Starting daycare...

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
At this point in my daughters life, I just want her to be in a safe and caring environment, education comes second.  Though I have to admit this new preschool does more educational activities then the old school.

Thanks - we looked at that school and liked it for my son, but thought their infant room care was lacking for our daughter. The toughest thing we have had to deal with was finding a good place for infants.

Just got a email from ICDC in Irvine.. looks like we'll be jumping ship again... cheaper by $200 per month then our current pre-school and accredited too!...  Harvard here we come..

Actually had a sat down with my child's new teachers at ICDC.  It was an intake interview.  Talked for over an hour on the school, procedure's, curriculum, etc.  It was the first school that offered such a thing, her first two school's we didn't sit down with the teachers, only the director.  And get this, ICDC suggested us to come in for a few days before her official start day to have her get familiar with the environment.  We had to ask for this at the other schools.  Their daily curriculum also seems more developed then the other schools of play, play, and more play.  I hope this school works out and I have a good feeling it will..

It seemed kinda random how we got in... my wife looked into this school over a year ago.. we were pretty deep down on the list but my wife just happened to call to check and a few weeks later they replied that they have an opening.. I guess calling does work...

So today was the last day for my daughter at Tutor Time.. she was there roughly 2 months..

Positives:

1.  2 week notice required only
2.  can pay by credit card
3.  teachers care
4.  bigger rooms

Negatives:

1.  seems more boys then girls
2.  did not take enough action when a "disruptive" new boy started in my daughter's class.. she got a few bruises from the little punk
3.  some of the teachers are not native English speakers
4.  more daycare then school

We had our son here for a few months.  They seem really nice to the kids when we are there but a few incidences kinda turned us off to ICDC.  One is we stepped into the classroom when they had snack time and the teacher had her back to us.  She didn't realize I was there.  A little asian girl was crying her eyes out at her seat.  The teacher told her that if she doesn't stop crying that she has to sit away from everyone else because she is disrupting snack time.  I gathered that it was her first few days at the facility...Second, when I peeked in the secret observation room, I saw a little boy being picked on by couple of big kids.  He tried to make them stop but they wouldn't so he called them a funny name (nothing bad it was something like baddy or something).  Anyways, the big kids told the teacher that he was calling them names and when he did a second time, the teacher without asking what caused him to do it, just grabbed both of his wrists and told him that if he can't control his mouth then she will control his hands.  She held him like that (and looked kinda hard since he was swinging a little as she was walking around with him) for awhile...

Anyways, it is supposed to be a learning school for IVC but they really don't take any suggestions or try new stuff.  It is more like a daycare.  They certainly don't try any form of conflict resolution when parents are not watching.  There are some nice teachers but some bad ones who really don't care.  Anyways, we are now at a church based daycare and it seems a little better but really, having mom at home is best.

ps:  By the way , there are many parents who like it at ICDC as well.  I think if your child is quiet and listens and doesn't speak up (like the boy who was being picked on), then they will be ok.  The kids there are really nice and the teachers get upset only if the child makes their job more difficult.

So far so good, there were two teachers in the room which is a nice change, had soft music playing, activities setup already at different stations, good communication with the teacher, and so far no phone call yet

Wife picked up, seems like my daughter is doing well... teacher commented she did great for first day, slept well, ate well, and by the end of the day she was leading her other classmates around the playground.. hopefully this continues...

A party on "My Belly Belly Screen!"  :D

So sad to see my hidef wide screen tv has turned into a cartoon zone now. I have no further interest in upgrading the TV or buying a home theater system.

Anyone have picky eaters?  With the new school we have to pack a lunch.  So far she barely touches her food (the school puts it back in the lunch box if she doesn't finishes it, so we know how much she ate).  Of course the cookie is gone... can't pack PB&J's due to no nuts allowed at school.  Trying to feed a stubborn 2 soon to be 3 year old is one of the hardest tasks my wife and I have ever undertaken...

My son doesn't eat a lot either, and I've just learned to accept it. Some days he eats half his lunch, other days the whole lunch is still in his lunchbox at the end of the day (minus just a few bites). The best thing for us has been not to make a big deal out of food or turn it into a battle of wills.

It's frustrating because as a parent you want to feed feed feed your kid...but you can't make them eat. You just have to remember that they will eat when they need to. I don't think any kid ever starved him/herself to death out of stubbornness!

What to pack for my daughters lunch tomorrow, new school does not provide lunch...  Pb&j is always good but it's a no nut school...  Mac n cheese it is...
