WHAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ABOUT IRVINE! CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
To give you a sense of how things look around here: I?m white, my wife is Chinese. Our three best ?couple? friends are: 1) White wife, Chinese husband, 2) Korean couple, and 3) Vietnamese wife, African-American husband. And I never even think about it, until your question made me think.

Personally, I can think of nowhere I would rather live.

CK, if what you are telling me is true, Irvine is definitely my kind of place. For some reason reading some posts in IHB, I had an impression that ethnic groups were sort of divided in Irvine. That is why i posted this question.

Here is how I think of it, Panda -- Irvine will be exactly what you make of it. Everywhere you turn there are opportunities to interact with every culture you can imagine. Put yourself out there and be open to new people and new experiences, and they will respond. Isolate in your comfort zone, and that will be your experience.

As a note, I didn't mention the countless Asian girlfriends my wife has from her UCI days who hang out together at Tea Station or South Coast Plaza, or the "dudes" I drink beer and watch sports with from my Manhattan Beach days. So its not all diverse friends....but you have different people in your life to fill different needs....

Holy crap... I've been too busy to read any of this thread and just got caught up. Friggin' WWIII craziness. Not enough housing-related stuff so I'm glad work was calling louder than usual.

Panda rappin:

"I like big LOTS and I can not lie

When a 2500 Square Feet House is built in a itty bitty LOT

with a BIG WTF Asking Prices in your Face."

Panda says, ?What are these builders smokin???

More like confusing on the outside and apparently unsure of your racial identity. That's cool though... I think you said you grew up in The South didn't you? Whereabout? You might be my slightly whacky alter ego. I'm a half-breed asian born and raised (until junior high) in the Deep South myself.

IPOP,

Growing up in the south is the only fact that was not true about myself. All other statements I've made, is the "REAL" me. I knew that couple of my socal friends and brother-in-law reads this forum so mentioning that i was from the south would hide Panda's identity. I actually grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago called Barrington. My high school was literally 99% white. Even among the 1% of the asians in my high school, the kids drove around ford mustangs and only dated white girls, therefore acting like they are white.

Right after college I worked for one of the big four consulting companies in SF and LA. That is when i discovered Irvine and immediately fell in love with the area. I was 22 back then.

As I mentioned to you before, back in 2003 when I had cold feet about purchasing the A2 plan of Casalon in QH and missed that opportunity, I saw that the prices for Irvine homes were just sky rocketing to the roof. Sadly, I had to face the fact that I was priced out and that I would have to give up my dreams of moving to Irvine. Shortly after that incident, I invested in a nice 3800 sq/ft SFR in Duluth, GA to move there and start a family with my wife. Obviously Duluth was second place to me compared to Irvine, but there are so many similarities between the two places. The house i invested there is in the Northview High School district, and the demographics (asians/white) and ranking is so close to that of Uni High and Northwood High. So Duluth, Georgia would of been my second choice to live had I been priced out of Irvine. I was seriously ready to pack and move to Duluth, GA in 2006 and suddenly I noticed that the prices in Irvine finally peaked and started to head south. That is when i found hope that the dream i once gave up on can eventually come true for me. I know it is sad, but for almost 10 years my dream has been to start a family and own my own business in Irvine. Even if I ever become a billionaire, I will not move to Newport Coast. I will remain in Irvine.

One of things that my father told me when i was little is that "success is when an opportunity presents itself and you are ready to take advantage of that opportunity." This time around, I am so ready.

I feel like we need to have a party for Panda when he buys his Irvine house.

Just tell us when to start chilling the champagne, Panda.

:-)

Dude, Duluth is like 12-15% asian and Northview High School itself is 60+% white. For GA, that is probably asian-central, but probably more like AV in terms of racial demographics. Nice suburban area though...

I just laughed so hard I almost fell off the couch.

I thought you got your nickname because of your black eye looking like a panda. Your classmate punched you for asking too many questions.

I swear, I have never hit a panda.

Panda only accidentally ran into your fist. He was not paying attention because he was dreaming of Irvine.

"You know a funny thing happened to me last week. I had no idea that Trooper was a 'Woman'. "

I was so embarassed when I made the same assumption because she loves watching football and she is a cop. Her pink avatar should have hinted you. You were probably thinking Reno 911.

I also made another mistake years ago when a nurse who loved knitting turned out to be a man.
