So who is going to be our judge? Hey Trojanman.. MR. MANIA .. we need you as our judge... So who is the winner??

That seems like a silly request.  The point is that your perception of Korean restaurants is likely outdated...many of the restaurants I have listed opened in the past few years so you have not caught up.  Food is mostly subjective so it doesn't really matter.

Also...your use of population as a restriction seem weird.  One of the reasons why it is good to live in a urban/populated are is because it offers you choices.    It takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to Fullerton...about the same amount of time between John's Creek and Alpharetta.

Le Mekong is a nicer Vietnamese restaurant in Johns Creek. Food is excellent.

Is Honey Pig good? They have one in IRVINE. :)

I think I figured out your taste IHO, I would vote a thumbs down for Honey Pig.  Too much crap on the grill, I don't want meat to taste like bean sprouts!

Baby:

I have no doubt that you are enjoying your time in Georgia but it is really hard to compare with the variety and quality of food you have in LA/OC.

Chinese:  SVG is clearly the best but even in Irvine, the quality of Chinese food has gone way up.  Capital Seafood, SW, Tasty Noodle, Tasty House, 85 degrees are all excellent.  Only thing missing is a HK cafe place.

Korean:  Already discussed

Japanese:  The food court at Murakai is quite good, Taiko is always popular, Honda-ya is in Tustin, Makino is also good.

Vietnamese:  A little weak but serviceable.  Plenty of decent pho places and GG is about 10 minutes away.

I would say that Thai food is hard to get in Irvine but Thai food is hard to get in many place.  There are also some excellent Thai food places in GG.

The new Vietnamese place off of Irvine and Culver isn't too bad.  I can't recall the name because it's more than Pho with some ## following.

The portions are pretty good sized.  I'd suggest trying it out to see if it suits you.  I, too, realized there isn't much in terms of Vietnamese around here.  I was happy to see Tustin get a THH sandwiches!

Irvine food has become a bit better with places like MJ Cafe and Tasty Garden opening up.

So there is more than 100,000 Asians living in Irvine, 43% of the city and there is not a lot of selection for Vietnamese, Thai, and 24 hour Asian restaurants? I don't get it. Why is that? Does the city limit how many Asian restaurants are allowed?

100,000 is the entire population of Johns Creek, Suwanee, and Duluth combined and we have a lot of nice Vietnamese and Thai restaurants to choose from. I am not talking about hole in wall places you find in Garden Grove. We have a handful of 24 hour restaurants, Asian Fusion Bars, cafes, but most of them are located in K-Town.

How many square miles does that 100,000 cover?

How long does it take to go from JC to Suwanee or Duluth? I hear traffic in ATL is pretty bad.

Like IC said, you can get from Irvine to GG pretty quickly for Vietnamese food.

There are quite a few Vietnamese places in Tustin actually... and Lake Forest. There are 6 or 7 that I can name in Irvine.

For 24-hour Asian, Diamond Jamboree has a few.

There are plenty of choices for ethnic food...it's a question of quality.  The biggest problem is that excellent ethic food is not far away.  Good thai and Vietnamese in GG, Korean food in LA and Fullerton, Chinese food in SVG, Indian food in Buena Park/Cerritos, and on and on.  A lot of people have gotten used to that level of food that things in Irvine are not nearly as good.  That's changing because a lot of the businesses are realizing what a gold mine Irvine can be.  It's not a surprise that 85 degrees opened in Irvine.  That's why I challenged your assertion regarding Korean food in Irvine, a lot of new restaurants and changes in the past 2 to 3 years.

Right now, there are 2 99 Ranches, 4 Korean markets, 2 Persian markets, a Japanese market, and Korean/International market in the Irvine/Tustin area.  The number of ethnic restaurants in Irvine has increased significantly in the past 2-3 years and competition is fierce.  That's a good thing for consumers.

There is also the issue with TIC and high rents in Irvine.  Most of the ethnic restaurants are in non-TIC malls/center or in Tustin.  TIC is slowly changing but it is very reluctant to bring in mom and pop places (where the best food is from).  Also, being in Irvine, you need to have sufficient capital and manpower to maintain a proper image rather than just food.

As for 24 hour restaurants...there are very few choices in Irvine because that's how TIC likes it.  Even Starbucks and IHOP closes at 10 p.m.  I have to say that as a parent of a small child, I'm not eating past 10 p.m.

yes I am jealous of some one who could not make it in Irvine, uprooted his family to HotAtlanta,  blatantly solicits his business in an internet forum that is about Irvine and Orange County real estate, thousands of miles from that shit hole in Georgia. Start your own Talk Johns Creak website and do whatever you want there. who cares about the Asian restaurants in Johns Creek. 99% of visitors in Talk Irvine will not even visit them in their lifetime

Give Panda/BI a break. He used to post quite a bit on the IHB forums before he moved to JC. Let's show some TI hospitality and welcome an old poster back.

Irvine Commuter ,

Today we have 5 HMart Super markets, 2 Assi Plazas, 1 Korean/International Farmer's market (Nam Dae Mun), MegaMart took over the entire 2 stories of what used to be JC Penny location in Gwinnet Place Mall, and 2 Chinese Super Markets.

As far as the top 10 Korean restaurants in Atlanta goes. The ranking below by yelp is a pretty accurate ranking among the best Korean restaurants in Atlanta.

As I mentioned before, Jang Su Jang is the best Korean restaurant here.

Checked out Dan Moo Ji for the first time today for lunch today. Awesome place. :)
