Obama aides say Beto O'Rourke reminds them of the ex-president. Obama agrees.

Rep. Beto O'Rourke may have lost in Texas, but he's winning in Obamaland.

Aides to the former president and the man himself say O'Rourke's campaign against Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, gave them flashbacks to Obama's precocious political rise and has positioned the young white congressman as an early if unlikely heir to the first black president's "hope and change" mantle.

The Texas Senate race had an interesting dynamic.  You had a white guy pretending to be Hispanic in "Beto", and then you had a Hispanic guy pretending to be white in "Ted".  Neither is their real name.

Pretend is a weird word.  Name does not a person make.

Beto has used the name since birth and grew up in an area with a significant Hispanic community.

Ted was born in Alberta and his mom is 3/4 Irish and 1/4 Italian.  He moved to Texas when he was 4 and attended private schools before going to Princeton.

GWB had good support from Latino/Hispanic because he spoke Spanish and actually target Latino voters during his campaigns.

The late George HW Bush #41 also ran for US Senate to represent Texas and did not win just like Beto. Also if Beto won the Senate Seat he most likely would not run for President in 2020.

oh boy, can't wait for the bloodbath of the democratic primary!

Beto's excellent adventure drips with white male privilege

But O'Rourke, tall, handsome, white and male, has this latitude, to be and do anything. His privilege even allows him to turn a loss to the most despised candidate of the cycle into a launching pad for a White House run.

Stacey Abrams, a Yale-trained lawyer, couldn't do this.

O'Rourke is being criticized for his randomness. For his TMI'ing and for his "what do I want to do with my life" aimlessness.

But the fact that he knows he has the freedom to cast about as a campaign-in-waiting forms, shows how much of his political identity is predicated on being white and male.

NBC article: Trump reverses course on Special Olympics funding cut after Betsy DeVos comes under fire

"The Special Olympics will be funded, I just told my people," President Trump said Thursday afternoon.

The president's announcement comes after his education secretary, Betsy DeVos, was grilled by congressional Democrats in two hearings this week over the proposal to eliminate all federal funding for the Special Olympics.

The Special Olympics is largely funded by private donations but receives $18 million a year in federal funds that the organization said it uses for school programs for students with disabilities.

DeVos expressed support of the budget change after the president's announcement.

So was DeVos was against it and now for it.
I will always look out for the little guy. I understand the special olympics to the individuals and families.

The real question is while everyone was squealing about Special Olympics, what sh*t went under the radar.

Oh I was busy today. What went under the radar?

I can?t believe trump is back at it with healthcare repeal again.

This is gross political malpractice.

He had a good news cycle going for him , rather than milk it for what it?s worth and then adopt a reconciliatory tone that could go a long way towards increasing his re election chances , he is doubling down on a bad strategy .

I was listening to NPR this morning and they talked about SSA no match letters once again being sent to employers.  I found it strange that Obama stopped the practice.  Why would SSA not inform an employer of an employee's SS number not matching their name?

https://www.natlawreview.com/article/social-security-administration-no-match-letters-to-employers-make-another-comeback

It's already against the law to hire illegal immigrants.  As much as I think trump is a doofus, I'm glad the letters are going out again.  Why did obama end it?  As an employer, I want to know if my workers SSN's are not matching.

Like this?

?New York Times article: Obama administration officials are sharpening their crackdown on the hiring of illegal immigrants by focusing increasingly tough criminal charges on employers while moving away from criminal arrests of the workers themselves.

Among the employers who have felt the impact of the administration?s tactics are two owners of Mexican restaurants in the Chuy?s Mesquite Broiler chain, which are popular for their laid-back Margaritaville mood and their broiled mahi tacos. On April 20, immigration agents descended on 14 Chuy?s restaurants in coordinated raids in Arizona and California, detaining kitchen workers and carrying away boxes of payroll books and other evidence.?

?Huffington Post Article: Chipotle Fires Hundreds After Immigration Raid

An immigration probe has forced Mexican chain Chipotle to fire hundreds of employees in Minnesota, over recent weeks, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., which owns and operates nearly 1,100 restaurants around the country and employs 25,000 people, was told several months ago that it would face an audit of its I-9 forms, which verify workers can work in the U.S. legally, a Chipotle spokesman told the WSJ.

The Obama Administration is targeting employers with raids of company documents, the WSJ reports, with 2,740 companies audited in the fiscal year that ended September 30th, resulting in a record $7 million in fines for businesses who employed illegal workers.

Why did obama end the soc. sec. no match letters?
On NPR they had a bunch of people against these no match letters.  I found it strange.

I don?t know. What do you prefer letters or a raid with big fines? I prefer a raid with big fines.

After Chipotle Is Stung by Crackdown, Its Chief Urges Overhaul

A government crackdown that found Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. CMG +0.72% had hired hundreds of illegal workers has turned Monty Moran, the burrito chain's fiery co-leader, into an unlikely champion of immigration overhaul.

Over the past year, Chipotle became the highest-profile target of an Obama administration campaign against employers of illegal workers.?
