I used to vote Republican, my all time favorite is Bush senior -  a man who steered the world through collapse of the soviet empire, the most significant event since WWII.

Seeing the spineless GOP Senate and House roll over for Trump and how far the party is now beholden to the foaming-at-the-mouth rabid base , has repulsed and turned me off this party for good.  For the same reason I find Mike Pence disgusting as he is just an enabler for Trump.

Dems just need to present someone decent and centrist and who can put up a good fight for the next election and they will find willing voters in the middle who can swing this back for them.  Think of Bill Clinton types, not Elizabeth Warren.  I really don't see third party  as an option that can viably come together in the next four years despite what Evan McMillan thinks.
Yes, the Dems need another Bill Clinton.  Not because Bill was centrist, but because Bill was so damn shrewd and charismatic.  Centrism is clearly out of fashion now (eg popularity of Bernie and unpopularity of Jeb).  I've always wondered why Hillary ran such a lame campaign when she is married to The Master. My only explanation is she is so arrogant she wouldn't take any advice from Bill and instead relied on her wooden incompetent advisors.

Bernie Sanders was not treated nice by the DNC. There was an article the Bill Clinton tried to tell Hillary and the campaign staff to focus on creating jobs and middle America. That didn't happen.

Nancy Pelosi was realected to be the Democratic House leader. I don't think Nancy P. is centrist. Which means same as last year approach.

Don't get me started on Ellison, the person running for the current DNC chair.

The "perfect" candidate for the Left, would be a young fit (late 40s) handsome white guy from the South or the Rust Belt, who "gets" guns, NASCAR, and Jesus, but holds undergrad and grad degrees from prestigious Northeast or West schools, is from a humble blue collar/middle class family, who speaks well empathetically using logic and reason and avoiding hyperbole.

His platform doesn't even need to be too center-left. He could be a standard 2017 Democrat, and still do very well nationally in a Presidential race against Trump or any other standard Republican.

Voters care about some issues, but don't understand most of them. That's why his policy positions aren't too impactful in this context.

Yeah , I wish they would have retired Nancy Pelosi by now , she is the symbol of what all is wrong with the Democratic Party.  I do think Tom Perez has a decent shot at DNC chair , he does seem a bit more focused on jobs etc than the fantasy wing of the party.  Whatever the fantasy wing ultimately wants, there are enough biz connections into the party (think Buffet, Gates, etc) that I don't think actual policies match the rhetoric.

Hillary's arrogance was a factor , I agree on that.  Although I have always felt that Dems bring a knife to a gunfight.  By that I don't mean being as vulgar and ugly as Trump, but letting loose and injecting humor and quick reaction (which again, Bill Clinton was a master of) as opposed to relying on 29 point policy prescriptions.

Maybe Greg Popovich ?  Mark Cuban  ?  Who knows

Bill had that folksy charm that resonated with average Americans. I've heard so many people say they hated Bill's politics but would love to have a beer with him at a backyard bbq. Unlike typical liberals, Bill never talked down to people he disagreed with by disparaging their intelligence, education, sophistication, social status, wealth, and mental fitness, which is the way liberals typically start any discussion. Bill was able to very effectively disarm his opponents by making them feel he was one of them.

Popovich is too smart to do that.

it's not fake news anymore. It is very fake news!

BELIEVE ME (and only me)!

Sorry we don't believe you.

He is such an idiot I cannot believe this country voted for this buffoon  ::)
Can't we just kidnap Justin Trudeau and send Trump to Canada? That Canadian prime minister is so handsome, eloquent and trust worthy. Complete opposite of who we have to face everyday. Do we really have another 4 more years of this bullshit? :(

Sadly , as long as he has that 38-40% locked down , we may be in for 8 years of this . that 40% packs a lot of punch.

(stereotype warning ahead) that base is made up heavily of rural seniors (more generally 55+) that are the highest  voting % among all age groups and are concentrated in states like Florida and in the midwest.  they  get their news primarily from fox (hannity is their favorite) and from Facebook from like minded circles.

I expect jeff sessions (new AG)  to work extra hard to make voting as difficult as possible for younger voters in metro and urban areas.  I hope I am wrong.

older voters are also why I think  Newport Beach was an island of red in a sea of blue last November

Maybe he'll be impeached.

Trump, and his apologists, don't believe in facts, logic, and reason, which is why they attack everyone personally.

Personal attack against Trump supporters. Can't you have a discussion without the attacks???

Where are the sources to back up your claims? Until then, you have mastered the Fake News!

Sources ?  Exit poll data and voting maps by district
http://www.latimes.com/projects/la-pol-ca-california-neighborhood-election-results/

Again , facts you don't like  does NOT equal fake news .

Why don't you try the fake news approach at your work and see how far that takes you in your career :)
