It's the simple things in life... I should be able to post how I use these two products very soon...

I'm still looking around, for some recommendations... I haven't hit the buy button yet, but they seem inexpensive enough...

here are some more info on NFC chips... demo recently...

\

The point is, when I touch the phone to one of these tags, it will automatically change certain settings on the phone; like ringer, brightness, play a certain play-list, have certain app open...

I can put a tag in the car, when I walk into the door at work or home... might be cool to play around with...

how cool... this used to take a PC, Photoshop, and at least 2-hours of editing...

Those NFC/RFID chips look interesting.  That Scalado Remove software looks great.  I wonder if you can use that on images taken with DSLR cameras.

Go ahead... safe for work or the pot...

Huge news out this morning regarding Jelly Bean... from the three sources; we can compile these rumors:
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-50-jellybean-2012-better-optimized-tablets-you-dont-say
http://phandroid.com/2012/02/16/android-5-0-jelly-bean-could-launch-as-early-as-this-summer-rumor/

http://www.bgr.com/2012/02/16/android-5-0-jelly-bean-could-push-fragmentation-to-new-heights/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheBoyGeniusReport+%28BGR+%7C+Boy+Genius+Report%29

jelly-bean.jpg

Launch in the second quarter. We dunno about "launch," but, yeah. Google IO is June 27-29. June is in the second quarter. And it's more than likely we'll get details on the next version of Android there. But "launch"? Nah.

Further optimized for tablets. We certainly hope otherwise, what's the point? Jelly Bean (or whatever it's called) probably will be further optimized for smartphones, too. Maybe even Google TV. Now will the UI undergo some major reconstruction for tablets? That's entirely possible, and it's not a bad idea at all.

Integrating Chrome for "dual-operating system designs": Uh, OK. The idea, apparently, is to offer manufacturers the option of having an Android/Windows 8 system, without having to shut down. Hey, why not. BlackBerry's already doing that with its PlayBook tablet. But somehow we don't think adding a full second operating system and ecosystem is going to make choosing a tablet any simpler for consumers.

Google looking to get back into the netbook/notebook market with Jelly Bean: Sure. Why not. Android netbooks aren't new -- you'll recall our look at the HP Compaq Airlife 100 at Mobile World Congress in 2010. And you have the likes of ASUS' excellent Transformer line of tablet/notebook hybrids. Question is, should this have any legs to is, what happens with Chromebooks?

Of course the news is shocking; like many of you, I was expecting an announcement towards the end of the year.  But the Dual-Boot thing with Windows 8 kinda makes sense.  I knew Win-8 would be a slight threat but I didn't think Google would react like this...

I knew Android & Chrome were on separate paths but I did toy with the thought of some merger down the line last year when Chrome came our with its own Apps & Store.. I don't know what else this means except that it looks like we will have another choice in what Android OS we like to have on today...

Looks like everyone is looking to Google I/O in June for the next update...

Wonder if it's true.  If so, IHO, you were right.  But still doesn't make sense to me.  Hardware vendors haven't even rolled out ICS in full force and a new OS is coming out?  Way to fragment Android even more.

Digitimes is known for wild speculation... I doubt version J will be out that early... if anything it will be announced this year but not rolled out until end of or later.

What I found funny was "optimized for tablets"... uh... that's what HoneyComb was for. ICS was for unifying the phone and tablet platform to reduce fragmentation and to better take advantage of hardware.

Jello or JellyBean could be the integration of Chrome (the Chrome browser is already out for ICS) or for all we know, J version may end up being a 4.x like previous jumps have been (instead of 5.0).

I don't really care if there are 5 flavors of Android out there at the same time; different OS for different devices; with people using it for different purposes... that is the way Android was intended, different levels of capabilities, limited to different devices applied to all sorts of tech all around us...

Instead of Fragmentation, think of it like this...

All are "Android Compatible" devices meaning they all run Android under the hood; sort of like using the same basic 4-5 Engines from this one Engine company Google...

Different car manufacturers, take the Engine, and build a totally unique car, vehicle, bike or plane around that engine technology... so people design different looking cars, with different interiors and styles and etc... to create in their own rights, unique creations of their own to market...

You can't compare one car or pit one car against the other because, again, different vehicles for different people and different purposes; you don't need that V8 engine in that sub-compact car, cause all it ever needed was just that 4-cylinder, version of Android.

IMG_20120216_125609.jpg

Apple being Apple just has one Engine that they built themselves, along with the same yearly model 4-seater car that fits a lot of people's lifestyle... but of course, not everyone...

You can spin how you want... but even Google recognizes it's a problem... which is why they are requiring some standardization on ICS.

The problem with differentiation is that it makes it hard for developers and for consumers in regards to app performance, UI familiarity and ecosystem expectations.

It's not something you can just ignore because it's a negative... it exists and can be problematic... especially when it comes to upgrade paths. How far behind are the phones with custom UIs compared to Nexus phones?

But then again... that's what Nexus is for... but... not many people understand that and Google isn't pushing the Nexus line on all carriers enough (really wasted opportunity if you ask me, Google has the ability to provide a uniform iPhone-like experience to a large number of consumers who prefer it and they aren't doing it). I would like to get a Nexus... but the newest one is only available on Verizon, the one before that, only on TMo and Spring... why?

Different versions of Android with various hardware skins on top (launchers) probably makes life that much more difficult for app developers.  I would think it makes it harder to develop their app so it runs on all hardware.  Don't get me wrong, I like Android and my next tablet will be an Android tablet.  But I see what makes iOS so popular to most people, including some of the issues holding Android back.

Since I'm looking for a 7" tablet... I'm actually tempted to get the Note... but then I would have to carry a Murse... and PatStar would be mad at me if I didn't carry an LV Murse... and LV Murses probably cost too much... then I wouldn't be able to make my house payments... and I would end up homeless... and RC's son would be staring at me expecting a life lesson.

So don't be a bad example to RC's son... don't get a Note.

I've got a pretty big presentation... later this afternoon, I've got to let go the Paper Notes as my Comfort Blanket and just go with the smartphone... hope the thing doesn't crash in the middle of the meeting...

Going over my spreadsheet numbers, slides, bullet points...  a bit nervous...

Got my direction, contact info, & names down; now, if I can take a picture of my clients without them really noticing, then that would be cool; let's see if I can just take CRM notes on the fly - you know those personal details that really matter to people; like how many kids they have and the name of their dog...

Also trying to track down a place I can pick up some cookies, or snacks, that should go well...

I saw the Galaxy Note demo phone at an AT&T kiosk over the weekend... I was considering it until I saw in person how massive it is. It's thin, but a 5.3" skin makes it totally unpocketable... even in my XXXL clothes.
