The 2020 Presidential Election

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
@morekaos:

So you were making a big deal about how Dems were doing foolish things leading up to the election, what about what the Reps and Trump is doing with protests and filing lawsuits?

Who brings weapons to a poll counting site?

What a joke of a President. Coming out in the White House and saying the things he said about voter fraud, Democrats conspiring against him, etc. Zero actual claims or evidence but just conjecture. Funny how he says there is voter fraud in every battleground state where the additional vote count is narrowing against him except Arizona where the additional count is in his favor. It's pathetic.

Yes every single Democrat in the county has conspired together to help Republican Senators hold their seat but voted out Trump. Imagine that being a possibility.

Some of us are quietly and observing the counts and understand how the mail voting ballots would take time to tallies. Either our commander in chief is a sore looser or he does not wanting to believe in the count is catching up to make him a potential one term president. Yes, even now at this moment I still have not rule out yet his lost. Until it is declared officially by the Officials.

What I am afraid of is the aftermath. His followers and him rebels against the United States democracy. Sad.

At this point my social media has more false crackpot vote conspiracy theories than votes.

Facebook has become a strain on society. So many use it as a primary news feed and don't bother to check the story for sources. Sometimes it only takes 30 seconds.

It has entire data centers of algorithms designed to program your brain into clicking links. Doesn't matter if that behavior is destructive to society, as long the clicks keep coming in.

A video purportedly showing election officials "stuffing ballots" in Flint, Mich., a Democratic-leaning city of 95,000 people, wasn?t taken at a Flint polling site at all. It appears to show an election in Russia.

/facepalm

Hold the phone....

You're saying that those who support the President will go on a rebellion against the duly elected government? This must then mean that if the Tang Menace won by a squeaker that the Left would just sit by, strum their guitars and weave flowers in their hair?

It's reasonably clear at this moment that the hard core progressives are the ones setting fire to things. Is there violence on either side? Of course, but at the same magnitude?

Please.

A quote from a House of Representatives member distills this down to an inalienable fact - "Businesses weren't boarding up their windows because they were afraid of Trump supporters...."

And yes, Facebook/Twitter/etc are poison. Avoid at all cost.

Violence could erupted from both sides.

More so on the proud boys, QAnon from their openly oppositions and fire arm shows of force. Even foiled kidnapping attempt of one of Dems governor?s.

You mean like this guy? The police captain talking about lining people up and shooting them?

In the original post, Walden commented on a post from another person who said that people who voted for Biden were idiots who voted to ?throw the country away.? In his comment he wrote, ?they need to line up ev1 of them and put a bullet in their skull for treason.?

It's not the first time I've seen this rhetoric. It's straight up fascist, authoritarian thinking, and it's a national mental disorder that is badly in need of intervention.

I've looked at this pretty deep and looked at academic studies, opinion pieces from the FBI and DHS, and they all are across the board talking about alt-right violence.

Trump even told the Proud Boys to "stand by" and they all took it as marching orders. Some of these groups have it in their charter that they are trying to destroy the government and start a civil war. Both sides should be condemning that. It's scary.

Luckily everyone has behaved themselves but I am so disappointed in this country. Did we turn into assholes over the past 4 years? Or were we just always jerks and now some feel they have a license to act out their true selves?

I personally condemn violence on any side but it's hard to look at this objectively. I think in our quest to sound balanced we've been too lax on certain behaviors because we don't want to look too partisan. But it's clear where most of the bad behavior is coming from.

I will enjoy trump getting kicked out of the white house.
He actually benefits me personally, but he is a shitty human, and I like watching shitty people fail.
It completes me.

Sometimes you need a piece of shit in the white house to implement extreme policies...but 4 years is enough...and i do not regret trump doing all the crazy shit he did in the last 4 years.  I just can't let him do it again for another 4 years...he's done his job.  next

Trump benefits me financially.  In every other aspect of life though he is a blight. When the anti-regulation mantra becomes open virgin national forest to logging, that doesn't benefit me.  When it is give away massive 5G bandwidth on a no bid contract to crony company that doesn't benefit me.  When people march in a city singing "Jew will not replace me" and he encourages it that does not benefit me. When 17 year olds travel across states armed to defend the city and the police basically give them the nod, and he encourages it, that doesn't benefit me.  Now his ineptitude and denial on the pandemic is threatening even the finanical benenfit.

