Cool gift.  I've been thinking about getting my gf a radar detector because she drives faster than I do.  ???  :-\

You are the standard of measure? ;)

Nice gift ps9. People, please add all gift ideas to this thread.. To the children, parents, second removed cousins, teachers, friends. Neighbors? I usually load up on Costco chocolates and add an Amazon gift card for anyone other than family. Would love to jazz it up a bit this year. Personalized gifts anyone?

I went a little overboard, but according to husband, the best gift ever was.. A dozen new Tommy Bahamas watches in a black leather watch box. He told me he didn't want a watch above $300, but didn't put a limit on number of watches ;) For kids' friends, bought angry birds backpack clips from Amazon last year - all of them still use the clips. Received - I think I am too easy to please. Something sweet, something shiny or something to write from - done! Best gift I have ever received is a sandalwood pen. I still use it to sign at all important places.

Last year, I gave my husband a red-headed girlfriend for Christmas. He loved it. However, I'm struggling to come up with something more innovative now that Ginger went home (i.e. I returned to the salon.)

My ultimate idea: If money was no object, I'd dial up the Russians and give Mr. SoCal a round-trip ticket to space. As a former Boeing rocket scientist, he should enjoy the $20M surprise. I'll be keeping this idea filed away for future reference.

I do have one idea up my sleeve but will save it for something more memorable - a tree dedication ceremony at our local park made possible by our city. That's better for an anniversary or something.

Need more ideas.

What do I get the techy geek / software engineer / Star Trek fan / computer game lover who has everything??
We already have plenty of Star Trek tree ornaments. Yeah, you heard me.  ::)

It's a bit long but one of my favorite episodes of BBT.

Hmm.

"Healthy ovum": Check
Leonard Nimoy DNA: To be determined

He is still alive. This could work...

Books are always a welcome gift.  Upgrades to the home computer, or software could be of interest too.  Does Mr. SoCal have any interest in developing for mobile devices?

Why, yes. He is interested in developing for mobile devices. Any suggestions?? He's mentioned using an Android "SDK" (whatever that is) and he has a Galaxy Nexus (whatever that is, too) at work for development purposes. As you can see, this goes way over my head. Any ideas are welcome.

I have been known to have a heavy gas pedal foot.  :-X

PM me if you want, but what is your budget?

SDK = Software Development Kit - software that developers use to develop applications.  The base android SDK is free,  but books on the subject would probably be well received.  If he wants to do something commercial and wants a cross platform development tool,  Sencha Touch is interesting (in conjunction with phonegap), but may be a bit beyond your budget.

for geeks usually anything from bigbadtoystore.com is always a godsend

if all else fails u can always just buy a uniform for the "after bedtime" christmas lol  :-[

If he is into all those geeky Ts, try coming up with your own kind on Cafepress.
OK boys, since you are all being so nice to SoCal and giving her ideas, throw some ideas here too.. I have multiple gifting occasions lined up.

Here is a quick profile:
Getting back to running after surgery, asics gel shoes didn't help.
Hiker/ ex-trail runner.
Ex-biker, bike needs tune up, or a replacement.
Geek. Android lover. Linux-ed one of the computers at home and tries to convert the rest of us.
Reads books about war/ marines.. last one read was no easy way.
Has lost a couple of inches, is rebuilding wardrobe.
Loves those crazy watches that show multiple times, heart beat and pulse and lot of unnecessary information.

I would love to bring in a Lexus and open the garage next morning to show the gift, but no, I think I will save the marriage and keep it low key.

I think it's hard to control when you ride a car like that. Thank goodness you are in Irvine, not stuck in old cities with twenty-five zones.

Ginger was cute:-) Do you surprise Mr.SoCal with such things, or prepare the boy for the shocker?
