Hey I want to see how that cayman compares to my lotus evora s on the track.  Let me know when you go out there sometime Martin.  Supposed to be pretty close.
I got the car weighed when I put the CF bucket seats and it came in at around 3,050lbs without me.  Goal is to get it under 3,000lbs.  You should come out to the Porsche Club of America - San Diego Chapter track event in late Jan....

The guy that runs it has a Lotus that he tracks.

Usc is the only person I know that buys a used car and then sells it for the same or more than he bought it for. Must be nice.
I can sniff out the deals on used cars and know how to negotiate....must be having done all those real estate transactions.  haha

in the market for a new minivan/suv.

only requirement is 7 passenger, dvd player and great good mpg.

currently, i have my eyes on toyota sienna, highlander, honda odyssey and acura mdx.
1. is there any other good suggestions?
2. is suv better or minivan better?

thanks

@yaliu:

The new Kia minivan looks pretty good.

The advantages the minivan has over the SUV is it's roomier, has auto sliding doors and the 3rd row is easier to access.

The SUV looks better but depending on how old your kids/passengers are, getting in and out of an SUV may be more difficult.

I've driven a minivan for 10+ years and it's the best vehicle I've driven if you have a family, I just wish it had better gas mileage.

You can't go wrong with a Sienna (my preferred model), but the Odyssey is also good. Your choices for an SUV are also good, both the Highlander and the MDX have been redesigned although the MDX is more expensive. The new Pathfinder is nice too (at least technology wise).

I agree on the superiority of the Mini.
Nothing says "Master of the Universe" like making the side doors slide open at your command.

But, you do have to be secure in your manhood to roll in a Mini.
If you're a little less secure, the SUV is for you.  ;)

When my kids were little, they thought it was magic... and I would enforce that thinking by waving my hand whenever I made the doors open or close with the remote. :)

That's why I'm glad Toyota made the SE (Sports Edition) trim for the Sienna. It has a lower profile, 19" tires, ground kit and clear taillights... I just need to paint stripes or flames on it and add a Farmmie wing spoiler.

Only problem now is too many people have an SE in Irvine... esp women... THE SE IS FOR THE DADS, MOMS ARE SUPPOSED TO DRIVE AN XLE OR LIMITED!!!

(did I yell that out loud?)

IHO, will I see you on the track this weekend?
I threw in a Hemi v-12, ski rack, child seats and soccer equipment.
Got the weight up to a solid 2.5 tons.

I'm going to lap SC's Cayman (after I roll over it).

By the way, Kia Sedona gets good reviews and is cheaper than Toyota or Honda.

(I'm just going to keep talking to myself on this topic.)

I'm listening.

I priced the Kia at one of its higher trims (to match the features on the SE), and it wasn't that much cheaper.

Plus, Toyota discounts pretty well at the dealers and the one in Tustin has service hours in the evening.

But they haven't redone the Sienna in 5 years (I've been waiting).

I'm hoping Nissan redoes their Quest, the front-end is uhgahlee but I like their technology (360 Bird's Eye View is amazing once you use it).

But due to poor mileage, the one that comes out with a hybrid first will win me (unless there is a hybrid mid-size 4-door truck that comes out that's better).

+1
I will def be in line when they come out with hybrid mini.

Those trips to Costco gas have been a little less painful lately, but still not pleasant.

Surprise toyota hasn't been able to bring its hybrid engines to the Sienna.  They're gonna let Chrysler beat them to the punch.

try to buy a new car since it is almost end of year.  research on edmunds and found "average price paid".  is this "average <INVOICE> price paid" or is this "average <OUT OF DOOR> price paid"?

I emailed 4 deals and only two responded back.  Not happy with their price.  Is it still true that end of year will have great deals?

Contact PS9 (the car broker)  :)

You should do some research on the car forums to see what others have paid.  When I bought my dad his GS350 last month we paid about 4k less than what the best Truecar.com price was.

I saw the price on a Lexus car forum and pretty much dug around with different dealerships before getting that sale price.

Looks like no Avalon hybrid for me.. most inventories are gone except for Longo and they refuse to go below 85% of MSRP.  I underestimated the appeal of the mass market for hybrid cars.  My current Avalon is around 75% of MSRP (a great deal in hindsight).  With gas savings of around $600/year, break even for going hybrid is around 3-3.5 years.  I think I can get a better deal targeting the non-hybrids... hmmm

Also just found out the new Avalon starting in '13 is no longer a 'full size sedan' but now mid-size.  I'll loose about 0.5 inches of headroom by going from my '11 to '14.  Might as well go for an Accord or Camry.

You sure your breakeven is only 3-3.5 years?  Low gas prices, I assume u work in irvine and you live here so the breakeven would seem like it would be longer

Just want to make sure your not doing the math like your property tax negative arbitrage situation you got into with your math. Just trying to look out after a fellow TI'er :-)