I like America.  I do not want to live in my luxury walled compound with my private security force while favelas are considered good enough for the masses.

Trump is dead man walking. I generally share the same sentiment, trump good for the pocket book but the guy was a nut job. I do appreciate him being honest and speaking his mind and showing his true colors even though I don?t share some of those views. There is too much pressure in society to conform to a certain behavior/viewpoint and not to talk about things that are taboo, which is part of the problem of why don?t progress more.

I agree with the sentiment here. I generally align with most Republican policies as it relates to financials. If there was almost any other REGULAR decent human being running on the Republican ticket I probably would have voted for them.

There was no way in hell I was voting for a man that incites violence, spends more time retweeting conspiracy theories than trying to stop COVID, has mounds of sexual allegations against him and getting a pass multiple times, tied up in potential financial scandals and refuses to disclose his personal financials despite saying he will for almost 4 years straight, paid off pornstars, funnels money into his personal resorts, spends more time golfing than any other president despite promising to never golf at all, etc, etc. The list goes on.

He's just a terrible human being that only uses people and takes advantage of every situation to get himself ahead. He will toss you aside the instant you are no longer useful to him. See how he tosses his own people under the bus. He does not have a minutia of character and ethics.

I think most reasonable people can agree on some of Trump's policies... just not his methodology.

Trade deficit with China needed to be addressed, illegal immigration needed to be addressed... but just not so heavy handed without a plan or forethought.

But in the end, the worse trait about him (other than being a bully), is how divisive he is. Even now while he is losing, his accusations are just horrible for a country that needs to unite to fight Covid and restore the economy. In business, conflict is good because that's how things get done... but in government, there is a certain tact that is required not just across the political lines but with foreign countries too.

I'm here.  Waiting it out but either way the markets and the economy win.  I prioritize that over all the noise.  Even if Biden manages the win he staggers into office with a very weak majority in the house, a likely Republican run Senate and a conservative court.  There will be no Tax hike, no repeal of Trump Tax cuts, no stacking of the courts, no new states, no Green new deal, no banning fracking, no capital gains hike no nothing.  In fact we will gleefully watch a radical left wing further Smith the party, Nancys head on a pike, further losses of power at the midterms, A short lived Biden white house dogged by a questionable non mandate after he steps down and cedes power to a very unpopular vice president.. Meanwhile economic recovery set in place by Trump will continue and the markets will rise.  Who knows?  In four years we can retake the executive branch and claim the trifecta... I love the Kaos!!  "Put it on the camp!! Those people have it!!"

I don't mind a Red Senate if Biden wins. That's how it should be.

Heck... if the Republicans had anyone other than Trump running, I actually think they would have won (at least I would have voted that way).

I find it ironic that he trashed McCain and Arizona came to bite him in the ass. Also what kind of person who says he about "unify" does not back a governor that has a kidnapping plot against them? Almost encourages it at his rally...

I guess, I will collect when they kick him out of the White House?

Let's hope we can get back to constructive discussions about policy instead of sparring.

Watched an interview with Soledad O' Brian where she mentioned this is why podcasts are so successful, because the level of discussion and thoughtfulness goes DEEP, and viewers/listeners really want that, instead of the current "news" format where it's just a cheap panel that has no idea of the topic and is just there to incite drama. She said she doesn't even know or care about which party her guests are in because it just never comes up and they hardly discuss politics at all because they are focused so much on the policies.

I understand we don't all have time for scholarship on every field on the earth but let's get back to critical thinking, respect for science, and seek out subject matter experts, instead of sparring matches.

This country has been able to attract the best and brightest in the world and I fear we could lose our competitive advantage when that PHD looks at where they are going to go next and says, "wow these guys are a bunch of nutcases, I'll start my new life in Germany instead."

And a big thank you to the Republicans in this thread who stood up for decency and did the best thing for the country. I am not affiliated with either party, but the treatment of a heroic, public servant like McCain was absolutely despicable, serves Trump right to lose Arizona. Rest in peace Senator.

I tuned in to Fox News during most of this election coverage and surprisingly was tolerable. Most were slightly distancing themselves from Trump's claims asking him to "put up or shut up" regarding election fraud. Hannity, Tucker, and Ingram still ridiculous as usual.

Everyone calling it for Biden except Fox because PA lead keeps increasing.

Hopefully Trump accepts it but I doubt it.

Let's move forward.
