IHO --- You are not really serious about claiming it  is OK to use "white supremacy" when in the context of education ???

It is ok to back away from this.  No one will have a problem with it.

I?m not surprised at all. Coincidentally he did this earlier in this thread.

I see what is happening in this thread. They are losing in polls, public opinion, social issues, healthcare ...

Even the new GOP leadership mentioned that King?s comments are out of line. If I remember Morekas comment when I mentioned that, he said he doesn?t care.

The only thing happening in this thread is exactly what the thread is about. Nitpicking and conflating non-issues into targeted waste of time issues.  Mountains out of mole hills.  Snowflakes love to scream and hear their own voices whale out as a victim.

Maybe you should follow the ?new? GOP leader Kevin McCarthy.

?CNN article: Steve King removed from committee assignments following racist comments

McCarthy announced that the House Republican Steering Committee -- which oversees committee assignments -- met Monday night and made a decision that King "will not be serving on committees in this Congress."

The move is just the latest reaction to King's comments, which have outraged both sides of the aisle, and spurred calls for more actions against the conservative Iowa congressman, who has a lengthy history of incendiary comments related to race and immigration. Earlier Monday, a pair of the Senate's most high-profile Republicans sharply condemned King, the highest ranking GOP officials to publicly rebuke King after comments he made to The New York Times that were sympathetic to white supremacists.?

Wake up and smell the coffee. Get out of the past.

I will continue to use McCarthy?s action against King until you stop your incendiary comments related to race.

Watch yourself. Don't accuse me of something you can't substantiate.

Right there. You previously acknowledged that people find it offensive.

Can you not read? This isn't a thread to promote racism or hate, this is a thread that points out how easily people turn things into racism or hate.

But I find it offensive and I?m sure other people do. Got it?

That's fine but I think you are being selective here because of who posted this thread.

Your buddy BTB posted obvious racist and sexist remarks of his own origin (not article links) and I don't remember you being offended at him.

Also, why do you find this thread offensive but calling people a b-word is not?

You say it?s not a thread that promotes hate. But Morekas continuously posts about blackfaces and other questionable topics. IHo say that to a brother playing basketball and tell me what happens. (But don?t blame me if something happens. Use your own judgement.) You previously mentioned you play basketball on weekends or something.

That was a month ago...nobody cared then and no one cares now.  Ask any or your workmates who that is,  No one will know.  Moving on.

I can boil it down to this

I don?t  think morekaos even read the actual interview before posting

He basically thought it will be a quick post making fun of liberals for being too sensitive , he will get a quick thank you or two from the usual MAGA circle jerk crowd and everyone will move on ...

IHO just stepping in because he has to show he is ?smart? and ?nuanced ? and he is also a Long time supporter of Kaos

Now as we have quickly exposed here ? there is no ?context? which makes John Wayne?s comments any less racist than what obviously comes to mind when you read or hear the words ?white supremacy ?

Rather than acknowledge and course correct and then move on, people have dug in their heels.  This is classic OC Republican lens on this John Wayne  is a ?good old guy? in many people s traditional views , which are calcified and hard to change

Just don?t pretend it is not what it obviously is ? and hide behind ?context ? .

Either way the point of this thread is the stupidity of over reach and it?s dulling effects on any real issue. JW will probably remain JW.  The public is numb to most of these snowflake screams now so, like the gun control thread...nothing will be done.

Ok ? so now you have the full transcript

What is a ?fair assessment?  of what he said ?  Racist or not ?

Racist, probably... but remember the time, in 1971, many people were like that, probably including people who are close to you.

"Fair assessment"... I don't agree... it's not like he said those things without provocation. He was asked questions regarding a particular subject matter and his answer was directed towards that... education, leadership and opportunity.

Today, if a well-known actor were to say those same things, Twitter would explode and he would never work again, but again, you have to properly frame this with context and timeline.

For example... many years ago... the word "gay" was often used to describe something with negative connotation, the same thing with the word "retard". If you were to use those words today, it would cause an uproar. But if I were to find some recording of you using that word back in the 70s... could I call you out on it today?

Again, not a commentary on if John Wayne was racist... or if I am racist (which someone seems to contend) but just on how presentation of words, context and time can change things or even make people react differently (which is sort of on subject of this thread).

Again he picks and choose like a lil ______

So he makes a statement calling me out. I respond. But he refuses to answer it. Then he mentions me in a post.

Again, I think this is an unfair assessment of what I was saying.

When I originally read your post, I was shocked by his comments... I had not read the interview. But then when momopi posted the fuller version (why did momopi do that?) and now when I read the larger interview as a whole... I'm not as shocked because I have to put myself in the same context and time frame.

This is not a support of Republicans, political leanings or morekaos (who I have had disagreements with... Texas vs Cali thread), it was a comment on my reaction to your post.

Was that your summation of the interview or was that someone else's quotes? Because the way it was said/framed was strong. If that's your opinion, that's fine, but please don't try to use politics, member support or a desire for me to look smart as a reason to discount what I said. We all have the same space here to discuss things and mine was merely an observation of what you said vs what was actually said and my reaction.

I really don't have an opinion on John Wayne as I don't know much about him.

Stay in your lane.

Yeah your right because I would like to point out what happened before.

You still making comments and hiding and acting like a lil ____. Don?t address me in your comment. If you don?t want me to make a comment to you.

I really like how you pick and choose what to respond to.

I get what IHO is saying.  Fortune didn't post the full interview from John Wayne.  The full interview is not as bad as the snippet Fortune posted, so it looks like Fortune has an agenda to make John Wayne look more racist than he actually is.

So fortunes credibility takes a hit for not posting the whole interview.

I thought of this before momo posted the full interview with John, so the damage was already done.

You forget the origin of this whole fracas which began with kaos posting a ?snowflake? argument regarding John Wayne name change .  How credible was that argument ?

After reading the whole interview do you still think  John Wayne deserves his name on an airport ?

I have posted the full link of John Wayne?s interview which is actually even longer than what was pasted on screen . John Wayne comes off as a racist in my book , maybe your interpretation is different .

This is 1971 we are taking about , not 1951 or 1931 . A lot had happened by this time to make people realize their follies of the past when it came to discrimination

John Wayne is not the least bit apologetic and actually wears his views proudly . But ?

?White supremacy ? is not open to context and misrepresentation. If people think this is not racist enough , then I guess I can say it says a lot about people?s own viewpoints than the supposed ?credibility ? .
