NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I don't think they did that poor of job. They did turn PG13 into LBJ. :)

I know many are not fans of LBJ, but he's light years better than Mozgov/Deng.

I finally found the story about PG13 on ESPN... he would have been a Laker had the Lakers traded for him when he was in Indiana (but Lakers didn't want to give up their #2). So basically we got Lonzo instead of PG13.

Hot tub time machine lineup:

DRuss
Ingram
PG13
LBJ
Zubac (assume Mozgov was traded for a bag of chips)

I guess I'm just not a Lonzo fan.

(There is a slim chance of the Lakers getting the first pick. But if we lose more ithe odds get better.  ;))

There is no upside of winning at this point.

Did Magic and Rob do a good job during the AD trade rumor?
(It?s like if you worked for a company and you found out your company got bought out and were most likely going to let go of all the employees. (another scenario company  restructuring) Would you work as hard as before or would you be checked out?

I understand things happen. But there?s better ways of approaching it. Telling the young players that it?s a business is not a great approach in my opinion.

How about the veterans not including Lebron? Are they stepping up to the plate?

Everyone on the radio keeps saying that the lakers didn?t handle the AD trade well because everything came out. Everything always comes out. It?s magnified because it?s the Lakers.

The Celtics were impacted in the same way and they couldn?t even trade for AD. Tatum and the others probably think they won?t be there.

How are these trades supposed to be handled?

Ingram and Lonzo done for the season.

Ingram's DVT sounds problematic, Bosh had to retire from that.

AD is inj prone too but should have traded those brittle kids away.

I don?t know who leaked the trade deal, but the rumors is that it came from the Lakers or other internal camp. (I?m not naming names) That fake news statement by Jeanie was kind of interesting and was a head scratcher. (Why didn?t she say that during the whole AD saga?) Also, Magic?s statement during the AD saga contradicts her statement in a way.

Also, Lakers need to shut down LeBron. What happens if he gets hurt. These current games are meaning less to the team. They are not going to make the playoffs and even if they did. They will be swept in a heat beat.

Look at the construction of the Lakers. It?s like such a joke. They signed these questionable veteran players and turned out they didn?t live up to expectations like what a lot of people said.

I think if Randle was on the team. They would of been a lot better. Also, they let him go for nothing! (It?s free! Your killing me Larry! voice)

I?m really disappointed at how the Lakers are being run.

Everyone should have known that Lebron is the real GM of the Lakers.  They signed who they signed in the offseason because Lebron wanted them to.  KCP is a prime example.  It happened in Cleveland and it is happening again on the Lakers.

Lebron wanted to clear the decks to get top FA next year and didn't want to spend the money on Randle or Lopez.

Please give a grade regarding the Lakers trade line deal. Also, a grade how the organization is run.

I would give the Clippers an A for both. The Clippers got Zubac for nothing. Clippers got 4 picks for Tobias. (2 first and 2 seconds) Clippers obviously benefited from the trades.

Andre Ingram back with the Lakers. Let the fun time begin!
Now I have a reason to watch the Lakers again. (After the AD saga. I watched the Lakers, but didn?t pay attention. I want to say like elevator music/background noise.)

I have to say watching Corusso, Mo, and Williams recent performance have made the Lakers fans excited again. Looks like they care and it shows how they play.

I think the inexperience of Pelinka and Magic showed this season and the offseason.

There were some good mixed in with some bad.

I liked the D Russell trade. They got rid of a cancer, shed salaries, got Kuzma.
It was a mistake to let Randle go for nothing. Could have at least gotten a late 1st rounder or 2 2nd round picks for him.
For the same cost they could have kept Lopez, but they chose to sign pot head Beasley.
12 Mil for KCP was most likely paying to get on the good side of Klutch Sports. JJ Redick was avaliable for 12 mil one year deal. They passed on that. He would have been the perfect 2 guard along Lebron.
The Zubac deal was down right stupid. Muscala is pure trash and they already have a better player with similar game in Mo Wagner.

But I think the media is blowing things out of proportion because it's the Lakers. They were never really going to contend this year. Not while Kevin Durant is still on the warriors.

Basketball wise, getting a top 10 pick is way better than getting blown out in the 1st round of the playoffs. Business wise, they are winning it simply because Lebron is here. According to Ticket Master, average ticket prices for Lakers games up 55% and home teams' prices for Lakers games were up 190% year over year.

Lakers were not going to contend but missing the playoffs and going into the lottery is a disaster.  Basically the best year of Lebron as a Laker wasted...he can only go down from here.  Now with all the drama, who is going to come to the Lakers?

FO messed this up failing to trade for PG-13 (for either Ingram or the no. 2 pick)...then they didn't get Leonard (but honestly I doubted SA would have trade him to the Lakers).  Then they let Lebron dictate the FA pickups rather than picking up better players.  It's a mess all the way around.

I guess this is where we disagree. I feel the team has underperformed but is far from a disaster especially considering we are now in position to get a top 10 pick.

To me this would have been a disaster if they traded all their young players for Davis. Lebron + Davis + 3 replacement level players is not a title contender even if KD leaves Golden state. You need depth to win championship in this league.

It also would have been a disaster if Lebron played top minutes just to get the 8th seed and gets seriously injured. This was what happened to Kobe 2013 and effectively ended his career. Nobody will think back and remember it as the season Lakers squeezed into the playoff. It will always be remembered as the season that ended Kobe?s career.

