Taiwan President Tsai Ingwen visited 85c on her stop over in LA last week. Enraged mainland China netizens threaten boycott of 85c. 85c immediately bows down before mainland Chinese, apologizes for letting Tsai visit, and reassures customers in mainland China that Taiwan is a province of mainland China.

No real surprise there. Even tho 85c is a taiwanese business and still has the most stores in Taiwan, 85c generates 64% of their revenue from China. (only 16% in Taiwan) Even US is a bigger market for 85c than Taiwan.

85C is a business that was built in TW, but the owner opted to incorporate in Cayman islands to dodge TW taxes.

See:

While the joe average consumer in TW has to pay strict import duties (taxes) on orders from Amazon/abroad valued over NT 3,000, and elderly Ah-Ma is working late into the evening cleaning tables and paying her share of the taxes, Mr Wu, the owner of 85C, is happily enjoying a 50% tax cut (from 40% to 20%) on stock options from his company with over NT 2.1 billion in net profits.

Mainlanders and MAGA supporters have something in common, I suppose.

Orchard Supply Hardware is closing by year end. Announcement today from parent company Lowes.

Total liquidation will happen and the parent company Lowes will absorbs as many of the employees as it can.

I am not surprise, I like the Alton and Jeffrey Orchard location. Things are always neatly stack and store seem lack foot traffic each and every time I go there. Customer service is great, maybe because they are always not having enough customers.

I think Pizza Press in Woodbridge opened. Haven't been yet so I can't confirm but Yelp reviews indicate they opened a week or so ago.

I tried the one in South Coast Metro and I thought it was pretty good but the one in Tustin Legacy (qwerpizza!) wasn't as good as I remembered.

It's interesting that the reviews say they are slow because the one thing I remember is unlike Blaze, Pieology and Mod, they don't use a pizza oven where someone has to work it... they just use a conveyor belt type oven where they put the pizza in one side and it comes out the other... so less labor than the others.

had been in the area over the weekend and there was a long line out the front waiting their turn, felt like Diamond Jamboree.

I think the hello kitty thing will do quite well. I think I saw adult beverages being served??  They have that bow room with tea service. Sounds like a good spot for birthdays parties, etc.

Pizza press did open.
