But you got to love that Culver smart signal light action... I went non stop from the 405 to Scottsdale just above Culver without a red light the other day... actually done that a number of times.

Except when people drive too slow.  They synchronized the lights based on the speed limit.  Then you have these idiots driving 40mph on 50 or 55 mph zone and messes everyone up.

Also, it doesn't happen during the morning commute.  Since most of the middle or high schools are near Culver, the students crossing Culver to go to school disrupts the synchronized lights since the crossing streets stay green longer to let the kids cross Culver safely.

But during other times, I love the synchronized lights.  The city of Irvine actually does a good job of keeping major streets flowing along.  Try going 5 miles through Garden Grove Blvd or Westminster Ave and you will see how bad the traffic on a major street can get.

Hint for smart signal optimization:

If the person in front of you is wearing one of these:

This morning I dropped off my son at his elementary school in Woodbridge as usual.  I paid a closer attention to why I feel crowded when I go to Woodbridge and figured it out.  The SFR neighborhood that I drive through has many houses with 1/2 deep or no driveway while some have full driveway.  They even have 3 car garage with half or no driveway!!  So the garages are right next to the street.  The street is filled with cars including many in front of the no driveway.  Some park their car on the 1/2 driveway with the rear end sticking out to the street.  And, these are BIG houses that go for $800K+.  It feels almost claustrophobic to drive through that street.I think Westpark has houses with no driveway on regular streets also.
Woodbury keeps all no driveway SFR (detached condos) on an alley so you would not drive through them unless you are going to your own garage.  In that sense, I don't feel crowded when I drive through Woodbury.

In the end, I think it's the number of the apartments that skews the density number.  The SFR section feels the same as any other SFR section of Irvine.
As long as I don't venture into the apartment sections of the village, I guess I will not feel the density.  Except for a very hot day around the pool.

Speaking of traffic--WTF is going on at the District? What genius decided to put a new stop sign on Park Ave near the entrance of the Costco gas station? The traffic really backs up back all the way to Lucille BBQ. I think it will be faster for me to access Jamboree via Barranca or Tustin Ranch Rd.

That's because we (oops, I mean "they") took everything that was learned building older Villages and applied it to Walkable WoodburyTM, making it the most highly acclaimed and award-winning of the Villages of Irvine.

Wow, nice marketing photo of WB. Too bad it only looks like that 1 week out of the year.

Obviously the same genius who designed the entire place.  As much as I hate the Irvine Company, they would never have come up with such a convoluted configuration.

The one thing Irvine does well is to make decent shopping centers with adequate parking.

So the streets around Columbus Square are less trafficky?

I think Columbus Square is dense too... and getting into the District is a nightmare... but unlike WB, at least they have a Costco, Target and Best Buy close by.

Right, 'cause The Market Place is oh so far for WB residents.  :D

That's farther from WB than The District is from CS distancewise... but it probably takes much more time getting in and out of that maze than the Marketplace.

(Costco and  Target in the Spectrum are probably a quicker choice than the Marketplace from WB)

Spectrum is  heck of a lot more crowded, though, compared to Marketplace.

Are you comparing Costcos? I find the Spectrum Costco less crowded than the Tustin Ranch one and easier to find parking.

And parking at either Spectrum Target or Marketplace Target is the same.

How many times have you driven to/parked at the various Costcos/Targets around Irvine?

But the District is still much closer to Columbus Square than either Marketplace or Spectrum to Woodbury... but so is the train track and the flight path of John Wayne Airport (let's see test spin that).

I was actually comparing the two centers as a whole.  Spectrum as a whole is more crowded than Marketplace, and most of the time, I've found it harder to find parking at the Spectrum.  The Marketplace has ample parking wherever you are.

The two Costcos, Tustin Ranch, and Irvine, are both not part of the Marketplace or the Spectrum, so those two stores were actually not part of my reply.  When comparing the two, I also agree that the Costco on Technology is less crowded with easier to find parking, AND, they have gas, unlike Tustin Ranch.  The Costco Gas at The District has terribly long waiting lines at the pump.

Apples vs oranges.  Columbus Square and Woodbury are polar opposites in design philosophy.  Someone interested in Woodbury would not be interested in Columbus Square.

You got that right.

Correct.  Woodbury is a jumbled mess of 5,000 homes that will surrounded by another 5,000 homes to the north, 5,000 homes to the east, 5,000 homes to the south, 5,000 homes to the west.  Columbus Square has 1,000 homes that will be surrounded by places to work, play, shop, dine.

So no other homes surround Columbus Square? Did someone bulldoze Columbus Grove, Westpark II, Tustin Fields and Tustin Meadows?

And the rest of Tustin Legacy will NEVER be built out?

You're probably going to say John Wayne Airport is closing and that trains are not going to run by Edinger anymore.
