30 Day Fitness Challenge

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Feasting is celebrating.

Our problem is feasting is easy, celebrations way too common and our jobs park us on our behinds.

We had a celebration this weekend, ended up eating at Cheesecake Factory with the inlaws.  I didn't do well.  We got there late, so I was over hungry, plowed a good chunk of bread down.  Did well with the Skinnylicious Turkey club, but complimented it with fries instead of a salad.  Then split a cheesecake with my wife.

Trying to cut down on the processed foods.  Unfortunately, having a real challenge with the Wheat Thins Toasted Chips crackers.  My wife can snack on a few, I tend to down a bag in a couple sittings.

I was looking at something which tripped the Truth About Six Pack Abs advertisements.  McGeary if anything is a master marketer that has completely overwhelmed google such that you cannot find any information on this 5 year old 'system' that isn't advertisement propaganda.  In the ads, they talk about the food to avoid and foods that help the fat fight.  I'm curious what their take is and if anybody has it.  It's one those avoid these 5 'healthy' foods and these 5 'unhealthy' are actually healthy claims.  Just curious what it is

NSR- my husband can relate to your wheat thins addiction. He can finish the whole bag in 2/3 days! We stopped buying them from Costco- only way to stop eating :)
Haven't heard about that guy, but when it comes to eating: Eat something fresh if you can. Eat something cooked fresh. Eat ingredients you can identify. Being a non-beef/pork eater, almost all fast foods are ruled out for me. In a way, saved me!

Ah. Good times.

This morning, I was patting myself on the back for not giving in to temptation on my anniversary.

A few hours later and I'm making:

Mozzarella-Stuffed Italian Sausage Meatball Sliders and Coleslaw for dinner
with
Banana Cream Pie on a Chocolate Cookie Crust for dessert.

There is already a slice and one slider missing and it's only 4 p.m.  :'( How am I going to get through this day. I also bought Mr. SoCal some Bud Lime-A-Rita and have those chilled. None for me. I love margaritas but I hate beer!

Oh, well. I've had a good week and will not let one day spiral into something out of control. I usually take a day off once every 7-10 days anyway. I kinda don't like taking a day off but I "have" to or else I start gettin' crabby.

If I hadn't met you multiple times, I would ask "Are you for real?" SoCal, that's a compliment!

Whoa! He is amazing! There is a lady runner at the high school track.. six pack, with curves. I saw her sprint last evening, and my jaw just dropped.. how do these people get that energy? 28- you and Homer seem to be doing a good program. How did you develop the endurance? You are built that way, or is it training over the time?

That is AMAZING!!

Nice to see Homer's home video has gone viral. Congrats, Homer.  :)

Some of those work outs from the video are in the Insanity program.  A lot of those exercises I do incorporate to my circuit training days.  These are wonderful to perform because you don't need much.. just your body weight.

I've been doing a lot more swimming now.  I feel stronger and confident but not to the point where I can swim in the ocean yet.

Hehe. Last night I showed Mr. SoCal that awesome video. He was like, "Oh, yeah. I could do that." HAHA, yeah, right!! He does not exercise EVER. I did see him jog for the first time a couple days ago -- to my cookie jar and back because I made Oatmeal Chocolate Chip! That was the only time I've seen him run.  :) I saw him do a pull-up 1 TIME when I dared him at a park. He did do it but I knew there was no way he could do anything in this video. So then he got on the floor and did the clap push-ups!! No, not the 360 degree or behind-the-back. Just the regular clap and also the chest taps.  :o I was shocked.

I don't wanna know what my nose would look like if I tried those push ups!

They eat.  Seriously, they eat and eat quite a lot.

I did 30 minutes of cardio at LA Fitness after work yesterday. Sweated like a pig because it felt so humid in the place.  Last night I was spent, but most times, I have more energy after a exercising.

Energy isn't really the challenge, time is the challenge.  I find the body weight things more and more interesting because literally, like 100 pushups, you can do the routine in 10 minutes.  Things like ab exercises of bear walking, can be a play with my boy.

