Veterans Cemetery coming to Irvine

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I guess the force wasn't very strong in yaliu.

I still don't get what BP buyers are complaining about... the cemetery is too far for ghosts to travel.

It's been 2 years. Tax free gain if he sold

The entrance will literally be across the street from PS3.

In fact, from the looks of things many residents will have views of the 21 gun salutes from their living rooms.

Cemetery will stay where it will and may be it's a good thing in a long run for steady growth of house value.

PS homes are already somewhat cheaper than other new developments and as the house price has been going up crazy in the last 2 years, if FOBs and other ABCs shy away from the whole region, it could act as a dampening effect on ever rising home price without having economic recession or overshooting downturn...  May be I'm exaggerating too much...

I'm sure many of you saw this already but a bad school is a lot worse than a cemetery on home value and again it's not just any cemetery...

Also for those who thought Irvine is getting too Asian...  This will bring in more other Asian residence and younger couples/families if home prices stays more "affordable" than other Irvine areas... Have you seen recent new re-sale homes coming on the market?  The listing prices are just outrageous on many...

The entrance  will face the PS apartments right?

Sure, ghosts have limited capacity to travel beyond certain doomed areas, but not zombies!

Musick Jail is going to be the new Irvine in the zombie apocalypse.

Find all the details in the Irvine staff report, available on-line from the city agenda links. Including a detailed map of the future cemetery. Do your homework.

I think the pricey library should grab more attention then this.

Wonder if this will cause buying to dramatically shift to Eastwood and OH now that the Cemetery is closer to being realized.

I don't think so. The main issue with BP is the high MR.

No, Beacon Park will get a prominent FS "expert" to provide a detailed opinion on all of the features they'll add to offset the bad FS from the cemetery. Maybe they'll bury a perimeter of jade around the cemetery, similar to what was done in Lambert Ranch?

I believe this was the correct decision. People in GP bought homes knowing that this was proposed, paid less for their homes, and saw an opportunity to move the site to increase property values for themselves. The new location did not make any sense. Everyone living in Irvine would be affected by this. As I also said: Broadcom would not want it there. If Feng Shui is such a big deal, imagine the potential for lost employees at their new main office. At the end of the day, it is a 50 billion dollar company bringing in 8,000 jobs to Irvine. Developers have their way.

The Vets deserve a cemetery and they are getting one at a perfectly good location that was agreed upon years ago. I'm glad the council saw through this.

The best of all this: Shea "countered claims that the land swap was really about the developer's profit margins. She said the site FivePoint is giving in exchange was worth more because the developer could sell it off to an organization for its international headquarters."

Wouldn't it be good to bring thousands more jobs to the most visible portion of Irvine where a company can bring in their international headquarters??? The Spectrum area, with the new dual business towers going up is the heart of business in Irvine. Having more land available for these business opportunities is great for everyone.

Keep the cemetery where it was originally supposed to be!

So basically, the veterans deserve a cemetery.............. as long as it doesn't affect you.

P.S.  It's not just GP homeowners who are against the cemetery.  There are folks in WB, SG, CV, PS who are as well.

There's a difference between affecting every single Irvine resident (and every driver that drives up 405/5) than when people bought their homes knowing a cemetery was going to happen and are now complaining. If they move it, people in LA, Quail Hill, etc, who did not know this would happen when they bought their home would then fight it as well. It's just shifting the fight and it would get much uglier to appease residents and BP and give a developer a free ride. That's a major difference and something you are not seeing.

As a bonus, Irvine does not want to give land away in a location that can create thousands of jobs and be the beacon of Irvine for an international corporate headquarters, as Silva herself said. I'm also sure Broadcom had a say in this.

I listened to the council and getting the land swap is not easy. They have to get laws passed in the state senate and have the federal government agree. they've already agreed to this plot of land and now it is final. I'm glad the council stayed firm in this and put a resolution to keep it to where it is.

The people who are fighting this are fighting for free money and that's it.

It's a shut case, now they need to focus on building out the cemetery in the current location.

I have no real stake in this, but just a correction on Broadcom before people are thinking they are bringing in thousands of jobs into Irvine.

Since their merger with Avago (technically got bought out by Avago and Avago went with the name Broadcom Limited), they are actually laying off employees in Irvine. The number should be significantly more than the 700 mentioned in the article (reaching into the thousand) by the time when all is said and done.

Originally the headquarter was suppose to be 5 buildings? Now the campus is only 3 main builders I believe. And they're simply going to use it to consolidate the workforce into the campus vs. bringing in more jobs. That was the original plan, no so much now that they've been bought out and are consolidating.

Why not just put it smack in the middle of the Great Park.. would look way nicer.  But hey.. I'm not a Irvine City councilmen.
