I'm a big LCD fan.. .especially if you leave your TV on a long time (no burn-ins) It's also much lighter and uses up less power.

You should buy something that will last you for the next few years. That means 1080p and as many connections as you can get. However, 1080 is only available for the bigger TVs.

I like the Sony Bravia, Sharp Aquos, and the Samsungs. . . more expensive than others but I think it's worth it.

<p>I was looking at the Sony Bravia at Costco... you think it's good?</p>

<p>I think they had issues with the previous models only having 1 HDMI... but the newest model I believe has 2...</p>

<p>What do you think is the projected life expectancy with leaving it on about 16 hours per day??? A lot I know... ok, don't laugh... I leave it on during the day for my bird!</p>

<p> </p>

Yes, most likely it will move into the bedroom when I purchase my <em>eventual house.</em> I'll probably purchase a 52" for the main room when I buy a house... and move this 46".

Multiple HDMI inputs are nice, but many people use their audio receiver as a control center; The newest ones have HDMI switching capability. This allows you to select video sources at the same time as audio. In this case, one HDMI input on the set is probably enough.

<p>It should be a good bedroom TV in the long run and a good enough main TV for now. LCD sets are supposedly long-life. But really, if you expect anything to last for years running 16 hours a day invest in the extended warranty packages ;)</p>

<p> </p>

Girl. . . LCDs don't have half-life but individual LC (liquid crystals) may go down . . . You can look up the expect life time for individual tvs online but I would expect about 7-10 years for a good LCD TV.

I like Costco but they usually do not have the latest versions. . . For example, I think the Bravia they're selling is still last year's model (BR2 v. BR3) The Bravia is nice but slightly overrpriced as compared to the Aquos. I think you get more value with the Aquos but the Bravia is slightly better. The new Samsungs are really good but they're also a little more expensive. Not sure if they're available at Costco.

All due respect to VIzio, I have heard problems with their TVs. . .

This is a very reasonable overview of Plasmas vs LCD's.

<p>There's a great article on this in the NY Times this morning, "If There’s a High-Definition TV in Your Future, Wait Till After the Holidays "</p>

<p><img height="126" alt="Falling Prices" width="190" border="0" src="http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/08/25/business/25tele.graphic.190.gif" /></p>

<p>Sorry, hard t read. Maybe this?</p>

<p><img height="562" alt="Falling Prices" width="645" src="http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/08/25/business/25tele.650.gif" /></p>

<p>Ok everyone! I FINALLY bought my two new TV's and got an AMAZING price on them... so, of course I am very happy ;-)</p>

<p>I purchased the Sharp Aquos LCD LC52D64U 52" for $1800.00 (Family room TV) & the Sharp Aquous LCD LC42D64U 42" for $1000.00 (Bedroom TV) Models just released in August (Charged for tax, but no shipping charges).</p>

<p>Got my delivery confirmation... they will arrive around the first week in October!</p>

<p>So, now to my most recent delimma, I need a good quality wall mount for the 52" and would prefer one as close to the wall as possible. At the stores, they are very expensive.... but, I noticed many very cheap on eBay... but could be very cheap qualitiy as well.... last thing I need is a 52" TV falling off the wall!</p>

<p>Also, what do you guys know about installation companies? Any good ones? Any to stay away from?</p>

<p>Everyone on here is awesome! Thanks for all the input and helping a girl out!</p>

<p> </p>

<p>I don't know about the Ebay TV mounts but they could be OK. Do you have a link? The TV mounts in the stores are expensive but there should be another source for them. </p>

<p>I wouldn't trust a "installation" company and they probably charge too much. I think you might be able to find someone around here that could do it right and not charge you. Also keep in mind that when you leave your apartment they will charge you for the repairs to the wall. You might want to get someone who is willing to come back and clean up the drywall as if nothing ever happened.</p>

<p>The second one is only 1" from the wall... but it doesn't list the Sharp as a compatible TV... so, not sure if it would work... It's made for Philips.</p>

<p> </p>

<p>ns2524,</p>

<p>No typo on the price... I got in on an employee discount promotion. It's good to know people, who know people who work at Sharp! ;-)</p>

<p>GITOC</p>

Honestly it looks like either on one of those would work. It is a fairly basic concept. I have to go to Home Depot in a litlle bit so I will stop by and see if something could be made vs. buying something. The one thing you will have to do because of the weight is make sure that the mount is mounted into the stud. The one link showed the drywall screws and that would not support it.
