NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

I pulled this one up.  Not sure if it says you can't do it within 75 miles.. but it does say they want to service every 75 miles.

VA seeks to provide the service of a Veterans cemetery within 75 miles of 90 percent of the Veterans across the country. Data shows that a 75-mile radius defines the effective ?service area? of a Veterans cemetery.

Pulled this up from where? You are either being deceptive or ignorant, or both. Do your homework. Google VA Cemetery Grants. See what is says about state veterans cemeteries. All your answers are there, facts for all to see.

geeeez.. angry much?

Scope of the Program

The Veterans Cemetery Grants Program is intended to complement the service provided by the VA?s system of Veterans cemeteries operated by the National Cemetery Administration.
VA seeks to provide the service of a Veterans cemetery within 75 miles of 90 percent of the Veterans across the country. Data shows that a 75-mile radius defines the effective ?service area? of a Veterans cemetery.
Since 1973, VA has opened many new cemeteries, primarily in large metropolitan areas where Veterans previously had no effective service. VA also works to expand existing national cemeteries to maintain current service. VA has more than doubled the acreage available in federal Veterans cemeteries since 1973 and the burial rate at these cemeteries has also increased by more than 100 percent.
Smaller cities and rural areas located beyond the 75-mile service areas of these existing national cemeteries are ideal locations for state, territory, or tribal government Veterans cemeteries.

So was this the secret plan of the City Council? Approve the original site knowing full well it would be financially impossible. Going through the whole grant process eats up valuable time, allowing Irvine to kick the can down the road. The vets will have to start the whole process yet again if they switch sites.

Ouch, that's a lot of Fed money, looking at the previous year, I don't see any projects with that high of a grant awarded.  If I'm reading that memo right, the highest amount was only $11 million.  So even if they get the grant, we still have to pony up $38 million?  Good luck.

Yup, not gonna happen.  Irvine is asking for $38 M when the feds only have $50 M to spend on all the cemeteries nationwide.  Plus, this is just the "initial" cost.  The final price tag must be astronomical.

The switch ain't gonna happen either.  Haddad can now have his cake and eat it too.  He has no incentive to put it back on the table.  In retrospect,  it's surprising he would even offer it up in the first place knowing that the original cemetery was a financial impossibility...  unless it was a PR move and he was in bed with Krom all along.

This cemetery drama is like a slow burn soap opera that will take years to resolve.
Markets hate uncertainty, so great park prices are going to suffer for it.

It's probably why the swap was introduced in the first place.  For stability.

Surprise, surprise, surprise!
Feds have approved application for a $10M phase 1 grant in FY2017. Check Irvine's website for the letter.
Irvine has funds, see: http://www.latimes.com/tn-dpt-me-0913-rda-settlement-20140912-story.html  Will the council (Irvine the "vet friendly city') go cheap on the vets and not cut off a fraction of their windfall $292M RDA package to turn ARDA (right there next to the new high school!) into the centerpiece feature of the 'OC great park'?
All the reasons (April 12 Council Meeting) for "staying the course" have been debunked. Now perhaps they should actually take a look at the site move offer. They'd be fools not to. But then ....
Election season is here. Gang for mayor anyone?

Do your homework, Our Gang!

The grant wasn't "approved", but rather the "pre-application" was accepted for the next round of consideration (but only after the initial request for $38M was marked down to a maximum of $10M).

So it looks like the person not supporting a land swap is Mary Ann Gaido?

Wager clearly supports it, but it looks like the application process for the current land is already done. The idea is to cancel the current application and start the entire process again, all the while 5P would get a land swap and build more homes?

What's the end of the road here? It's amazing the greed out there.

Why didn't you all listen to me? I assured all those who bought Ellwood who contacted me not to worry about the cemetery. Sounded like someone might have defaulted on the monthly payment.
