I really think you will NOT like North Tustin...  I don't want the place to burn down.

Sorry to hear about the burn SoCal. Must have been a water pocket under the chicken skin.

Kitchen notice board says "accident free for 29 days". I think I earned my place North of Jamboree!
The property I had my eyes on went into escrow. It was listed at 989, pending million plus. I don't think this is my kind of market. Anyway, there is always IHO for company..

I totally agree.

Especially for anybody who is stuck. If you're in a car on a road trip and can't find your destination, the first thing to do is find out where you are. Counting calories helps you pin-point that.

Why's this here you may ask?  James Gandolfini was 51.  Preliminary cause of death is heart attack or stroke.

James and I have a lot in common.  Hairline, build, height, weight, age, and even similar facial features.  If you stuck him in an extended family portrait on my fathers side, you'd have a hard time picking him out.

51...  my son wouldn't even be ten.

i hear stories like this and i realize i need to get my shit together and then i have dinner its like i completely forgot about the concern.

NSR at least you acknowledge the issue and have been working towards better health for months now - since this thread was created. That's got to help. Who knows if he ever really addressed his health / weight. Even if you don't succeed, at least you'll be able to say you died trying. (Ok that really didn't sound right. This was meant to help but I'm not the best with words. Hopefully you get the gist.)... You're doing something about it.

Yea, I know, it just brings it home.

I spent a bit of time digging and sprinkler system trench this weekend and fixing and extending a pipe.  Twenty-five feet, a foot deep and eight inches wide through moist/wet compacted clay and pretty heavy 2 inch tree roots and fern roots.  Lots of stomping on the shovel and lots of swinging the 5.5 lbs mattock and cutter axe.  Pretty much every shovel had to hack through something.

I'm out of shape.  :(  Good exercise and now I can extend the sod and my sons playard area and set up a new border area that isn't overgrown.

Good for you, NSR. You didn't take the easy way out, sitting on the couch watching someone else you hired do it. Did it yourself.

I missed my Friday update. Very busy now that summer is here and school is out. So much to get done in the next few months before we start up again! I have been getting frustrated with fluctuations on the scale and may space out my check ins.

Since the last update: -  1 lb.

Total since 4/10: 16 lbs.

A few days ago, I started cutting back an additional 200 calories / day to speed this up. This 1 lb. per week stuff is for the birds. My deficit was lessening due to the weight loss.

:( Years ago I followed this one blogger. She was really into the LC WOL. I SO admired this person's determination. She lost a lot of weight and just never gave up. She probably had some good excuses too. She's had some really tough things come her way like dealing with the death of her baby. I read her journal about 5 years before she stopped. I can't remember one time in that 5 years she didn't follow through. We just reconnected on Facebook...

She is posting photos every day of her lunch. Ruffles. Coke. Chocolate Covered Pretzels. Kit Kat. A heavy dinner last night at a Mexican restaurant. It was a shock to say the least!!

Sooo disappointing!!!!

I wrote her about it. She said she experienced some dental issues which derailed her diet. Ok, I don't think that's a valid excuse. Maybe for a very brief period but not years, come on. Anyway, it is said this outcome is extremely common. Most people who attempt to follow a new WOL, do in fact fall off the wagon for one reason or another. It is a scary thought.

LC is great for dropping weight.  Or I should say, LC was great for dropping weight.

IMHO, LC has been totally corrupted.  Basically, LC, Paleo, south beach, low GI, natural food, or just plain old healthy eating in their basics have surprisingly similar maintenance phase meals.  LC, South Beach, even Zone have been corrupted. You never lose your bad habits any more because the diet industry has created boat loads of 'name of the diet' chocolate covered cookies and crew snack bar.i

So instead of learning to have a small handful (dozen of so) almonds and a apple for an afternoon snack when you get a little hungry, you still grab a candy bar, it's just a low carb bar, or a 'zone' bar, or whatever diet bar, but it's still packing 300 calories and still taste like and keeps the psychological behaviors present for a I can have whatever sweets I want.

How many of you guys think Snooki could beat you at arm wrestling?

She is a tiny little thing, only 4'9", but is currently in better shape than many.

Yup... if I had much more time and much more money, I would be much more fitter (or maybe fatter?).

Well, let's see how long this lasts. She has recently said she wants more kids and soon. That doesn't do the body any favors.

?Get off your butts,? the nation?s doctors said Tuesday, as the American Medical Assn. adopted a new policy on sitting in the workplace.

Citing mounting evidence that sitting for extended periods of time is really bad for you, the physicians group is now urging employers and others to make alternatives to sitting available to workers ? standing work stations, isometric balls that allow the core to remain engaged while a person sits, and so on.
(snip)
"The chair is out to kill us," Levine told Los Angeles Times contributor Karen Ravn in May. Levine?s research has revealed that a person who works at a desk job might burn 300 calories during a work week, Ravn wrote, while those in jobs that require physical effort can burn 2,000 calories more. Sitting also harms circulation, leads to aches and pains and also increases the risk of diabetes, heart troubles and premature death.

So, aside from the Fat Joke Du Jour (which was pretty funny, btw), what changes have you noticed in the last 4 or so months since we began this thread and you began walking at night, biking, etc? Are you still taking the nightly walks? You seem pretty secretive so I can't tell if you're not seeing any material changes or you just don't want to say.

I'm not really seeing any material changes.

I started walking daily too.

I think I just slowly stopped the decline... I actually look and feel bigger than I did 4 months ago. Bleh... maybe in 4 more months I will have reversed the damage of not being active for 3 months from my knee injury... just keep swimming... just keep swimming.
