Veterans Cemetery coming to Irvine

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

8000 burial comes out to about 25 burials a day..at about 20 cars per burial, that's 500 car per day or 3500 cars per week.
I like your mathematical approach. But, there's no way to know how many cars will be for each during what time of day. What will the funeral procession look like? I know they're not driving the posted 60 MPH on Sand Canyon or Irvine Blvd.

Irvinecommuter said:
The high school is estimated to have 2500 students...assuming one car per two students, that's 1,250 cars per day or 7,250 cars per week (5 school days).  While there is school 9 months out of the year, we have haven't even counted things like staff traffic, sports meets, football games, music/art performance, etc.  Most of that traffic, conversely, is going to come down on Irvine from Sand Canyon
Comparing a high school to a cemetery is completely apple and orange. School age kids will have to go to one school or another. The traffic pattern will change minutely based on the direction they'll be going. Cemetery on the other hand, will be mostly non-local residents who travel from other places and add to the traffic we already have.

2)  Toxicity
Again...you put not context to this issue.  Even assuming the cemetery poses an environment risk of some sort, it is on top of a former superfund site that is still be monitored by the EPA and US Navy.  There is a known TCE issue underneath the base.  TCE is significantly more hazardous to your health.
The superfund exists to cleanup the site so it's fit for human use. It's a different question as to whether you believe EPA that's it's indeed clean or not. But, where's the superfund to pay for the toxic cleanup from the cemetery?

Irvinecommuter said:
Also, you completely mischaracterized the watering issue in Northern California Veteran's Cemetery.  The money was privately raised through donations and volunteer, not forced costs on locals.
Clearly you missed the point. The state does not guarantee the funding and can pull out any time. They've done it. Then it's left up to the locals to figure out how to come up with the money. What if the private funding didn't come through? What then?

Irvinecommuter said:
All these "side arguments" are just cause a bunch of eyerolls.
You spend all of your time attempting to debunk others yet you haven't brought any factual argument to the table other than eye roll and the same old narrative you'd like to push.

Plenty of TCE and PCB under El Toro.

And lots more: http://www.sciencecorps.org/Veteranshealth/

I especially "like" the part about depleted uranium
That's why there's a superfund to clean it all up before it's fit for people to live and play on.http://yosemite.epa.gov/opa/admpress.nsf/0/77B8667025C1EC9685257C6D0070101C

Who's paying for the clean up from the toxin's coming out of buried bodies in the cemetery?

Geez, you are an ignorant sort. There will be none to clean up. Never is.

You were not there when the public cemetery discussions took place (I was), you can't/won't research public records, can't even find a recent newspaper article. You must be the founder of the fictional ORCA, the fabricator of falsehoods to scare 'Asians' (OC Register's term), conducting children's comic kabuki gravestone theater at council meetings.

Just a whiney Johnny-come-lately Taoist NIMBY.  Am I correct?

Fyi... This dude came on from the vet fb page. What a clown.

I'll quote from the EPA release. "The EPA determined that all environmental impacts at a total of 112 locations were thoroughly investigated and the appropriate cleanup actions were taken to protect human health and the environment."

If you're so in the know. Please impart your wisdom to us. Show the proof of the public record. I can't wait to see it.

Where you, on the other hand, other than calling people name and telling people to do homework have fail to offer any fact to backup your statement.

The Veterans cemetery came in during this process. Before Irvine sold out to FP, the cemetery was part of the discussion. Irvine cried poor to sell the FP deal.

Please help us do our homework. Where's the documentation to back this up?

Video records of public Irvine City Council meetings.
There are a ton of videos. Which one?

Am I not correct in my assessment? (But then you could be just a troll)

www.cem.va.gov  Look it up yourself. I've provided plenty of facts and sources, and was there when the business happened. You weren't, so you are clueless.

You didn't care then or were too lazy to bother, so now you persist with mindless chatter. Babble on, you are amusement.

No point talking to the dude. He came on TI with an Agenda... To argue for the cemetery built for baby killers.

@eatthis...I'm really done with this "discussion"...you keep moving the goalpost and ignoring context.  I feel like I'm talking to an anti-vaxxer who keeps telling me to "look at the facts."

Argue what you want and however you like...believe it or not, I was trying to help you but you keep want to throw up red herring arguments.  Your stance was already hard to defend...the strategies taken by your group make it infinitely harder.

I know some pretty TOUGH VETERAN dudes from having volunteered at the veterans clinic.
They care about the NOW: their health, their job opportunities, their housing, their families. After having gone through everything they have and facing their challenges now, where they will be buried is a MOST TRIVIAL CONCERN to them.

The Vets who can worry about this are the LUCKY ONES. It becomes a SYMBOLIC issue over PERCEIVED RESPECT for these lucky ones.

Let 5P build a memorial and offer other support. WIN WIN.

i agree with you.  it seems money can well spent other things (house, loan, hospital and etc) instead of cemetery.  in addition, there is already riverside national veteran cemetery.

I don't understand why the anti-cemetery group is taking this militant approach as opposed to working more quietly with 5 Points and the City to perhaps find a compromise location in the park?
Militant? You think the residents speaking our mind is militant? I'm sure 5P and the politicians will work very hard on our behalf if we would just stay quiet not apply any pressure on them.

Couldn't agree more. Don't forget Los Angeles National Cemetery is about 50 miles from GP, not much farther than Riverside.

There is a new columbarium under construction in LA that will hold approximately 30,000 urns from cremations.

Gah! I went to bed early last night. Reading this thread made me conk out. Meanwhile, it looks like somebody else got their second wind.

Yeah...echo chamber went into super active mode.  But hey...why should the veterans think about what they want...we know better!

Sounds more like a whack-a-mole in the past few days. Better keep my trap shut from now. Ouchy!
