NSR- you were mentioning sudden drop in BP leading to that metallic taste in the mouth. I read the post on my phone but didn't respond I think. I lost where that conversation was happening.. can you tell me more about it? My usual BP is low- I never go above 110/70, and sometimes have gone as low as 80/50- according to my doctor(s) it's fine, and none of my blackouts happen due to that. I do experience blackouts every now and then, latest one was few months ago at the gym.

CZ, the official medical position is no correlation, but many people report a metallic taste in their mouth preceding fainting.  It's something a doctor told me after I had a fainting episode due to allergic reaction.  It's something I have to this day, I notice that when I get momentarily light-headed, that any drink will have a metallic taste.  Pretty much put anything in my mouth when I get that light headed feeling and I'll detect a metallic / coppery taste.

The method of action is Vasovagal syncope.

Basically, what causes it?  Anything.  What are the symptoms?  anything and fainting.

Thanks for sharing the link NSR- argh @ the cornerstone of treatment is avoidance of triggers known to cause syncope in that person.
I do try to avoid the usual trigger points. I don't even need to put anything in my mouth. The saliva tastes metallic..

Get well soon, CZ! See what your doctor thinks?

Crap. Last week went down in a blaze of glory on Sunday and this week started with one yesterday. I CAN not, WILL not, let this continue! Today... so far, so good.

Sometimes dieting sucks. It often requires extra planning ahead. Obviously, it requires putting thought into what you're eating.

Last night, I made Steak Diane with organic, grass-fed beef - top sirloin steaks. Garlic Herb Pinwheel Rolls (everybody loves these). Roasted Asparagus.

Sat down to eat and realized I was like 40 calories from maxing out for the day. I had a few spears. Passed on everything else. More for Mr. SoCal! He don't mind.

Most days, I try not to wait until the last minute to tabulate where I am. The worst feeling is when you think you're doing great and realized you forgot about something you had earlier. Then, of course, you have to make up for it... and the sooner, the better. It also is not a lot of fun spending 2 hours making dinner only to realize you can't eat it. I think this is the first time this has happened. Lesson learned. I also can not trust my own intuition on what to eat. I depend entirely on counting!

Friday Update

This week's loss: 0, zilch, nada  :'(

Total loss since 4/10: still 15 lbs.

... Let the public flogging commence. After all, this is why I chose not to keep track in a private diary but instead in front of a bunch of imaginary friends and strangers.

What I didn't do: Stay on course since last Friday. I had 2 bad days.

What I did do: Cut my intake by an additional 150 calories per day on top of my normal deficit the rest of the week to make up for it a little.

I know it's not uncommon to see fluctuations and I didn't get a chance to weigh myself at my normal time this morning so I'm hoping for better results next week. I will be more concerned if there's no movement by next week.  ??? According to just the numbers, I have burned in excess of 3,500 calories (the # of calories in a lb.) since last Friday so I should have seen a drop.

Every time you go above limit on your calories with carbs and sugar, douse yourself in black coffee immediately. Also, it might be water weight. You had two bad days.. I am assuming lot of fat/ sugar /carbs?

I didn't get to walk, but I exercised my mouth plenty- ate salad till it hurt :P Eating salads for lunch everyday, but rest of the day is not that pretty. Depending on work/ parenting/ relation stress I am raiding the pantry and fridge. I hope things calm down soon on all fronts and I get to sleep- operating on lot of food and very little sleep for more than ten days now.

So, what's the plan for summer? Since boys will be home, you will be cooking/ baking. How do you plan to control then? I need to come up with a solid plan. We have a little baker in the house.

Haven't checked in for a while but I have been a good boy.

I upped my caloric intake to 2840.  I'm doing a lot of swim training for my first Tri so I need the energy.  I've added a shake into my morning routine.  Berries, Banana, Peanut Butter, Silk and Whey Protein powder.

My swimming has come a long way but I'm not even close to competing at this level.

I'll be in Manhattan next week for work and then in the Hamptons the week after so I will be posting even less unless I need the drama.

Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying their summer!

CZ, yes, you assume right. Lots of sugar.

I had a grease splatter accident in the kitchen last night when I was making dinner.  :( I was browning chicken in my cast iron skillet to make a new recipe for Oven Barbecued Chicken (Taste of Home magazine's list of Top 20 recipes from the last 20 years). YES, I had a splatter screen over it. Didn't matter. It exploded right through it! First time I had seen it that bad. I got hit in the face right when I turned my head, in the corner of my eye and cheek.  :( My left hand is burned the worst. Got hit in the chest and stomach and splatter on my right arm. Right now, I'm in no mood to think about getting back in there. A salad from the store sounds pretty good to me. The heat coming off the oven makes my burns throb. I'd like to make something cold for dinner but I already bought the ingredients for Beef Enchiladas for tonight - one of the other Top 20. Maybe I'll ask Mr. SoCal to cook it. HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! Yeah, right.

It did not get my vote for a Top 20 unless it's "Top 20 That Will Send You To The Hospital".

During the summers, we spend a LOT of time at the pool! I am hoping to burn lots of extra calories. I pack us snacks for the day and off we go!

Aww, cute. Iho, is that your way of saying you won't flog me for this week's fail? Cool. Having fluffy friends certainly has its benefits.

I hate burns, but those are badges that I cook! My first burn was when was around 10.. mom was frying something, and went running to her after school, unknowingly hit the handle and the pan just flipped.. mom had burns all over her stomach and my arm was all gone.. took several years for the badges to disappear. Then there was one when I was sixteen. Set my legs on fire. Don't ask me how. Long story- don't want to tell it now, but people wanted to know why I was suicidal :'( Reason? I was wearing a maxi dress when it caught fire, and it was of a material that catches fire quick.. there was this guy in the house (he was fixing something) and he immediately came to help, thought the best thing to do is tear my skirt off. Of course I resisted! Would rather burn than get my skirt torn by a stranger! Somehow the story spread that I did want to get burned. The burns were so bad, I cried during physical therapy. The legs had to be bent everyday :'( Had those scars for several years, my parents had to never worry about me wearing booty shorts and mini skirts! Then during college, I rode a Scooty. One day it rained.. and I was Asian living in Asia.. still didn't know how to drive when it was not sunny and bright. Lost control so bad, the leg got lodged between the hot exhaust pipe and scooty when we fell, and dragged me along a bit. Could see my bone :'( I know when you say you can feel the burn when near heat. Oh, when R1 was three, and we were in North Cal, I set the kitchen on fire. No injuries, but we traumatized the child enough to eat out for a couple of months. She would start crying every time we stepped in the kitchen! Burns and I go a long way. You take care and be more careful.

Snacks and off you go to the pool is a great idea! I can't do pool, but snacks and off we bike should work!

Oh, no, CZ. I hope your legs are ok now??! What a nightmare. I hope you feel better.  :(

That happened long long ago. There are some white marks here and there, look like stretch marks. But all healed :)

I kind of feel like an idiot because of the accident. I know better than to put wet, naked chicken with no batter into hot grease. Me, personally, I always BROIL it instead!! But, hey, the recipe wouldn't be a Top 20 if it didn't work, right? Wrong. From now on, I'm going to draw a big X through the directions that I know are senseless. I'd like to see the scars on the lady who wrote this thing!  ::)

Oooooh, the Hamptons. Sounds fancy schmancy. Have fun, Homer!!

Thanks Socal.  Love them company retreats.  More enjoyable now as we have my son to bring along! Feels more like a family vacay!

CZ, on second note, I really think you will NOT like North Tustin...  I don't want the place to burn down.

Sorry to hear about the burn SoCal. Must have been a water pocket under the chicken skin.
