Homeless camps coming to Irvine

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Note my opinion may differ from other people.

I believe the supervisors have a fiduciary duty to protect the public from a ?potential? health outbreak.

In a hypothetical scenario, people might have to wear masks and gloves if an outbreak occurs.

(Potential means maybe or maybe not might occur)

Family of 4, including children, found dead in van in Garden Grove may have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning

Don't put them all in the same basket. I would have allowed this family to come to an Irvine shelter for help. They didn't deserve to die like this. And to think the local government had $180M+ stashed away.

So sad.  I imagine most people protesting have the same sentiment and would gladly have a place here that helps.  The fear is that the riverbed is coming to the great park.  There is a lot of misinformation and lack of clarity.  Lot of political BS will disappear if there was transparency and none of wheelings and dealings.

These are comments from some of the people:

- There was a secure our borders comment.
- Another comment about Sacramento.
- another comment both democrats and republican fault
- Another comment from a Anaheim resident: shame on you for leaving the homeless in Anaheim, then she talks about Huntington Beach (this is my favorite comment so far)
- congressman rohrabacher talking about sb 54

Attorneys will benefit from this whole situation. Which means tax payers have to foot the bill.

What is at stake here? The homeless problem or the sanctuary city status?

Watching part of the meeting, the same thought came across my mind. Is this for the homeless or a political forum.

I stand corrected, 1200 ppl showed up in 22 buses. Fcbs bringing the heat. Guessing the county will just start building their hotels and retail now.

Just rewatch the meeting online. Then tell me if you call that heat.

Btw - did you go?

Homeless is a bigger "risk" for Irvine because you're introducing a new population (dumping) of deviants, drug use, etc. into a community that currently operates largely without.  Whether Irvine is a "sanctuary" city or not won't move the needle as there likely isn't a large population of illegal aliens living in the city.

I mean...typhus and plagues don't erupt spontaneously.  Typhus and plagues have largely been eradicated in the United States.  I mean Texas is seeing a resurgence in tyhpus...pretty sure that has nothing to do with the homeless population.

You mean like Measles?

Yes...like measles but again...not related to homelessness.

Hepatitis A?

Cholera?

Scabies?

That is the point, measles does basically erupt 'spontaneously' when some carrier introduces it.  It happens regularly.

The Riverbed Tent city, IMHO, isn't a homelessness problem.  The family dying in the Van is a homelessness problem from lack of affordable housing.

The van family wasn't in tentville or a shelter for a reason.

Cholera and plague are far different.  Cholera is largely a lack of clean water issue and plaque don't travel well.

But I agree that the issue is not about "homelessness" per se...lack of affordable housing is a critical issue in California.
