No one objectively would say that owning an iphone represents wealth.  It's way too common.

you can say the exact same thing about LV, they are everywhere. they may be priced as a luxury good but it is within many peoples reach. LV does not represent wealth either, its way to common

Hmmm...most people are carrying knockoffs...not the real stuff.

maybe i wasn't clear.  my comment was based on this statement from qwerty: "just like to the hermes owner an LV is not a status symbol, but the LV owner sure thinks that LV bag as a status symbol."  I'm basically saying that statement is not necessarily true and I pointed out a place like Irvine where it's not.

i dont think pointing out irvine makes my statement untrue. it would apply anywhere.

ok maybe i'm the only one.  I'm an LV bag owner and I definitely don't view it as a status symbol.

if you dont mind me asking, why did you buy an LV bag then? Most LVs are kind of ugly, my wife has some, i think they are ugly. she has chanel and guccis that i think look much nicer/classier

Probably...LV purses are well made but the markup comes from the brand itself.  Take the logo off, it's 30% of the retail price.  Take the Apple branding of an iphone...it's still about the same price.

they (mainly the monogram/damier) can take a beating in the rain!  i use to live in an urban environment where you had to take public transpo everywhere.  now they're great if you have kids.  they hold up well to stains.

You are definitely the outlier...most women I know baby their LV purses.

For durability, Coach and Dooney & Burke hold up much better and are better designed.  Most LV bags are poorly designed (IMO) for everyday use.

That's not necessarily true...I think babying something that costs you $1000-$2000 fairly reasonable.

nope - you buy shit to use it. the only reason you care about extending the life is if you cant afford it. its like homer's shoes, damn things cost $1,000, do you think he babies his shoes? nope, he uses them daily, gets piss on them in the bathroom, scuffs the back of the shoes from driving the car, etc.

Okay...unless you are multimillionaire, you are not scuffing up $1,000 anything.  Maybe you live on an economic level completely higher than me but I find it extremely difficult to believe that people treat LV bags as if they are nothing.  People don't treat Rolexes like they're Casioes.

And most people don't buy luxury goods to use them...at least not on an everyday basis.

What do you mean by baby?  Most girls probably treat their new LV bag nicely for the first few weeks/months, then after awhile it's old news.  They may keep using it or rotate it out for later use.  Then they'll have their eye on a new bag... maybe another LV... maybe not.

And don't most people buy luxury cars and use them daily?

No.  Most women have a few luxury bags that they carry for special occasions and cheaper bags they carry on a daily basis.  Those cheaper bags could still be fairly expensive but not LV level.

Most people buy luxury cars and use them daily because most people don't have more than 1 car per person in their household.  Women can many purses that they rotate and use.

The women who buy the luxury purse to use on a special occasion can't afford them!!! That's why they only use the in occasion. Also, people who can afford LVs get them on a regular basis as they need to have the latest and greatest.

My wife would never be caught dead with a coach or Dooney and Burke bag. Why? Because she can afford to use high end bags on a daily basis

Damn man, c'mon IC, I know deep down you agree with me. This is just the lawyer in u being argumentative right?

I guess you have a different definition of afford than me.  I would think that for the bulk of the population, even those in Irvine, people are not buying $1000 bags on a regular basis.
