The District is one of the most poorly designed shopping centers ever.  I feel bad for those shops near the movie theater.

Agree. Wish they would move the whole foods to somewhere in irvine. Bc let's be honest. The Hispanics of Columbus whatever isn't shopping there.

fixed that.

Whole Foods is a haven for dumpster diving! That is where you will see Qwerty and his people.

"The southern hangar could be part of a central entertainment area called The District, which would include a hotel, lake and amphitheater."

Lake Tustin Coming Soon!

ill just take my bat with me, also known as the cougar tamer.

I know some people like the hangars and think it preserves the history of the area, but personally I think they're eyesores because of their immense size.  If I lived there, it would remind me that I'm living on what used to be a military base vs. out of sight out of mind.  Plus those things are old.  If they fall apart, it would potentially send nasty dust clouds into the air, not to mention the cost of maintenance and the liability of someone being inside and getting injured by falling debris.

Also, in my mind, huge hangar + entertainment district don't really seem to go together.

as a current resident, completely agree with all points.  i think when its all said and done they will both be torn down. the northern one is already red tagged because part of the roof caved in and damaged that prototype plane that was in there.

did not know they were in a MJ video, maybe they should keep them. ive seen the hangars in several movies as well.

What? You haven't seen MJ's video?

But yes... I agree with you. It would be better to remove them, but now that things are up already, how do they do that safely and cleanly?

Todd Spitzer was quoted as saying that the other hangar that damaged the blimp prototype cost $1M/year to maintain.  I'm not sure if there's a way to demolish it safely and cleanly, but at a cost of $1M/year for maintenance I would hope that something could be done.

plus now you have more residents living around the hangar.  would be tough to bring it down cleanly.

"accidental" fires happen all the time in wooden structures.

I think the difference here is the area already has retail and residential close enough such that any type of small dust/debris fallout could be complained about.

I don't know how they took down that Deutsche Bank building in NYC but I think the closed aspect of the surrounding buildings may have offset the fallout. This may be similar to how they handled demolishing some hotels in Vegas.

Seems they would have to somehow put some type of containment barrier in order to keep dust/sound/etc to a minimum. Or maybe take it apart slowly a piece at a time (although 10 years and $170m isn't something Tustin or the developer has). Isn't part of the hangers concrete too?

i think the demo may be paid for by DoD.
