Starting daycare...

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Turtle rock would be nice, but don't know their availability, and the next tour I could get in is in Nov., so I think they have a wait list

ps94472- keep calling Northwood Montessori like the other said. we called once a week when we were serious about putting our child in school.  we did that for about a month before our child got in. (we were on the waitlist for about 2 years but never called untiil we were prepared to put our child in school).

Good luck.

Try calling the Northwood Montessori in Irvine.  If you are on their wait list and ready right now (maybe even explain what happened), they may make an exception.  We've been there for 5 years now with our kids and would never even imagine something like what you experienced happening.  I'm so sorry for your experience.

We're on the wait list there...  very impressive and the director seems very strict (we were verbally chastised for being a few minutes late for our tour).  So you really think calling them will work?  I'll try later today..

Is a strict director a good director?  My wife and I went through the pre-school selection process over the summer and if a director had chastised me I would have ended the tour right there.  That doesn't strike me as a good way to start a teacher/parent relationship.

Somewhat on topic... so a friend of mine told me of how his daughter was abused (mentally/psychologically) at her previous daycare.  She was so stressed at the school that she started losing her hair.  Long story short, my friend talked to a lawyer to sue, but was advised not to.  The daycare/school had parents that were lawyers and they could probably prolong the fight and make it very difficult and costly for the lawsuit.  My friend contacted every outlet he could think of to complain/file complaints.  It just doesn't seem like there's a governing body that could help them.  Is there a governing body that oversees daycares?

Which school?

We were late.. I didn't like it of course but what can you do?  Strict director is important to me as it reflects on the teachers and students, unlike my current preschool.

I agree that the director sets the tone for the school.  That's what would bother me about this.  Maybe I'm making too much of a small incident, but I wouldn't want my child treated with disrespect.  If that was the tone of my first interaction with the director, it would make me look elsewhere.  Getting out of the current school is most important though.  I hope things work out with finding the best school for your daughter.

Giving our 30 day notice today to our current preschool...  gonna say it's due to "financial" reasons...  still gotta keep it cordial, right?

Glad we're leaving, not even a sorry to hear but instead I get you should've told us last week, nice

About tutor time in oak creek: my son attended for several months a few years ago, he was 3 years old. The school was pretty nice and clean, nothing special, not too good, not too bad, we ended up pulling him out because he hated going to any preschool at that time.
Just one negative thing: our $800 deposit was never returned, although we gave them plenty of advance notice, talked to them on the phone, filled out all the necessary forms etc. Mind you, that was 3 years ago. We ended up moving to FL soon after, so we stopped pursuing, but when we move back in a couple of months, that's the first door we'll go knock on! They should return it with interest!
Oh, one other thing: a lot of the teachers had a pretty heavy accent (mostly spanish) which may not bother some people, but we are a mixed international family, and I wanted my son to pick up proper English pronunciation and grammar.
