If any convict escapes (didn't it just happen a few weeks ago) from the Musick jail, wouldn't you, as a parent, rushing to the school, running the red light, breaking all the speed limits, just to make sure your kid is SAFE?

Um. No.

And if another convict escapes and captures hostages in the school...

LOL! Yeah, the first thing an escaped convict wants to do is get caught by holding up a school. They would be slightly more interested in getting away & evading police.

didn't they catch the last escapee at some fast food joint down in SD county?

Remind me again -- how many schoolkids did he knife in the process?? I thought he was caught having lunch.

Look, I'm not disputing your propaganda that Site B is better.
All I am saying is that Site A should be completely taken out of consideration. Current alternative is Site B, however I am open to Sites C,D, ...,Z as soon as it's safe for kids.

I (obviously) haven't done the same amount of HW as you have on the issue.  And I also (obviously) don't have any skin in the game (not sure if you do?).  I'm just saying... the school won't have that much trouble being staffed even if some teachers take a pass at that location.
Which I doubt. Like any reasonable person, I would choose a safer and healthier place to work at. Do I want to live my car in a place where it's more likely be burglarized? Do I want to be in the such area? Probably not, if I am given  a choice

It depends if the guy managed to escape quietly of if the has police on his tail.

you know a bunch of businesses have that disclaimer that there are substances/chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects etc and they have no problem finding employees.

you are overly paranoid and not realistic at all. you must have grown up in irvine.

Away from the kids who bring guns to school....

The threat of convicts escaping from the jail is less than the threat of some kid or some one coming to school and killing folks.

Like I said, it will be the same school layout, same kids, same parents, same teachers. We can either put all that in a safe place, or introduce an extra risk if the school is built by the jail. Moreover, it's not just escapees.. It's also visitors to the jail, who are not always very law abiding themselves. I would rather prefer to keep my child far away from such a place.

Site A is by the jail and landfill

What are you talking about?? The distance from the jail to the landfill is approximately 10 miles. How could the site be "by" both of them?

You are mixing up different landfills.

Here is the map.https://irvine.csbaagendaonline.net...zMwNy8xMzQ3L0ZpbGVz/5th_high_school_sites.pdf

There is another landfill just by the school.

I'm referring to Bowerman landfill. Which landfill are you referring to? Note: There is only one landfill in Irvine. The map you linked does not show any different.

There is a difference when such chemicals are just present, and when you have a landfill just by your house where all this stuff is highly concentrated.
Would you personally like to have a capped landfill literally right by your fence? Or would you consider another neighborhood, far away from it?

It's on the left, adjacent to the school. Check the attached file. It's highlighted.

And my kids mean a lot to me as I'm sure anyone here could tell you. I am uniquely qualified to answer your question because our elementary school is 4 miles from the jail. The school did not go on lockdown as you claim would "frequently happen every time someone escapes". That is false. No parents ran red lights nor did any of them drive like a hysterical maniac at break-neck speeds as you say you would to yank their child out of class. Everyone was calm, cool, and collective. It was any other normal day. I sincerely urge you to not embarrass your kids if/when they go to school. They can be really sensitive about their parent barging into the room in the middle of the day to interrupt the class, shouting nonsense, running around like a chicken with their head cut off while everybody is staring at them with wide eyes.

Sure, I would too.  But yet there are teachers every day who "risk their lives" to work at schools that are unsafe.
I guess this is one of the reasons they choose IUSD over other districts (especially LA).

Have you walked into a school in Bed Stuy Brooklyn or a school in the gang-ridden neighborhoods of the Bronx?
We are talking about quiet and peaceful Irvine schools, right? Not the schools, with 24 hour police presence? Or have I missed anything?

So my burning question is: did you buy a house in PP?
I understand it's the itching question. No, I did not.

Remember, I'm not saying site A is better...

just saying that it will get staffed.
Of course it will.  I have no doubt here.
However, it could hardly be a desirable school for many talented teachers. I am sure they would prefer (if possible) to find a safer place.

Before we get into argument. Do you see a difference between 4 miles and 0.7 miles? In other words, if there is a fire 4 miles away or 0.7 miles away from your house? Is there a difference?

I'll tell you even more. The idea to put the school on lockdown every time anything happens was introduces by the member of the Board of Education, who was a huge proponent of the Site A. He addressed the safety concern in the way that they could build a fence around the school and inside, and then put the school on lockdown if anything happens in jail.

i would prefer to work a mile from my house. we all prefer a lot of things. doesnt mean we get them. asian men would prefer to have bigger ...., but i digress.

bones said:
Ok so we agree.
I have never said it wouldn't be stuffed. I said it's less likely attract the most talented teachers. Look, even LA schools get teachers... The question if those teachers want to stay, and how fast they would switch if they are given other options. Usually, most talented find different opportunities, sooner or later.

How do we let our voices be heard about the various site options?
Contact IUSD, give them your opinion. They are going to have another round of discussion on 11/06. They also mentioned they would make the final decision in November. So, it's really time to speak up. Like I said, I was at the last meeting. About eight people participated in the public hearings. All, but one, were against Site A. Then, in two days, IUSD issues a press release, none of those opinions were even mentioned. So, I think we need to make a good push, if we want to be heard.
