Once again...nothing to be done but prayers and thoughts

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Hate to be belaboring this every time  , but need to keep setting the record straight -- this is what I have been talking about since two weeks ago.

Few people see the change coming until the culture shifts out from right under them - it is always bit by bit

And soon enough fast forward on this same forum a few years from now , we will all be thinking from a new baseline, just as with gay rights issues

Walmart is not some Whole Foods based in liberal Austin -- it is "as red as they come "

Walmart says it will raise age for purchase of firearms and ammunition to 21
The company said in a statement that ?in light of recent events, we?ve taken an opportunity to review our policy on firearm sales.?

The move comes as other companies have taken action in the wake of the Feb. 14 school shooting in Florida. On Wednesday, the chief executive of Dick?s Sporting Goods also said its company will no longer sell assault-style firearms, will ban high-capacity magazines and will not sell any guns to people younger than 21.

who wants to live next door to these psychos ?  What if a bunch of oath keepers moved next door to your neighborhood ?  Would home values go up because the neighborhood now has more people who believe in the founding principles ?

all this libertarian b/s is fine when you want romantic speeches but I bet you none of the so called "think tankers" from Cato / Heritage want these wackos anywhere near them

As I pointed out in one of my earlier posts , many of the right wing groups may have started off with noble causes but in the age of trump / Fox News / breitbart , they have reducted down to

1. blood and soil nationalism
2. strictly defining American culture as "white " culture not to be polluted with others
3. demonizing the other side and treating every issue as a "war" - us versus them
4. govt encroachment is something to be fought w arms when it is the other side but when it is trump telling states what to do with mariuana , it is fine . Same w deficits and debt.

This kind of describes white flight, where mostly Republican-leaning white families who believes in the Constitution and Founding Principals of the nation move to what they consider to be more desirable neighborhoods.

Not exactly .  and this is a good point to highlight and discuss actually

1. Gays and other "cool"  groups , hipsters etc moving into a neighborhood adds to its perceived value

2. Young educated families comfortable w diversity adds value to a neighborhood  - both parents working elite white collar jobs etc

3. Gun crazy loners and white supremacists do NOT add value to a neighborhood

The "white" flight you are talking about (and correct me if I misinterpreted you) -- is when poor minorities move into a neighborhood and whites who dont want to do the heavy lifting to help w assimilation call it quits.  this generally leads to a drop in home values . Example could be Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago.  These whites are not necessarily conservative - and this is a KEY distinction from what I am talking below

The second type of white flight is actually beneficial for a neighborhood -- this is when conservative whites live in a neighborhood that is increasingly being seen as desirable by newer , well educated and rich immigrants.  The whites leaving in this case does NOT lead to a degradation in neighborhood value or drop in home prices .  An example here would be older whites  fleeing Irvine for San Clemente , etc.  The younger generations are much more comfortable with different cultures , cuisines etc and as long as there is good mix of educated people with focus on family and kids, the neighborhood continues to thrive.

Again, I realize I am making broad sweeping generalizations here and there will be a multitude of exceptions.

A lot of "white flight" was the result of racist government and private policies that literally redlined minorities into inner cities while excluding them from buying homes in the suburbs.

Old time residents can let their neighborhoods remain in stasis for all I care - if it helps them feel more comfortable with themselves - this is from purely objective angle of perceived home values - which was my point here.

Dicks Sporting Goods stopped selling AR-15' back in 2012, only the small number of Field and Stream stores continued to carry them since.  To compare there are over 600 Dicks Sporting Goods (not all carry firearms), and only 35 Field and Stream stores.  Walmart stopped selling AR-15's in 2015 and all firearms in CA in 2003.  In other States Walmart had stopped selling handguns except Alaska.  Firearms is a low margin and high liability item, it's more profitable to sell ammo.

Facebook and social media has effectively put people in their own bubbles where they only see conforming political/ideological/religious views.  These software are products of Aspergers living in Happy Aspie Land (Silicon Valley) pushing their lifestyle on rest of us.  Some of you only know me as an IT worker in Irvine.  I spent a couple years working as a MRO consultant in heavy industry across US and Canada, implementing just in time inventory systems.  The job enabled me to travel and work across 20-30 states and 5 Canadian provinces.  I've stood in Valley Forge in Penn, dined at Amish restaurant in Ohio, and stood knee deep in snow at Fort Mac & remote camps in Northern Alberta (oil sands).

