The 2020 Presidential Election

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I'm not celebrating down ballot victories. No posts so far about this, but you are reasonably correct in this line of thinking. If the top is adjusted by a harvester, it goes without saying the balance of the ballot should also be "turned". That said, one of the Texas Ballot Harvesting videos showed the harvester encouraging the voter to adjust only one of her choices - a vote for Senate - then paying her to change the ballot. I don't know if the rest of the ballot was changed as well before fraudulently being deposited as a mail in ballot.

@Irvinehomeowner - A reasonable discussion comparing Universal Mail Out Balloting and Absentee Ballots:

https://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/515611-universal-mail-in-voting-jeopardizes-the-equal-right-to-vote-but-absentee

I voted no on that proposition regarding a felons vote options. Why? It was disingenuous.

There are Constitutional Rights to bear arms (2nd Amendment) but the only Amendments tied to voting are 19th (Women Voting), 24th (Banning a Poll Tax - a partial basis for the proposition) and 26th (Allowing 18 year olds to vote) - none of which actually impacts felons voting rights.

If the legislature really, really, reallym reeeeely cared about felon rights, they would logically also re-grant the right for a felon to bear arms. Is that going to happen anytime soon? I hope not. I don't want felon's having access to guns unless it's under very narrowly defined. Clearly the authors of the proposition care not about "true rights" as granted by the U.S. Constitution thus in my mind this was really just courting more votes for their side of the ledger.

More on the question here all of which pre-existed the current proposition. Not really much here to disagree with so no huge need for the proposition:

I wasn't suggesting you were. I mean generally the GOP is claiming success and celebrating down tickets. But then crying foul for the presidential ticket.

Yes, it is too early to call (Twitter... I mean admin can censor this message if needed ;)), but looks like Biden will win. The question is will Trump ask for recounts? That would take up to 2 weeks for the results and most likely the winner would be the same unless there really was a fraud. Really surprised that the tossups states' winner might not be the final winner this time. Just my 2 cents. I could be wrong.

Looks like he's going for a recount in Wisconsin to try and re-create the hanging chads Florida 2000 thing again. He's also suing Michigan and Pennsylvania. It won't matter. They're desperate moves.

It would have been better for the country if the win will be more decisive, so we don't have to go through another set of shenanigans AGAIN.

He also proclaimed himself the victor last night, as he said he would weeks ago. But it doesn't matter, he can't declare himself the victor. We decide that, he works for US, not the other way around.

I'm declaring myself Holy Roman Emperor and Archduke of Spain, master of the New World. First order of business is to sell Florida. Who's with me?

@irvinehomeowner - A felon hasn't done their time if they are still on parole. Finish your repayment of your debt to society and your victims, there will still be elections ahead to consider.  Would you want the arson who started the Silverado Fire to be able to vote anytime soon assuming they are caught, prosecuted, and jailed. Once their parole is granted, they will still represent a risk to society. It's not too much to ask for some privileges to be withheld until they show a measure of change in their life. What's the rush here?

Yes, unfortunately, this will be Bush v Gore all over again only now on STEROIDS!!!!! Are your popcorn reserves scaled up to handle the next two months?

PS - @ICEY is on to something here. I'd back a candidate that was ready to sell Florida, but to whom?

My .02c

Depends right? Many serious felons don't qualify for parole. The ones that do (usually for less serious crimes), the parole is part of their rehabilitation and they are repaying their debt to society and their victims. If a parole board was able to determine that a felon can be released back to society under supervision, that must mean they are on their path back to being able to get their rights back, thus allowing them to vote should be part of that process as they are contributing to society and voting affects there lives too.

This is a philosophical debate we won't agree on but I lean towards giving everyone a chance to be a better person. And yes, I understand there will be anomalies of felons who are granted parole who don't deserve it but I see that as the exception and not the rule. Just like mail-in ballot fraud. :)

Finding a buyer has been the hardest part. Maybe we can pay someone to take it?  ;D

Russia would buy Florida. They still regret selling us Alaska for only $7M. US RE is always a good long term investment  :)

LOL

That's actually brilliant for so many reasons  ;D

There isn't an active Irvine City Council thread, so may as well post here.

Amazed to see Larry "Where'd all that Great Park planning money go" Agran possibly back in Irvine city politics. I wish voters might learn from their past mistakes...

My .02c

I don't know about possibly, it's it a sure thing at this point?

It'll be Tammy Kim, Larry Argan, and Lauren Johnson-Norris (picking up Farrah Khan's remaining term).

My .02c

I certainly did not vote for him.
