It's funny you say that. I've never seen less parental involvement than when we were at IUSD schools (2 of them). Having lived in 3 different areas to compare, I notice Irvine mainly has double wage earners without the time to commit to classroom involvement. In the I.E. and here in south O.C., many families choose to make 1 parent a full-time, at-home parent who commits regularly to their child's activities. I noticed this sentiment was also expressed by the principal in one of our school newsletters. Go ahead and get all "micro" on me about how I must be "confused" because you want to be right, but I'm not going to argue the point which is that's just what myself and others have noticed. I'm sure there are cultural differences that matter like teaching the child to have respect for their teacher. The point about parental involvement is really just a laugh to me, though.
I must be on the wrong school then Almost every mother volunteers everyday.. If I ever want to, I have to ask the teacher's permission because we don't want to crowd it up. (I don't volunteer at all, that's a different story.. I can't tolerate so many of them at one time. Kind of like alien invasion- they multiply!)
Parental involvement might also mean: taking children to Math/Language/ Music classes and front loading them so that the teacher has it easy in the class?
