Wow - I would have thought they'd have closed the Lowes at the District. I'm guessing this is one where they wanted one Lowes in the general area and had an easier out from the marketplace (vs. the Tustin Legacy).  Or a more financially attractive out.

They are also closing Aliso Viejo Lowes.

For all the bashing about Tustin...???.. that Costco has more sales volume that either of the Irvine locations. This I know cuz my hubby was doing data analysis for Costcos, among other companies as part of an advertising company.

Little bird told me Michaels in the district may close (higher rent than the one on Irvine Blvd) and TJ Max is thinking of expanding into that location since they are next door.

I'm confused.  There's 2 Costco's in Tustin and 1 in Irvine that I know of, yet the context of the statement is that there is 1 in Tustin and multiple in Irvine.

Very true, I would think they are referring to the Costco at The District, always seems the most crowded at least when I go.

Went to sandwich society for the first time today. Very tasty. Their website said they were opening one in Tustin, which peaked my interest so I asked where. It?s going to be at the Mess Hall Market over at the new office building on the corner of red hill and barranca (Flight at Tustin Legacy)

Here is a list of the vendors.

Looks pretty good. They said the market is looking to open around mid February.

Well it's been almost a year and we still don't have a Curry House! Walnut Village is undergoing an extensive facelift but I don't think Curry House will ever come back. The old restrauant space turned into Bank of Hope. The remaining mall construction space (next to Stacks) will turn into 1) The Little Onion Mexican Restaurant and 2) Blaze Pizza. I'm very disappointed in in TIC. We have a ton of Mexican and pizza restaurants in Irvine, where is my Curry House?  :'(

Update to Curry House- The sign on the door reads :

Dear Curry House Irvine Customers,

Due to ongoing renovation of the Walnut Village Center, Curry House will be relocated to the central area of the plaza.  Unfortunately, the renovations on the new assigned space will not be completed until May of 2019.  We regret to inform you that until that time, we must vacate our current space.  Our last day of business will be Wednesday, June 27, 2018.

We'd like to sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause.  And while we hope that you will have a chance to visit our other restaurant locations during this time, we want to thank you for your continued patronage at our Irvine restaurant.  We hope you enjoyed our restaurant as much as we enjoyed serving you, and hope to see you again at our new location in the near future.

This has been sent to those who are registered with Irvine store's emailing list.  Please stay subscribed so we can keep you updated on our reopening situation.

Sincerely,

Curry House Corporate Office

I thought it was ok.  Bronx has better sandwiches in my opinion but they are heavy.

Dickies BBQ looks like it finally closed.

Also found out from NextDoor that both Champagnes in the Woodbridge center and Cookie Connection at the Crossroads have closed.

I want to get over to the Flight Mess Hall but all those places are so expensive (reviews on Yelp complain about that)... supposedly same management as Trade Food Hall off of Michelson.

I saw Breakfast Republic by UCI opened, anyone try it yet?

Nextdoor is so useful for this stuff.

Looks like Square One Pizza finally closed. I've only been there a few times a few years ago. We used to go to Pasta Pomodoro which it replaced. I think it's hard to compete with the BYO pizza places unless you add full sportsbar type amenities (beers, TVs etc).

Also, a friend told me that Coffee Bean over near Harvard closed and is going to be replaced by Poached Neighborhood Kitchen, another breakfast/brunch place:
https://www.poachedkitchen.com/

Went to Flight Mess Hall yesterday. Had Sandwich Society... very expensive but pretty good. I want to try the fried chicken at Fowl Play and the Mexican food place (qwerty?).

Why did Coffee Bean closed? (Cofee Bean just biught by JollleeB)

Not sure. I don't think that location got enough traffic.

Probably typical Irvine Company cutting bigger chain tenants for more interesting ones. There is already a bagel place (Einstein Bros) and a donut shop (Primo, used to be Poquet) in that center so maybe too much overlap?

So when you look at these breakfast places, you wonder how the hell is it always so packed:
Snooze
Flappy Jacks
Original pancake house.

So at least in Orange County, there seems to be a lack of breakfast restaurants.

Out of the 3 above I like flappy jacks the most.

What about Stacks?

I think a breakfast place has to have a little fru-fru or flair to it... or else the 2 IHOPs in Irvine would not have closed (although they always seemed to be crowded in the mornings).

TIC give me back my IHOP. My kids loved that place. You can keep your Cha Cha Kitchen.

The Mexican food and burger place are both very tasty. Would highly recommend
