My brother-in-law lives in the hills of Orange and he can see the flames from him bedroom. Some cops came by the house earlier to tell the residents to stay at home and that if they need to evacuate, they will give them a 15 minute warning. Fortunately, the winds are pushing the flames away from the houses.

We live close to wilderness areas and we will be up every now and then tonight to check the news to make sure we do not need to evacuate. I want to encourage anyone else who might be close to wilderness or fire prone areas to do the same.

Oh, Awgee, that reminded me. I hope the people at the holdout home/farm in the middle of Portola Springs is ok. I love that house and if I ever won the lottery, I'd make an offer on it.

I just drove back from LA County and you can smell the smoke from Yorba Linda on the 57. With air circulating in my car the smoke still came in. Now back in Northwood. I hope it doesn't get too bad out there.

Evalseraphim, they were saying earlier that there was some famous local pair of sisters in their 80s that were evacuated. They were some of Irvine's earliest residents.

Wonder if that's them...

Eva - What is the story on that home? I figured, probably incorrectly, that it is the home for whomever manages the avacado and other orchards and farms up there.

Ok my comment about the firetrucks needs to be retracted. It has been nonstop sirens going up that way. I can see the plume of smoke coming off the hill and heading southwest.

BTW there is a chat here at IHB that works better for things like this.

Yeah, we have our documents rounded up.

I don't feel physically threatened yet or anything but evacuation could certainly happen.

There was an overhead shot of some street in Irvine too with gnarly traffic. Not sure what it was but it looked like it could be Irvine Blvd.

I have already left my place in Northwood. Not willing to wait till the last minute for them to tell us we need to go.

Also the air quality is horrible.

Msg from Irvine RACES: northwood high and canyonview elem closed.

A wildfire that consumed more than 4,000 acres in a wilderness area bordering northeast Irvine has been contained near the city but is still burning elsewhere, fire officials said Sunday night.

Orange County Fire Authority Chief Chip Prather said that about 3,800 acres had burned so far in the Limestone Canyon Region Park area and that Irvine is covered in "some nasty, stinky smoke" but the fire has been extinguished near the city.
