Shutters

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
They did chalk the edges if anyone was wondering why there is a small gap on the right there.  :).. i took these before they were complete done.  It was a good job.  I wouldn't want to spend the thousands more to get the higher end guys like Hunter.

I'm getting Norman Sussex shutters on all my windows.  I'm happy with these since they have the invisible tilt.  Paid a little under $16 sq ft.

I'm using Kevin Kearney owner at Budget Blinds OC.  Great guy to work with.  He did my previous home and he will be doing my new home.

I can recommend Derek at Bella Blinds.  He's the company owner and does everything himself from measurements to ordering to installations.  He's really critical of his own work and very detailed in both his consultation and installation.  He ended up being the lowest of about 4-5 quotes that I got so it was a no brainer for me.

I went with poly wood Sunland Shutters Clearview (made in China so takes about 6-7 weeks to arrive).  Alternatively you can pay him about $1k more and have them done locally in 2-3 weeks if you have the extra cash to burn.

He installed my shutters a couple weeks back and no issues to report, he warranties his work and will come back to fix anything that goes wrong.  He also does roller shades etc. and has pretty good prices on those.

Just google "Derek Bella Blinds" and you will find all his contact info.

Anyone get roller shades recently or have had them for a while? Interested in how durable they are over time, anything to look for in the fabrics or any issues you've had with them.

We are planning to get about half roller shades, half shutters. Total of around 360sqf.

We like shutters for the durability, insulation (if you get poly/synthetic) and ability to get partial view + air circulation + privacy.

But like the look of shades better and because it can let more light + air in. Main concern with shades is how well they hold up over time, both the fabric and the cordless roll up mechanism.

We got one quote from WD for 6850 (way higher than expected) but I'm taking it with a grain of salt for now since they said they can discount it when we're ready to decide. Max/Traci seemed really nice and professional. Quote was with sunland poly clearview shutters on little less than half and custom roller shades with cassette on little over half
I would go all shutters - clearview style (no bar)

I got mostly clearview shutters but in the living / kitchen area I wanted a mix of shutters and roller shades since the rollers let the most light in.

I got the ones with matching fabric cassette and silky back for privacy but not 100% opaque.  The rollers look really nice I get compliments on them all the time.  Glad I did this instead of shutters in kitchen / living area, let's a lot more light in.

I leave my kitchen and living room rollers open most of the time but no neighbor behind me.  If privacy comes at the cost of darkness during the day, probably not worth it.

It all depends. If you stay home during the day, then it's nice to have open light. However if your out WORKING during the day, it doesn't matter regarding light coming to your house.
It's just better to keep it everything the same. (In my opinion) My feeling when I see houses with partial shuttter - must be they can't afford to get the rest shutters especially for the main functional windows.

Can someone post pics of what kind of "roller shades" we are talking about here?

To me they look cheap so I can't understand how they cost as much or more than shutters.
