Poe was last year's liar... this year it was Matt Farmer, the one who claimed he was rendered sterile by combat damage and that his daughter was a miracle baby. I remember that audition and thought it was bogus he brought his daughter into the audition since his wife was outside and she could watch her:

ht_american_idol_matthew_farmer_thg_130204_wblog.jpg

LIES... ALL LIES!

I don't even think he made it to Hollywood as I don't remember seeing him.

Spoiler:

The nerve damaged guy was eliminated in the singles round after group... I don't know why since he sounded really good to me.

Typo: Yes, I meant to say Matthew Farmer. Poe was from a different show altogether - America's Got Talent.

It's funny how in that article I linked to, he says he's a habitual liar!

Iho, just like you, I also thought it was suspicious he took his daughter inside. Usually only the single parents do that when they don't have someone there supporting them / watch the child for them.

I got caught up on A.I. this weekend.

I totally agree with Nicki about that short guy - Matheus Fernandes - coming across as having a pity party. I think you really only get to play that card once or twice before it becomes pathetic (sorry.) It wasn't his limitations that made him that way - it's his attitude. Obviously, he is very insecure about his physical appearance and it meant a lot to him to get as far as he did. I'm sure he wasn't trying to be aggravating. He was genuinely touched to have made it and eager to continue. He just doesn't know when. to. stop. Enough with the constant self-deprecating remarks, enough with the tears. Move on. Need a guy with some confidence.

I caught "Flipping Vegas" for the first time over the weekend.

I was kind of shocked to see there is now a show based on this theme. There is a lot of buzz lately about flipping in Vegas, specifically. Uh-hem. I think most of us here know someone who does it. Also, When I went to the spa last week, I overheard a conversation about it, that person was getting into it and their friends, too. It's become the "thing" to do, apparently.

Anyway, the investor talks his tradesman down to half what he quoted for the job, complaining he'll blow his budget by a grand. The team agrees but is totally demoralized and it shows in their work.** When all is said and done, the man goes and buys himself a hot new Porsche while hoping it doesn't cause a bad vibe when he shows up to the job site in it. Um. Think again.

**When the episode started, I told my husband this guy is going to be sorry. I don't know about you guys, but I personally save negotiations for goods rather than services. If you want something done on time and done well, offer a Completion Bonus.

About Matheus, he was actually on the first season of The Glee Project, a "reality" show where the winner becomes a part of the Glee TV show.

He was really whiny on it and his singing was subpar... so when we saw him in the AI auditions, we knew he wasn't going to make it past Hollywood.

The singing show we really like was The Sing Off... the group acappella contest.

Wow, I didn't know he was already on another audition type of show.

I know the rules say something about the contestants only being eligible if they are not under contract but I think it kinda sucks when they had a former record deal or were a contestant on another major show like Matheus, etc. Imo, it's more enjoyable when it's Joe Blow, a no-name car mechanic from Des Moines auditioning instead of someone who has already had their shot or even their full 15 minutes of fame already. I don't like how they let previous Hollywood-round winners back on the show. I forget what round the cut-off is, but the better singers who made it further can't come back, so why allow the singers who were not as good? Makes no sense to me. I say: NEXT!

Anyone watching House of Cards on Netflix?

Yes, quite addictive. I watched all episodes in one week and give it 4 out of 5 stars. Not big enough in scope to deserve 5 stars; it's not like millions of people's lives are at stake.

By the way, Netflix is the only way I am watching TV shows from now on. Love to be able to finish a whole season without waiting forever for the next episode.

Halfway through, and loving it! Netflix is the way to go- they are available to watch when you are. I watched Rome when all seasons were available, same with Lost.
Damages comes up as a recommendation- thinking of giving it a try after I am done with House of Cards.

Did anyone besides me watch the Catfish reunion show the other night?

I felt bad for Lee. If you haven't seen it, he was catfishing a stripper by the name of "Trina the Natural". He was pretending to be this dude, "Scorpio" - a fellow stripper. Trina was all in lurve with Scorpio. They totally hit it off. Until they met. Scorpio was really Lee. Lee is a festively plump kind of guy with a really good attitude and personality. He was sorry for what he'd done but she was not having it. She kept saying it's not about the looks, it's about the deception. No. It's about the looks... because when they got the real Scorpio on the phone during the reunion show, she was all giggles and falling all over herself. The look on poor Lee's face. Man. Anyway, nothing wrong with not being attracted to someone but she could be a little more honest about it rather than lying that it's about the principal of the thing. Trina just doesn't want to compromise, period. Her loss. Scorpio said she was beautiful but didn't seem all that into her.