To your point, Lebron?s 1st Laker year was already going to be wasted the minute he decided to come to a rebuilding team. I think only delusional Laker fans believe a deep playoff run was possible in year 1. Vegas had Lakers pegged as an 8th seed with 45% chance to make the playoff before the season started. Getting a top 10 pick for year 1 is way better than getting blown out in the first round.

Pop was never going to trade Kawai to the Lakers. I am more torn on PG-13 decision because he would have been cheaper to trade for compared to Davis. But Lakers do not have enough assets to trade for both. They gambled on PG-13 coming as a FA and lost but I understand the rationale. You save all your chips for the best player available and that?s Davis.

I think it?s premature to think no top FAs will come to the Lakers. Most top FA chases $$$

Most good FA don't chase $$$ because if they did, they would just stay with the team they are on.  They are looking to win.

PG-13 was a done deal....either for Ball or Ingram.  He is better than both of them combined.

Getting a top 10 pick is nothing...it's only something if you get Zion but after that the draft class is meh.  The worst you can be in the NBA is mediocre.  You need to be terrible or great...being mediocre keeps there for years.  I know from experience as a Warriors fan...they had like 10 years worth of top 10 picks and a few top 3s and in the end...nothing.  Lakers had back to back 2s and a number 7...how has that worked out?  NBA is not like the NFL...you need great players...not a bunch of serviceable ones.

You don't need depth to win in the NBA.  You need superstars and good signings/drafts.  Look at Houston, OKC, Portland, Philly, and Bucks...Boston has too much depth actually and not enough superstars.

You are talking just about contract $$$ but top FA wants to play in big markets to chase endorsement $$$ and other business opportunities. This is why LA will always have an advantage over say Memphis. This is exactly why Lebron came to LA. to chase $$$. He did not come here to best maximize his championship potential.

Yes the price to get PG-13 was cheaper but if Lakers used Ball or Ingram for PG-13, they do not have assets to go after Davis. They made a calculated gamble and it did not work out.

I agree that being mediocre is the worst place to be in the NBA. But barely squeezing in the playoff as an 8th seed IS being mediocre. Being bad enough to get a top 10 pick ( and a small chance at Zion) is better than the 8th seed.

I don't mean depth as in having 8 good players. I mean if we empty the team to get Davis, we would have Lebron + Davis + 3 G league level players. That's not enough.

You can get big time contracts playing anywhere...PG-13 is in OKC..so is Westbrook.  Giannis is in Wisconsin for goodness sake.  Players are not obligate to stay in one place.  Lebron came to LA because he had a ton of business already here...a lot in entertainment.  That's super unique for athletes.

Butterfly wings are bad things to predict.  You get PG-13, who know what you could have done in the offseason after Lebron came.

Lebron and Davis give the team direction...even if they don't make it this year, they have a solid foundation for next year.  Now...they have nothing.

Being the 8th seed is not great but it gives fans hope and soldifies Lebron's ability to lead a team...FA can say...hey they were an 8 seed...if they get one or two more guys...they're competitive.

NBA salaries isn't everything. For star players, more lucrative endorsement deals are given to those who play in big markets like LA/NY. This is not an unique situation for just Lebron. Super star level players will benefit tremendously by playing in big media markets. Kobe made half his money from endorsements. Had he played in small market like Memphis, he would not have gotten anywhere close to the kind of money he got from playing in LA.

I agree that butterfly wings are hard to predict. Which is why it made sense to me that they were not aggressive trading for PG-13. Lebron was still on the Cavs (one full year away from free agency) when Lakers had the window to trade for Paul Geroge. It was not like they already had Lebron in the bag. They made a calculated gamble hoping to sign LBJ and PG-13 in free agency and save all the assets for Davis to form a Big 3. It was a calculated gamble.

This notion that Lebron somehow needs to make the 8th seed to show he knows how to lead a team is idiotic to me. He already lead an inferior team to the championship beating the best regular season team ever.

Potential FA also know that tanking for a top draft pick is better than flaming out in the 1st round of playoffs. Giving fans hope etc etc are just a bunch of pointless radio talking points.

ESPN 710 personalities are so weird. When LBJ decided to come to the Lakers he was the best thing to happen in years, now they are scrutinizing him as if he is the biggest problem.

Just relax. So what if they lose to NY, at this point in time, losing is better than winning... more percentage points for the draft.

With so many injuries and distractions, you can't expect the Lakers to get into the playoffs so where they are at now shouldn't be a surprise, disappointing, probably, but this talk about trading LBJ or the ultimatum that if they don't turn it around next year than this was all a bust is crazy.

Everyone is so used to LBJ going to a team and then that team goes to the Finals but they fail to realize there is more parity now in the NBA... even for teams without superstars. Look at Denver in the west, how are the Clippers or Miami even in the top 8 right now? San Antonio and Brooklyn shouldn't even be in contention. To me those are more anomalies than an injury ridden Lakers team not even getting to .500.

This summer will be interesting and hopefully the Lakers can get something done for the last 3 years of LBJ's contract.

Lakers just let go of Walton....

Rumor: Walton front runner for the Sacramento Kings job.

Fun fact: Vlade (Kings President) and Luke Walton previously played together.
