What's funny is all these comments like it was a surprise. We all knew it was going to happen.

A surprise would have been "Steve Balmer leaves Microsoft to become new CEO of Apple".

Maybe AAPL will be affordable again... I'll buy it from all those people who think it will be worthless.

the surprise is that its effective immediately.  most succession plans announce new CEO and say they will transition over next 6 months etc.  the immediate language comes in when CEO is ousted or leaves

Tim Cook has been the interim CEO since Jobs has officially been on medical leave for most of 2011.

You can actually say it's been a 7 year transition as Cook took over in 2004 and then multiple times whenever Jobs had medical issues.

Sadly, this may indicate a turn of things for the worse in regards to his health although I find it interesting that Jobs wants to remain involved as Chairman of the Board.

I do think Jobs has been mostly a figure-head these last few years and Apple will be fine with Cook in charge.

I was researching how the dual boot Viewsonic Viewpad works yesterday?

Not too shabby... I say for $199...  Boy oh.. Boy... the tablet Market is VERY hungry for Ipads business!  Good Luck Steve...!

Reports also say that VZW is getting a Galaxy-esque phone... Sammie makes so many phones and variations it's hard to keep track.

You can probably also go to Sprint (still unlimited data) or T-Mobile... supposedly they'll get iPhone 5s and G2s.

Well...the Nexus Prime is going to be a Galaxy S2 Level phone...Samsung has released a 4G/LTE version of the S2 in SK but the frequencies are a little different from the US.

Just saw this...seems like a silly explanation.

"We have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge," Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said.

Verizon is probably passing on the Galaxy S2 as its plate is full. Speculation suggests that Verizon will launch Motorola Droid Bionic, which has similar specifications as Galaxy S2 and support for Verizon's 4G LTE network, in early September.

Got my OTA update on the TF yesterday morning... downloaded the Netflix APK (v246 for the XOOM thanks to someone on XDA) since it's not in the Market yet and watched some IP Man 2 last night (where is Panda?).
I think I have to go back to school to learn tech speak.
Oh c'mon... that's not reallly tech speak:

OTA: Over the Air
TF: Transformer
APK: Application Package File
XDA: Short for xda-developers.com, a site for mobile enthusiasts and developers who create custom roms, apps, roots, jbs (ie hacks) for mobile devices. Named after a 02-branded PDA called XDA that ran Windows Mobile on an HTC device (had to Wiki that)
IP Man 2: The sequel to IP Man, a movie about a Wing Chun (chinese martial arts) master who eventually was Bruce Lee's master
Panda: Former Irvine lover who now resides in the Dirty South with his twin bears, Eddie and Tom-Tom.

so i finally watched Ip Man - it kept coming up in my netflix recommended movies and i kept skipping it as i thought ip man = internet protocol man = movie about hacker or some scifi movie

man i am glad you guys mentioned it here cause it was thoroughly enjoyable!

Because were not fan boyz... just remember, Apple may have not been the first, but they seem to always be the one to blow open certain markets:

Graphical user interface
Digital music
MP3 players
Capacitive Touch Smartphones
Tablets
Ultrathin notebooks

And the funny thing is... I'm sort of anti-Apple. I prefer Windows and don't really like the closed environment of Apple's products... but I can appreciate the "innovation" they bring to non-techies. Remember their 1984 commercial? It's a bit ironic because it's like they are now the Big Brother.

This sums it up perfectly.  Jobs/Apple has certainly revolutionized the industry in the past 10 years.  But the closed-OS and stubborn refusal to incorporate certain technology (i.e. Flash) annoys me.  Also, Apple is one of the worst offenders/aggressors of the patent war that is holding up innovation.

ok.. people... what happened to my sentimental moment....!

Here I hope this will help...  still one of my favorite commercials... :'(

You can lead sentiment with a subtle insult.... you Fandroid.

@irvinecommuter:

About Flash, I actually understand Apple's exclusion of it for a variety of reasons. The most obvious of course is to limit outside content in their ecosystem and quite frankly, I can't blame them, that's why they are able to monetize the App Store better than Android. HTML5 (Starlight: that's an application capable web standard) may break that handcuff... but it doesn't have enough traction yet (there is an HTML5 App Store called OpenAppMkt and Amazon is moving to HTML5 to bypass Apple's restrictions).

But there are other reasons such as security (how many times does your Flash get updated because of some security threat), CPU load (Flash eats up processing time) and battery life. The last one is very significant because I don't think Flash was optimized for a mobile environment. On a desktop, with multiple fans and being plugged in all the time... Flash has nothing to worry about... but on low power consumption devices like tablets and phones... you see the difference. Has anyone notice how all these flash-enabled tablets have a lower battery life than an iPad2... and they have larger battery capacities?

For those who use iOS, do you really even miss the Flash content? I have it set as "Click to Load" on my tablet and most of the stuff out there is ads or games (which Android usually has some free Market version of).

@irvinehomeowner

I understand the drawbacks of flash but it's a key component of many major websites.  To not have the option to even handle flash is more of a corporate decision rather than a technical one.  Androids give you the option to disable flash if you don't like it.  Apple should do the same.

I know there are a lot of lurking church goers here... it's good to see smartphone devies and tablets being incorporated into the Sunday experience.  I see it both here in LA and OC and I'm not just talking about young kids being handed iphones to play games in the corner while the parents socialize... even from a pastoral level; they are slowly and smoothly transitioning the use tablets/smartphone to read and teach from the pulpit.

I see increasing numbers of church goers use their own smartphones and tablets to read along in their bible and to take notes.  Although it might be a bit distracting at times; as I see from the corner of my eye the subtle glows of the tablets, that line the dimly lit pews of newsong's club like atmosphere.

Some larger mega-churches we visit are cutting back on printing weekly bullitens; and opting for members to simply download the pdf.  Paying for the next church activity is easily done online now; even paying each other is as easy as sending an email or holding up the phones together for a NFC transfer.  Over 50% of congregants tithe with an automatic withdraw.  The three churches that come to mind both have their own iphone/android apps, and I do take advantage of it constantly.  Most larger churches provide great childcare, coffee and doughnuts; and now along with WiFi our Sunday mornings just got even better...

I agree with you about Amazon... to a certain point.

I believe the Nook Color is one of the best selling Android tablets and it's not even running full Android out of the box... so something like that from Amazon will surely sell quite well.

But they have a long way to go to surpass iPad market share. They will probably own the hybrid e-reader/tablet universe... if B&N doesn't keep itself competitive with a Nook Color 2.

I think I'm going to pass over the Sammy 8.9 and see what the 7.7 is like.

IHO you called it...  I won't be surprised if they keep doing this... if it continues to sell well... although seems the price might be a bit higher this time..

The Amazon Tablet will have to be EVERYTHING to everybody to capture that much market share... the price would have to be Touchpad Range... and a hybrid of Amazon's Cloud MP3 & Ecosystem & regular Android Market...  easily rootable & hackable, fast & easy to use...

There is already a Kindle app for ipads, so they won't be that motivated to switch...

Woman Buys a Block of Wood with an Apple Logo Thinking It?s an iPadhttp://gawker.com/5835890/woman-buy...-apple-logo-thinking-its-an-ipad?popular=true

"The spectacularly stupid Ashley McDowell was approached by two men in a McDonald's parking lot where they offered to sell her an iPad for $300. She only had $180, but they gave it to her anyway. When she got home, she found out it was really just a block of wood with an Apple logo painted on the back."