I've learned through my travels that the country is a diverse place and people use words and terms like "white flight" differently.  This makes communication rather interesting.  If you're talking to someone from Korea who use "hand phone" for cell phone and "black box' for dash cam, the English words may differ but they mean the same thing and it's not hard to communicate on same level.  But if you're talking to someone in the US with different cultural/political ideology and definition of a word or term, sometimes you have to ask what does <insert word> mean to you.  Like "bless your heart" has different meaning in certain areas.

I recall dining at the cafeteria in Southern factory, the employees were curious about Californians and asked me various questions.  The topic of firearms came up and everyone (except me) at the table pulled out their carry cards.  Fast forward to last month, I was having lunch with former Asian coworkers in Irvine, and one Taiwanese guy at table asked what was required to purchase firearm in the US.  To my surprise Everyone (except that guy) pulled out their CA firearm safety cert card, including the Japanese girl who sat across from me.  I later found out that she owns 3 pistols.  Four of us are carpooling to Bass Pro Shops in Rancho this weekend.  I suspect the % of firearm owners here is probably much higher than whatever statistics they published from surveys.

Lastly, I took the Oath of Citizenship where I swore "I will support and defend the Constitution".  If you took this oath but you don't believe in or uphold the Constitution and the Founding Principals, then you lied.

Lo and behold ..  just as I predicted

But we also know he is the biggest flip flopper out there -- we will hav e to wait and see

Trump tells senators 'You're afraid of the NRA'

(CNN)President Donald Trump asked Sen. Pat Toomey, a Pennsylvania Republican who's worked on a bill to strengthen background checks for gun purchases, whether he left a proposal to raise the gun purchasing age to 21 out of his measure because senators are "afraid of the NRA."

In an exchange during a meeting of a bipartisan group of senators at the White House, Trump asked Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Toomey if their background check bill they authored in the aftermath of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 included a provision that would have raised the age at which individuals could purchase rifles from 18 to 21.

Toomey said it did not.

"You know why? Because you're afraid of the NRA," Trump said.

Interpretation of the Constitution is pretty fluid...and Founding Principles are not part of the Constitution.

@momopi - I really like your posts that have a lot of thought behind them.

But I think we are making the same mistake here that we accuse radical adherents of  Islam of making - taking a literal interpretation of their holy text from thousands of years ago

Apples and oranges yes

But a literal interpretation of the constitution from its original context and setting would also involve limiting firearm ownership  to maybe muskets ?  then the gun lovers could own all the muskets they wanted, while other rest of us were free to use them as walking sticks

And dont forget the founding fathers also owned slaves - we dont ding them for it because it was a different cultural context back then when people of color were property to be owned and disposed off at will

And everyone -- honestly , ask yourselves  --- what type of discussion would we be having right now if the Florida shooter was wearing a "Black Lives Matter" t-shirt  or had a crescent moon and star instead of MAGA merchandise ?  How long would it take us to make that aspect the biggest and major part of the discussion on this topic ?

I remember when Target stopped selling guns in California back in the 90s they had a huge blow out sale. Something like 70% off all guns and ammo.  You could get a shotgun at Target for $35. Alas I got there too late when the shelves were almost bare. Too bad Dicks already doesn't sell guns in CA, otherwise there should be some great discounts coming up.

I too swore an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. And I meant what I swore.

I do believe in gun control. Putting five rounds in the ten ring at 300 yds, that is good gun control.

Ya know, this past Sunday the PRC changed their constitution to make supreme leader Xi supreme leader for life. I had no idea our Constitution was so similar to Red China's.

This is just a bunch of worthless virtue signaling garbage.  Just like last time, not much will change.  This corporate jump on the bandwagon will loose steam again.  All a bunch of PR/BS, "but this time we really mean it!"  LOL!!  Lets see if any of this stands in 6 months.

Dick's banned assault rifles after the Newtown school shooting ? and later reversed the decision

Dick's Sporting Goods said Wednesday it would stop selling assault-style weapons in its stores.
The chain also banned the weapons after the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Dick's ultimately started selling the weapons again, however.
Dick's says the ban is permanent this time.

Wait...I thought PR was great when companies were giving small one-time bonuses to employees.

1. Trump: Take guns early without going to court first.
2. Trump shuts down Scalise concealed cary push at televised bipartisan group.
3. Trump tells senators ?Your afraid of the NRA?
4. Trump tells US governors, ?Don?t worry about the NRA?
5. Trump: school safety is a priority

Is this a complete 360% change? Trump knows that public opinion regarding gun control. (70% in favor)