But, to go to the gym, well, it's stop on the way home, go in, change and head out to the machines, you've already spent an extra 15-30 minutes, workout 30-45 minutes, shower, change, load up and head home, another 15-30 minutes shot depending on how out of the way the gym is.

As for eating, the basic rules are easy to understand.  It's the practical implementation and the effects trigger foods have on the body.

I try to go to the gym once a week, mainly for the machines. Cardio is usually with family- walk with husband, or bicycling with kids depending on their homework, sometimes a home video though I am not that motivated when I am alone, Wii Fit sometimes..

Eating- Yes! Rules are the easiest part.. especially Homer's it's only food rule ;-)
But I am generally eating well these days, making better choices than just let go. School will close in two weeks- will kick up my exercise routine then.

ETA: I finally started eating chicken. Ate some over the weekend at a friend's barbeque. Didn't really taste much different from the vegan chicken I eat :P

That's the magic of chicken, everything else tastes like it. :) That's why I can take my kids to Veggie Grill, they have no idea.

So I'm still walking daily, but I switched it up to early morning from late evening. I wake up at 6am for a 30-40 minute walk. Try to get one bike ride in with the family on the weekend and started upping my basketball to Sat AND Sun.

I'm still big bacteria'ed.

Friday Update

This week's loss: 1 lb.

Total loss since 4/10: 13 lbs.  :)

Happy June, everyone! Don't give up! It's time to get serious on our beach bodies!

This lady's blog post sums up perfectly why I love counting calories: All Or Nothing Thinking

Same as her, when I tried losing weight on my own - before I knew what a calorie really was and how to manage them - I would kick myself for not eating perfectly. I thought that meant I failed and that it was too late to turn that day around. Tracking calories, you realize it's ok if you "slip up". It does not spell doom. In fact, you could have a loss despite giving in! It is the only way I've found to get my head in the game.

If you are like me - good with money, this is a perfect way to go about it. I view calories like dollars. You have a "budget" to work with, to spend any way you want. If you want to spend your calories on nothing but S'mores that day, you could do that. It's not smart but yeah, you could still lose weight. You have that option. Or, you could eat more on food worth fewer calories. Learning to view calories like dollars is what I credit to helping me lose 30 lbs. I could have never done that on my "own" previous to that!

thats great -what is your goal?

I've asked myself the same thing. I think rather than picking a magic number, I'm just going to keep creating a deficit, keep getting my thyroid checked to make sure I'm in a healthy range, and see where it takes me. I'm not doing anything differently now than I was back in February / March when I was gaining weight and off my medication. That controls everything regardless of how much I eat and move. So, I'm just going to go with the flow.

Oooh, I'm kind of anxious about this week.

Just when I was doing so well, increasing my weekly loss, I had a rare, crazy weekend. I had my first non-diet soda in approximately 3 years. A real Coke. I also had my first milkshake in about a year. We went out to eat at P.F. Chang's @ The Shops at Mission Viejo while my boys were at a party at Farrell's. Unfortunately, none of it was as good as I imagined it would be. Does this happen to anyone else? I notice when I'm dieting, even on days when I don't give myself a limit, I just don't enjoy it as much. Everything just tastes Blah like my tastebuds are dead and I get full so quickly. At least that's good news for the rest of the week! I asked the waiter if he brought me a real Coke, not diet. He said yes. I thought maybe their syrup was running out so I made my husband try my drink. He said it was the real deal, not diet. I still couldn't tell. Something about me has changed. Nothing really tastes like it used to.

I'm a little scared to step on the scale on Friday but I'm still going to try my best! I'm seeing a noticeable difference... that is enough to keep going.

Diet soda actual tastes sweeter and fizzier than sugared soda.  The viscosity of the sugar mutes the fizz and the artificial sweeteners are way sweeter to compensate for lack of mouth feel.

As for restaurants being disappointing, once you start to detox off the over salted, over fatted, recipes, most restaurant meals start to taste very off.

I have no problems eating out, but the problem starts after I eat out.. a veggie burger with a side of onion rings on whole wheat at Islands fills me up for the whole day while a morningstar burger made with Lucille's sauce and bakery bought whole wheat buns only fuel me for 3 hours.  Things do tasty very salty outside home (or when mom cooks).
