I'm selling some out of the money calls on a few stocks and have a few small short positions on SHLD, TTWO, and SPG. The market is so lightly traded that it's hard to predict where it's going.</blockquote>

USC,

Are you short via puts or shorting the actual stocks. I think that SHLD and SPG will turn out to be two very good shorts for 2009, but if you are shorting the actual stocks, they could be pulled from you pretty quickly. If you haven't done so already, you may want to consider the March or April puts, though they are no doubt expensive by blackvault's standards.</blockquote>
BF, I'm short those stocks....100 shares of SHLD, 100 shares of SPG, and 500 shares of TTWO. I also have an interesting strategy for picking up higher paying dividend stocks just to get the declared dividend. What I do is buy the stock (like USB) the day before the ex-dividend date and protect myself by selling deep in the month calls against any possible huge drops in the price in the shares. Hold the shares for a few days and then sell the shares and buy back the calls at a near wash.

Haven't been around a computer in about 3 weeks. I'm on vacation and plan to be till first or second week of January. I've made absolutely no trades. Only trades were what was before and that is selling CSCO, AA, and XOM at the money and slightly out of the money calls. So far...so really good. Yum.

See ya in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, my Credit Suisse forex trades on the Euro have been making bank

C?mon BV, where?s the hunger man?

Now is not the time to be losing your edge, snap out of it.

You're a funny guy. When I'm on vacation, I let my 17 year old bro take care of things. Just before I flew out I showed him where to enter buys and sells. Then I showed him my dart and wigi board. He can't go wrong.

So don't worry, when it comes to your account...I assure you it is taken care of 24/7.

Which reminds me...I'm anxious to see how much money he has made me.

Good to know.

I was just about to send Vladimir and Mikhail over to Peet?s looking for you.

What do you guys think about ticker USO - USA OIL? It seems are great time to get in. There is no way that gasoline can remain this cheap for long.

Actually, it is quite possible that gas remains this cheap for quite a few years. Current demand is down, unemployment will keep it down while more people ride the bus or carpool to save on expenses, and any success with alternative fuels or electric vehicles by the upcoming Obama administration will only further depress demand for gasoline. So what exactly do you expect to happen to USO, aside from continuing is slow glide into oblivion?

Other than the fact that USO is a lot cheaper now than it was last July, what do you know about it? Have you read <a href="http://www.unitedstatesoilfund.com/pdfs/uso-prospectus.pdf">the prospectus</a>? The price of gasoline is really irrelevant. USO uses derivatives to mimic the price fluctuations of light sweet crude delivered to Cushing, Oklahoma. Have you been following oil inventories lately? What about storage capacity at Cushing? Refinery utilization? Also, there is a direct correlation between economic activity and energy consumed. What do you think a world wide recession is going to do to energy demand?

Unless you understand all the variables involved, you aren't ready to go long or short.

[quote author="morekaos" date=1230685307]I too am pretty much flat for now but 875 gold looks tempting.</blockquote>

Are you interested in the short side again?

What have we told you about double 2X ETFs? You don't hold them, you trade them, because if the underlying security/commodity/index stays flat then time decay will make the ETF go down in value. You buy and sell the 2X ETFs on the spikes up or down. You can hold it, hope the trend continues, and hopefully make more money, but you will make more money trading the spikes. Keep in mind the real traders are chillin in Jamaica with you right now, and come Monday things could change really quickly. I know you don't like to "day trade", but the 2X ETFs are designed to be traded and you should get out when you hit a certain profit target.

Winex, Are you implying there is a bubble in OIL prices at $45?

No, I'm implying that your analysis isn't very well formulated.

If you guys want to pick up some almost guaranteed pocket change then sell some March $2.50 FNM uncovered calls @ $.05 and sell some April $3 FRE uncovered calls @ $.05. Both of these dogs are trading at around $.70 and have almost no hope of getting into the $2 range, but for the small chance that they do (kinda like the chance of getting struck by lightening, you can easily pick enough shares up for the calls to become covered). I sold 100 calls of each and looking to profit about $1,000 less transaction costs.