Who's watching American Idol?

I don't understand Nicki's fascination with Zonette.

Truth be told: She kind of scares me. It's something about her presence I find intimidating / off-putting. Wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley...

Iho, do you like Zonette?

It's got to be a pure ratings catch... she won't make it to the final 10... she is horrible. She says she's 20 years old? I don't believe it. There were at least 3 girls this week who should have been in over her.

This week's men were better than last week but that's bad because some of the good ones this week didn't make it while mediocre ones last week did. The guy who sang New York State of Mind, Bryant,  was much better than half the guys last week (and some of the guys who made it this week)... I don't know what the judged were thinking but his performance was much better than they said.

And I have no idea where Nicki is coming from... seems like she is just looking for gimmicky or interesting looking people instead of ones with actual singing talent. Her critiques and the way she uses different accents while judging are a big turn off. I had liked her in the beginning but now that it's down to the real talent, I really question her ability to judge uniformly.

The judging as a whole is very inconsistent this year too... seems like they are playing favorites.

Zonette should have not even made it to Hollywood.

I finished House of Cards, went to the British version, but it wasn't very engaging. Movie is on the list next :)

Well-put, Iho.

I'm lagging one and a half episodes behind but hope to get caught up soon. I wonder who will make the top 10 girls.

I liked the lady who sang the Jazmine Sullivan song. Can't remember her name. Thanks, A.I. for the ear worm. I haven't stopped singing "Bust Your Windows" everywhere I go since that episode aired.  :)

So far, if I had to pick 1 male and 1 female favorite they would be:

Kree Harrison
&
Curtis Finch, Jr.

I have a friend who just posted on Facebook that she is sitting at a McDonald's right now being treated to quite the half-time show. A super awkward first time off the internet date is happening right next to her. She is eavesdropping so hard she might fall out of her chair. Another friend commented that she had one recently and it went down in flames.

Meeting on the internet is nothing new but until the show Catfish premiered, I never truly appreciated just how commonplace it seems to be! Not that those two couples mentioned above were being deceitful, necessarily. I guess it just blows my mind. Prior to Catfish, I assumed these types of dates were a one-off. A total novelty. It still seems soooooo "weird" to me.

Regarding a McDonald's date... I thought you could only get away with that one after you were married.

After reading Iho's story about the couple at Denny's and this couple at McD's, it's become my dying wish to see an internet blind date happen in front of me. If I should ever be so lucky, I'll come here and post a play-by-play! *Crossing fingers*

Will anybody here admit to having been on one of these internet dates? If so, what was it like?? Details, please. I guess it's not really accurate to call it a "blind" date since you already "know" each other.

We probably don't have that many recently-single people here on T.I. I think all of us have been in relationships since the last millennium before the internet really took off or met more recently but in person, the normal way.

Re: McDonald's Internet Date

She just posted new updates!

They did Catfish each other! They both found out the other was unemployed. On the internet, they both said they were working. Ha!

As the lady left to use the restroom, the guy burped and farted so loud my friend thought the window was going to rattle. Lucky gal.

Now she has returned to the table. They both seem super eager and like each other. They seem like a good match. Yay. McChickens for everyone!

Chewed through the entire Arrested Development series on Netflix. It's a real treat to watch commercial free. Surprising how funny the show was. Can't wait for May when Netflix rolls out new episodes.

I'll confess here and now that our family also really enjoys "Adventure Time" - yes, the animated show on Cartoon Network. It's a DVR must in the Soylent Green household. This Monday's episode has to be 15 minutes of the most absurdist, peyote fueled, surrrealism aired on U.S. commercial television ever. 'm sure the corporate drones who greenlit this show are sitting back wondering what they got themselves into.

SGIP

My kids like Adventure Time too... but I think it's a bit much for them.

I always hear about Arrested Development but not compelled enough to watch it. Now that it's on Netflix, maybe I'll give it a looksie.

I want to give Arrested Development a try too. Been hearing a lot of good things about it.
Anyone watching State within or Damages? Have both on my list, don't know which one I try first.
