Trying to buy in Irvine is NO Fun

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Akim,

I am sorry you had so many bad parking experiences in Irvine. I don't think this is unique to Irvine but symptomatic of modern America in general--lack of courtesy and respect. I am just as guilty on the road. I try to hold my temper but sometimes you get upset and hit the horn or worse.

I guess we all need to sometimes just chill and relax. We are all in a rush to get to nowhere. There are plenty of parking spaces in this world and unfortunately the one time you pick a fight, the other person would likely pull out a gun. These types of things are NEVER worth your life or your family.

in my younger days, i was visiting a girlfriend and one of those large trucks (lifted, etc) that is like 30 feet long with oversized tires intentionally parked diagonally across two parking spots and i went upstairs, got about six eggs, came back down and threw them all over the truck. figured that would at least make them hesitate next time they were going to be A$$holes and park like that intentionally. even though it was a large truck, it would have fit in one stall.

haha... didn't mean for it to be a race thing.  Didn't mention anything about who these people were.  But yes, so happened I was in asian plazas.  It's not meant to signal anyone out.  There are annoying people EVERYWHERE.

I joke about the caucasian newport beach housewife down here where I work in newport.  It's not that they have a lot to do during the day (so what's their rush?), but I almost get run over on a weekly basis by a fake boobed, blond haired housewife crusing a RR, MB GL, Escalade (fill in the blank)  trying to cross the street to Fashion Island to grab some lunch.  Then they have the nerve to honk and get mad at me for crossing the street...    Are they the only bad drivers?  no... but they sure do have a knack of searching me out...

In any event, I live in Irvine because I like and embrace the city I've been in since '91 (20 years now).  For those who say its just stereotype, you haven't spent enough time in Monterey Park (or you are blind and deaf).  Not a place identified or known for people with social niceties...    haha.

That's why I usually go to the Woodbury Town Center and Orchard Hills. The only issues I have there is that sometimes cars park right next to mine instead of leaving one parking space empty in between. That's impolite.

You want me to tellyou the difference between those places and akim's places:    chinese, korean markets vs. regular stores :-)

My pet peeve is people who rush into places before letting people who are coming out go first. Lately, I have noticed quite a few people with kids allowing kids to go into an elevator before letting those already in the elevator out.

Also, I really don't like it when people insist on coming into the restaurant while you are trying to get out of it.  I almost got stampeded over by people coming into a restaurant the other day while I tried getting out (and a lot of times, I find myself keeping the door open for them ...the very same door I just opened so I could get out of the restaurant...).  Maybe I have the etiquette rules wrong...

akim - you should really use the crosswalk at the light and not cross the street where you do.
Were you the one honking at akim?

(just kidding)

I was angrily waving my fist at those jay walkers destroying the beautiful mud-grass on the way to fashion island.

Bad parking jobs? I keep a stack of these in my trunk.

My elderly father carries a camera around his neighborhood and tries to take pictures of the offending vehicle while the car's owner is watching. I don't really think it's a bright idea (some psychos would have no problem hurting an old man even if he thinks he's as nimble as a 30 year old) but it does seem to work in getting them to correct because it makes them nervous. People generally feel insecure or threatened when pictures are taken of them because of being documented / reported. I said, "Stop it, Daddy, or I'm going to be taking pics of your injuries" but it hasn't abated him so far.

I was at Diamond Jamboree plaza, about to turn into a parking spot, when all of a sudden a guy yelled at me and jumped in front of me to "save" the spot for someone...

I don't even visit DJ Plaza anymore. Unless you go on a Monday afternoon, or sometime when asian college and high school kids can't bum around there, I feel like I'm visiting a daycare.

85 Degrees just isn't worth it, although Bon Epi is (it's 10x better than 85 Degrees and no lines).

Bon Epi rules for sure.  85 degrees sucks!!

Also, whoever owns DJ Plaza needs to hire a full time cleaning person/crew to scrub the interior walkways and sidewalks.  If this center was owned by TIC, it would look way lot better in terms of proper maintenance and upkeep.  C'mon where is the Asian pride!!!

It's actually a marked crosswalk.  There are so many offenders trying to kill us pedestrians, sometimes a motorcycle cop hides around the corner to catch them.  Sometimes cars will swerve into the shoulder so that they won't have to stop...

Antioch is delisted.

What does that mean? No one offered $600k? Or the bank really wouldn't sell at $600k?

This is now Shadow Inventory.

It actually has pictures now. It's severely outdated, and in need of upgrading/maintenance. One good factor in the banks favor is that comps for that neighborhood have actually risen since it was originally listed for sale in the Summer. However one negative factor is that there are other $600,000-ish Turtle Rock homes that have popped up on the MLS since then (two of them are highly upgraded, but lower sqft).

for a discounted price, it actually could be made into a decent house.  However, if you look in the pics, you notice that because of the 0 lot lines, the house is attached to the neighbor's ugly retaining wall in the front yard.
