Shutters

Window Decorators' shutters.

Cheapest I've found and reputable. I heard somewhere there are only a few shutter manufacturers (located in Riverside county) and that all these companies are just sales fronts for them.

In any case, we've owned lots of different types of shutters, and like fine wine vs. cheap wine, I can't tell the difference unless someone tells me the story behind what makes them so great. They're shutters. They work.

Good choice. I also used WD. ;)

I can say this - a lot cheaper then the builder and many other companies out there.

OpenSky, what - no clearview!  Clearview is the new hotness :)

I just put my deposit on shutters for my home with a different company who far underbid any of their competition.  The owner came to do measurements and was very patient and knowledgeable, not pushy or sales like at all.

I can't recommend them quite yet because they haven't been installed, but I'll keep you posted.  He basically told me (and I believed him since I heard the same story from other vendors) that 90% of the poly shutters are from a company called Sunland Shutters (you can find their site by searching).  He claims they are a solid company and make a good quality product that keeps getting better as they change it over time.

From Sunland shutters, he can either have the shutters made locally and get them in 3 weeks, or made in China (by Sunland factory), and get them in 6-7 weeks.  The Chinese made ones are the same quality as locally made just take longer to get, and save you about $1000 off the price.

I'm gonna wait it out and go for the Chinese ones.  That should give him plenty of time to leave the country with my deposit, never to be heard from again :)

We can shortcut these threads pretty quickly.

Did ZeroLot vet any shutter companies? Who wants to put money into a pool so that she can?

I went with Econo Blinds for my shutters.  I originally didn't want shutters.  I really wanted roller shades and honeycombs (cordless + top down easy up).  But since Econo Blinds were doing the the roller shades and honeycombs I just said go ahead and add shutters to the tall windows I can't reach by the stairs.

I don't know how their shutters are wood or poly.  I just needed them quick and cheap.

I got Hunter Douglas shades earlier this year with a great vendor but they were still Hunter Douglas prices.  I'm willing to go super cheap now that I have over 24 windows to cover.

All my downstairs windows are cordless shades of some kind ... roman shades or honeycomb ... all those windows shades are from Overstock.com.  They're not Hunter Douglas quality but they were cheap and cordless.

Me disappoint at ZeroLot.

No vetting breakdown for window covering companies or detailed descriptions of composition/quality of shutters.

:(

Did you price compare Overstock versus Blinds.com?

Yes.  Blinds.com was over priced by at least $40~$100 per shade.  The reason is Blinds.com is custom made.  While Overstock is pre-cut.

Would you mind share your Hunter Douglas vendor info, thanks.

I had used Kao's Pacific in City of Industry before but thinking of finding another Hunter Douglas vendor that is closer to Irvine.

Hi Inc,

Sorry for the super delayed response.  I've been in a rush moving everything into the new house.  I can't recommend Econo Blinds because the quality of their product is no where close to the Hunter Douglas vendor I used to use.  In fact, I'm calling them up now to buy new blinds from them.  I'm calling Jessica of "Interior Style Designs"  (562) 429-1686.  She's really great and her husband did the installs in the past for me.

I know their pricier but at least I'll get what I pay for.

I visited some of my neighbors homes too and they all got their blinds and shutters and here I am, still waiting for my shutters, delayed another 2 weeks.  The blinds I have feel old and cheap, while my neighbors look really nice.  Econo Blinds rep tried to convince me that they are the newest and the expensive look and many things.  Anyhow I don't like the way I'm treated by Econo Blinds so I can't recommend them, even though they get great reviews on Yelp.  I also don't like them bashing on products made in China when he himself admitted my China made blinds are better quality than what he's offering.

I also saw one of my neighbors with "Combi Blinds".  They are the coolest and wish I got them.  They are light filtering blinds with blackout abilities by alternating the shades.  They match very well with shutters and work great with the giant sliding doors.  The only catch is they do require cords to work.

Wish I asked them which company they went with.

Is this what you are talking about, a honycomb shade with both sheer and black out material?

This is Hunter Douglas's Duette honycomb shade with sheer material on top and light darken material on the bottom.

Nope that those.  I just found it on YouTube.  It's the Onyx Combi Shades.

That's pretty cool, kind of like the Silhouette from Hunter Douglas but with complete black out future.  How are the prices for these Combi shades?  Looks like they are more expensive than shutters.

I'm not sure if they are more expensive than shutters.  My neighbors, who are very budget conscious, got those for their sliding doors and giant windows which were too big (maybe too pricey) for shutters.

I have very budget conscious neighbors ... the one with the Combi Shutters are painting their own interior and doing a very good job doing so.  I have another one down the street ripping our his own carpet and installing his own hardwood floors.

It's really nice as we exchange a lot of great DIY ideas.  ;D

We have those honeycomb shades and I personally don't like them.

It's nice that they filter the light but unless you don't raise them, no air comes through and they don't totally black out light either.

I prefer regular blinds or shutters... plus I think they look better, even with drapes.
