Irvine: TOO MANY stuck up neighbors!!!

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
<p>I hear that in some neighborhoods you can't even wash your own car on the driveway. Fortunately I have a $29.95/mo unlimited hand car wash that I go to.</p>

<p>Irvine123, you would think that with land being so cheap and available in the 60's, that they can make the streets 2ft wider. Sometimes I wonder that myself. But then again, who would think that SUV's would dominate society.. Also.. inflation, styles, etc.</p>

<p>Seriously tho. You pay IPDO $90k a year starting salary so that they can spend 30 min to look at my car, a car that i wash every 4 days and wax every three months. The amount of dust on the car can probably tell him that its not a car that I store!! :(</p>

<p>No, we pay IPDO 90k a year to put their lives on the line protecting us - to be there when we need help. Sorry, but I just cannot keep my mouth shut when it comes to the salaries of our public servants - they should not be taken for granted - ever. </p>

It wasn't so long ago that a Tustin PD officer got ran over while investigating a traffic collison on the Jamboree Expressway when a looky loo veered over into the blocked lane. Most people figure it isn't dangerous unless you're getting shot at, but there are other dangers that are less obvious.

moving and eva. Thank you for the support. Buylow, whether you believe it or not, police officers have a dangerous job that intertwines with mundane things such as writing parking tickets. Come on out and ride with me some night and we'll see if you go home with your shorts clean. Maybe that will help you understand the salary.

L.A. residents just paid one of their firefighters $1.5m because he was fed some dog food. They really don't take their public servants for granted up there.

<p>Didn't that dog food case have a bit more to it? I am more concerned with the regular yearly salary of police, firefighters, paramedics, etc. than with the aberation. It is in all our best interest to ensure that quality people will continue to go into these professions and the ONLY way to do that is to pay them. And just for the record I am not in any of these professions nor do I have family in them - I just want my children to grow up safe. I do know it is frustrating to get tickets, but I am willing to put up with the inconevenience of a thinly justified parking ticket to know that I have someone to call when the unthinkable happens in my family. </p>

<p>Ok - that's my last post to this thread - take care all. </p>

In high density areas it might be unavoidable to park in front of other homes, but in lower density SFR areas it's really irritating to see someone else's car parked in front of your living room picture window. I say hurray for HOAs that enforce the parking rule. I used to have an idiot neighbor who rented a room to someone who parked his car right in front of my house. One idiot neighbor can really ruin the neighborhood experience.

<p><em>I am more concerned with the regular yearly salary of police, firefighters, paramedics, etc. than with the aberation.</em></p>

<p>I'm not really concerned with their wages. I'm concerned with their time-bomb benefit packages for retirement, the poor management that doesn't address staffing, union work rules that result in massive amounts of over-time, 24 hour continguous work shifts that result in firemen getting paid to sleep in the station in case of a call. etc.</p>

Nude, if one did NOT sign any doc when buying house stating you agree to park your car in the garage, and understand that there will be a fine for parking for more than 72 hours on the street, then I can understand your point.

HOWEVER, if ONE did sign such a doc, then again what is the issue??? It is like signing on y our mortgage paper, then later not wanting to make the agreed payment. WHY DON'T YOU TRY TO PULL SAME THE TRICK AND APPLY THE SAME LOGIC WITH YOUR LANDLORD OR MORTGAGE COMPANY NEXT MONTH, AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!? Even better, why don't you tell you kids tonight that a promise means nothing...and you can walk away from it if you don't like it!

No one point a gun at your head and ask you to sign the document or buy a house in a community with a HOA with such rules.

I do agree with Evalseraphim with regards to safety. I am not too particular with where the neighbors park or how long they have parked their vehicles. But when illegal parked vehicles impede on the visibility of other drivers. Then safety should be taken into consideration.

I can't believe this, 4 cars for one household with a 2 car garage... and you complaining about lack of space, how about lack of garage space, if anyone can park on the street indefinitely, I could start stocking cars on the street for sale... sure we can do whatever we want with our own garage, but we have be sensible here, we take land for granted here, wide streets in residential areas with 50mph posted, that is ridiculous.... large homes where you don;t even see your kids for days.... want a larger driveway?? get builders to market smaller homes hence bigger yard and room for driveway... build up.... shared backyards for conservation green belts... we are in irvine!??! who needs gated communities... gated pools and amenities is more than sufficient.... how can we build neigborhoods with walls everywhere!??! if we knew our neigbors to begin with, we would not have tickets on our windshields ...., as you can tell by now, I'm from the midwest..... granted we have the opportunity for basements there but there are so many good community planning and architectural qualities in old suburban neighborhoods in the midwest that is not marketed here... the setbacks here are plenty for public-semipublic transitions, is HOA a luxury or a added expense? given all the complains , sounds more like an expense that nobody wants, vote to get rid of it, and mow our own lawns.... some having strangers in our yard and you will feel more ownership of your surrounding environment...

my biggest peeve in woodbury is people who park on the section of the curb that juts out at the corners, if you can visualize what i mean. the whole point of that design is to keep people from parking there and blocking visibility around the corners. i would never do it out of fear somebody will ram into my car accidentally but apparently people have no qualms about creating a dangerous situation for others as well as making their own property an easy target for accidents.

i'm not one to nitpick to the police but at some point i just might. i've already had my car get hit on my street (and no note left) TWICE. given that my place has tandem parking, i would sometimes park outside but i still made an effort to park both cars inside when possible and keep my garage clutter-free. so sometimes i broke the rules but if i got fined for it, i can't blame anyone else. it's like when people get ticketed for speeding or even something as seemingly harmless as a slight rolling stop. they get all peeved at the police, their community, and "the system." some rules are meant to be bent, but in the rare occasion it comes back to bite you, oh well... that's how it goes.

i love when people say, "don't the police have something better to do, like solve murders??" yeah, that's what i would love. for the police dept in the town i live in to be so preoccupied with murder cases they can't respond promptly to a citizen's complaint, even if it is just about parking.

<p>acpme, </p>

<p>the section of the curbs stick out at the corner is marked as fire lane, and actually there is a "no parking at all time" sign right at the curve. At least that is what I have in the section of the woodbury I live. IPD will issue tickets for parking there. Trust me! </p>

<p>Also, in regards to those "california rolls", IPD love to catch people for that in Woodbury. They are constantly hiding under the "towers" at the Jeffery entrance and Trabuco entrance. If you live in woodbury, and use those two entrances, make sure you make a complete stop at the stop sign. </p>

<p> </p>

oh that's all good news! i do notice the motorcycle officer at the entrance towers. also in general i've noticed nordic security driving around more often than previously.

<p>Nordic only monitors the private property of Woodbury, ie. playgrounds, pool area, and tennis court. I don't think they can enforce traffic or parking. I was a VP of a gated community in South Orange County for a term, we hired Nordic to enforce parking etc. But legally, it is nearly impossible to enforce the fines issueed by Nordic.</p>

<p> </p>

<p>I must say. That corners at Woodbury prior to the motorcycle cops being there. People just did not stop at the stop signs. Certain drivers just speed towards the stop sign just to beat another driver. I had always thought you're suppose to slow down not speed up to a stop sign. </p>

<p>A few times, some idiot cuts in front of me just to get to the stop sign. Other times I am being tailgated to the stop sign. </p>

<p>After living in Irvine for a while, I can now see why Irvine Police is making such an effort to enforce this. There are too many too many too many asian drivers ( mainly asian women) don't look or stop. It is a daily event at woodbury. </p>
