Chancellor Conoley is exactly the snowflake type forward thinking activist I'm talking about.  I question her motives, however, You will ALWAYS find someone who is offended by something. Catering to just a few gripers is no way to run business.  It goes along with the theme of this thread,  at some point the tail cannot wag the dog.  90% of Indians don't care so I'm good with the Redskins.  For the rest, you're right its just a name, root for another team,  I'll bet of the 10%, few were actually part of the complainers.

So why do you care if they change the name?  It's their school...how are you affected in anyway?

There is no tail and no dog...it's society.  Society change all the time...there is nothing to wag.

The real story behind CSULB has more to do with corporate branding than people being offended by Prospector Pete (a fictional representation that hasn't inflicted any real harm upon anybody.)  In their view, re-branding as 'The Beach' makes the school more attractive to out-of-state transfers and international students, the very people that pay the most in tuition.  (After all, who wouldn't want to go to college at the BEACH?)

I bet less than 1% of students give a crap about Prospector Pete.  It's a commuter school with an apathetic student body.  It's just that by throwing a bone to the "activists" on campus they get their virtue signalling brownie points and it's a convenient excuse to re-brand at the behest of their corporate fund-raising consultants, who have to earn their fees.  The whole thing is a joke and a pack of lies being perpetuated by the chancellor, IMO.

So why should anyone be worked up over it?

This is a strawman on your part.

You mention your family secured independence from the US. So your family and many others protested against the US navy base in the Philippines? Unbelievable! (noticed I said many others)

It's not...because no one cared about it except for Moreakos, who decried it as some sort symbol of failure on the part of society.

My Grandfather Galicano Apacible was one of the drafters of the Philippine constituiton and was active in Phillipine indipendance from the United States.  My great uncle was President Osmena, He's the guy walking next to McArthur in the famous I shall return painting.  My Uncle Teofisto Guingona was Vice President for Gloria Mcgapagal from 2001 to 2004.  Along with numerous senators governors and congressman and judges yah, my family has the power chops.  And yah I was against the base pullouts, a lot of people depended on those bases and that was a huge hit to the economy.

You literally brought up the topic, and morekaos graciously answered your questions  Please point to where he or anybody else was worked up, or admit this is just another strawman on your part.

Whaaa. What the heck are you saying? US troops treated unfairly?  PI Independence was a peaceful process. Happened post WWII.  You need to read your history books

You need to follow the conversation better.  I brought it up because Morekaos had previously cited to it as a example.

Ah, so citing an example now equates to being "worked up"?  LOL...

Philippines Orders U.S. to Leave Strategic Navy Base at Subic Bay
https://www.nytimes.com/1991/12/28/...o-leave-strategic-navy-base-at-subic-bay.html

Is this fake news or real?

Eye,the Philippines was granted Independence on July 4, 1946.  U.S. Withdrawal from Subic and Clark is another issue of the late 80s early 90's

Haha, another snowflake socialist experiment based on the inherent ?goodness?, in it together attitude that fails every time....

Panera Bread's Socialist 'Pay What You Want' Experiment Fails Miserably

The other side of that is that humans tend to be greedy and all about self-preservation. If you offer a customer the option to pay whatever they want, the vast majority of customers are not going to inquire about how much it cost the restaurant to put the food on their plate. Instead, as a general rule, customers are going to approach payment in terms of themselves. Which, to be fair, was Panera Cares' stated desire ? you know, raising awareness about food insecurity and providing people the ability to eat regardless of their economic status.

Your story might be true or maybe not. Who in there right mind will be here, if their family has it made in another country?
The story gets better and better every time you tell it.

So...if people cannot be trusted to do the right thing, it seems like one would need to imposes rules and regulations to ensure that people do the right thing.

Again...just admit that libertarians are selfish and want to do whatever they want to do.  We can just start calling libertarians "spoiled pouty children" and be done with it.

That's not really socialist.  Sure ignorant liberal people are attracted to socialism, but the above is quite opposite of socialism and is actually a capitalist experiment.

Subic Bay closure was the result of rent increase.  Same with Cam Ranh Bay.  The PH government wanted $825 million/year for Subic Bay naval base lease, and Vietnamese government wanted $200 million/year (from Russia) for Cam Ranh Bay base lease.  In both cases, US and Russian government declined to pay and closed the base.

The Cubans are probably kicking themselves that they signed a perpetual lease for Guantanamo Bay naval base to the US at fixed price.
