Let's hope we can get back to constructive discussions about policy instead of sparring.
Watched an interview with Soledad O' Brian where she mentioned this is why podcasts are so successful, because the level of discussion and thoughtfulness goes DEEP, and viewers/listeners really want that, instead of the current "news" format where it's just a cheap panel that has no idea of the topic and is just there to incite drama. She said she doesn't even know or care about which party her guests are in because it just never comes up and they hardly discuss politics at all because they are focused so much on the policies.
I understand we don't all have time for scholarship on every field on the earth but let's get back to critical thinking, respect for science, and seek out subject matter experts, instead of sparring matches.
This country has been able to attract the best and brightest in the world and I fear we could lose our competitive advantage when that PHD looks at where they are going to go next and says, "wow these guys are a bunch of nutcases, I'll start my new life in Germany instead."
And a big thank you to the Republicans in this thread who stood up for decency and did the best thing for the country. I am not affiliated with either party, but the treatment of a heroic, public servant like McCain was absolutely despicable, serves Trump right to lose Arizona. Rest in peace Senator.
